Why are IIM A, B, and C valued over FMS, Delhi when the difference between the fees are so high?

It is true that a person’s caliber can in no way be judged from the Business School that they have graduated from. In practice, however, things work very differently. The general assumption is that if a candidate has secured a top rank in one of the most challenging exams and studied one of the top curriculums in the country, then they are really good in their field. IIM A, B, and C have been around for a very long time and its graduates have carved a niche for themselves in the corporate world. Most companies in India and many abroad have IIM A, B, and C graduates in top positions. The alumni spread the goodwill of these institutions in silicon valley and other parts of the world, leading to international repute. These institutions are ‘brands’. An IIM A, B, and C brand opens numerous opportunities for you. Judging IIMs based on ROI solely is not wise. Most IIM graduates end up paying their loans in a period of 3 to 5 years. Also, keep in mind that salary does not remain constant, it keeps increasing each year. Even if you take a loan to fund your MBA, it will be worth it. If you get the opportunity to study at IIM A, B, or C you should grab it at the earliest.

Why is IIM Bangalore not rated as highly as IIM Calcutta? Why doesn't it have any notable alumni like IIM Ahmedabad and Calcutta? Is it worth the money?

In terms of NIRF 2023 Management Rankings, IIM Bangalore ranked higher than IIM Calcutta. Even in the FT Global rankings 2023 for MBA, IIM Bangalore ranked 52, whereas IIM Calcutta ranked 76. The alumni of IIM Bangalore are more into research and academia.IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta were open to private-sector jobs since their establishment. IIM Bangalore, on the other hand, was established to produce public sector managers. It was opened for private sector jobs in the late 1990s. IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta had a headstart there which is why they have a greater number of notable alumni in the private sector. Even then, IIM Bangalore does have a good number of alumni in the private sector. IIM Bangalore is an institution of global recognition and repute. It will offer you all the opportunities and necessary guidance to become successful in your career.

How would you rank the following business schools, ISB, IIM A, B, C, L, XLRI, FMS, and SPJIMR?

All the aforementioned colleges are among the best B Schools in India so the choice between them depends on your preference and future prospects. You need to determine what exactly you want from the program and where your career currently is. In general, ISB is for people who have better industry experience, good leadership skills and decent academics. The other B Schools focus more on excellent academics throughout your career. The ranking of these institutes in my opinion is ISB, IIM-A, B, C>IIM-L, FMS, XLRI,>SPJIMR The above preference order is based on a number of factors like career progression, college market value perception, quality of faculty, quality of students, academic learning, quality of recruiters and infrastructure.

Which is the best among IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta for finance?

IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Calcutta, all three are good choices for Finance and Consulting roles. If you get a single convert from among the three, you should grab the opportunity at the earliest. If you have more than one convert, you should choose the institution that best suits you. You can decide based on location and other such factors. All three are at par for finance. Even IIM Lucknow is doing well and has a strong alumni base now. Thus, you can go for any of the three IIMs for finance as all are top-ranked institutions.

Summer internships are offered in the college by companies like McKinsey and co. Bain and co. TCS and many more. Summer internships are for 3 months with an average stipend of 2 lakhs per month and the highest goes to 3.5 lakhs. Some pre-placement offers are also given to students and overall the exposure to the corporate world is world-class.

The placement process starts from the time we join the campus. It is a cluster cohort system, with an aim of right fit for every student.. For first-year students after completion of Term 1, a Summer internship takes place, and for second-year placement start after 5th term. Many companies visit campus offering various profiles in Finance, consulting, marketing, IT, product management, real estate, consumer goods, and pharmaceuticals. 190 recruiters offered 220 offers during the last season. However, it is confidential to share the name of the companies. Highest package was Rs. 1.12 CTC, an average of Rs. 36.2 LPA in India. International offers had the highest package of $150,297. 100% of opted students got placed in the last season. Best MBA college in india

The companies that come for recruitment keep changing year on year as per their recruiting needs, however, rest assured, if you have a good history of performance and you're hard-working you're likely to get placed where you like, be it an MNC or a booming start-up. Some of the regular recruiters were Reckitt Benckiser, Monsanto, Syngenta, Pepsico, Godrej, Mahindra, ConAgra, Nestle, etc. The placement process during summers was (naturally) a bit less stressful. Having said that summers were considered a great opportunity as companies generally offer PPO (pre-placement offers) or PPI (pre-placement interviews) to their respective interns based on their performance during the internship. If you happen to have this PPO/PPI, you have a chance at being placed directly in these companies without having to take part in the gruesome final placements.
