Central Universities are preparing to introduce a common counselling portal for CUET UG admissions in the upcoming academic year to streamline the admission process and allow students to apply to multiple institutions through a single portal.

New Delhi: The UGC has decided to introduce a common counselling system for admission to UG courses in central universities accepting the CUET UG scores.

It is anticipated that candidates will soon have a single CUET UG Admission portal to apply to multiple central universities instead of filling out separate forms for each university by the next academic year. The main goal behind this initiative is to streamline the admission process and make it easier for students to apply to several universities through a single portal.

As per the latest reports, it was stated by UGC chairperson, M Jagadesh Kumar, that they will look into the possibility of introducing common counselling for all central university undergraduate admissions.

He mentioned that such a system would offer a single window for admissions, enabling students to provide their choices on a unified portal rather than applying to different CUs separately. He also pointed out that this approach would help in avoiding the issue of unfilled seats.

The UGC chairperson mentioned that the common counselling system would bring several benefits. However, he also acknowledged that given the presence of numerous central universities with diverse programmes, the implementation of the process would require some time.

He further stated that once the system is launched, the admission process in the central universities will be much more streamlined, and it will be easier for students to apply.

The development of the portal for the common counselling system is currently underway, and the UGC will release further details in the near future. To ensure the effectiveness of the counselling procedure, a group comprising representatives from various central universities will oversee its implementation.

This year, CUET UG 2023 recorded an overall attendance of 74.4 percent. On July 15, NTA declared the CUET UG result 2023. The number of students appearing for the CUET UG 2023 exam was 19.2 lakh, which is 100 percent higher than the previous year's count of 9.6 lakh students.
