Course Curriculum Overview
I think everything according to scope of every course will have a significant impact on your building of your thought process and how to direct your mind towards research or at least ignite your thinking.
Fees and Financial Aid
Total estimated fee (GEN/OBC/EWS/KM)- 4,76,000 SC/ST available 100% scholarship on tution fee. Total estimated fee (SC/ST/PD)- 1,08,000 Tution fee varies a bit each semester - 37,000(roughly) Registration fees - 200 (per sem) At the time of freezing your seat you have to pay 37,000 (as of 2024) Hostel charges - 2000 (per semester) Mess establishment charges - 5200 (I think it's one time payment) Lab, computer, and other facilities calculates roughly around 4000 (per sem)
Campus Life
Campus Life is actually crazy, like i heard about IITs that they have restricted timings for hostel, but here you are not in such constraint. You can play anytime in the ground even at nights (except SAC building). SAC building is a place where you have dedicated rooms for activities such as music, drama, dance, chess, carrom, badminton, kabaddi, gym etc. Socially you will most probably interact with Bengalis most of the time (obviously) and some amount of South Indian people.overall the life is chill and supportive. You get well maintained hostels, LHC (with AC), research complex, etc Club are not pretty active in comparison to other colleges.
Hostel Facilities
This course have residential facilities, you have to stay in hostels only for 5 years. Mess is probably the best point our college have, the food is great as compared to other colleges. Hostels are affordable, you have to pay somewhat 42k over 5 years, I think it's manageable.
Admission
I wanted to opt computational mathematics at ony of the teir-1 engineering college but I couldn't make it, then researched over the field of mathematics and statistics and got the department of mathematics and statistics of IISER Kolkata which had remarkable impacts. So I decided to come across here. Admission process is simple, you have to write an exam called IAT( IISER aptitude test) where they ask you questions from Physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics. Then you get your rank and according to that your are alloted the college by the councelling IISER is completely research based institute, don't expect any placement from this college.
Faculty
In first year you have a batch of roughly 240 students and they have class at the same time in same hall so ratio is not so good initially. But for further semesters there are somewhat 1 facility over 40-50 students. There are many faculty members for eg: Prof. Somnath Basu, Prof. Gaurav Shukla, Prof. Golam, Prof. Soumya Bhattacharya, etc which are absolutely finest at their jobs. I haven't met such professor whom I dislike.
Night Life
No hostel timings, you are allowed to roam around whenever you want. There is inter gender visit allowed for restricted timings. Nightlife is the craziest thing in our campus, there are pretty good spots for everyperson (you know what I mean) You have great mess food, along with an open air canteen, some stalls in RC and LHC.
