Remarks

IISER Kolkata is a place to motivate the researcher. I loves sciemce and I want to discover new things in my life. IISER Kolkata's extraordinary faculties and infrastructure were key factors in choosing IISER Kolkata.

Course Curriculum Overview

Faculty in IISER-K are top notch. A lot of them are pioneers in their field. The teaching methods vary with subjects. Teachers may use blackboards or slides as required. The course curriculum is research-oriented and motivates one to take up research. In the final year of BS-MS, there is minimal coursework, and each student focuses on a research project under the supervision of a faculty.

Placement Experience

4

The main aim of IISER is to promote research in basic sciences, and as such, most of the students opt for higher education like PhD and others. After the completion of their BS-MS degree, they would eventually strive to join academia or a research institute to carry out high-quality research.

College Events

5

Being far from the city, life can be a bit monotonous here. IISER-K hosts a wide range of activities from musical events to inter-batch sports competitions, art competitions, writing competitions etc. Many cultural festivals of different parts of India are celebrated by the student community. These include Onam, Saraswati Puja, Bihu, Ganesh Chaturthi, Utkal Divas etc. The main aim of celebrating these festivals is to bring the community together.

Campus Life

Facilities in IISER-K are mostly good. Hostels are top notch with twin-sharing for BS-MS and single-sharing rooms for PhD and IPhD students. Owing to the space crunch, some of the twin-sharing rooms are made triple-sharing and the single rooms to twin-sharing. This misery falls on the first and second-year students. However, many more hostels will come up in the future, and this issue is likely to get resolved. Rooms have good Wi-Fi connectivity. There are washing machines on almost every floor and geysers in the bathrooms.

Hostel Facilities

Rooms have good Wi-Fi connectivity. There are washing machines on almost every floor and geysers in the bathrooms. There is a laundry shop in the hostel basement. IISER-K has a student-run mess which is really good. It serves one of the best foods among all universities in India.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I've always found economics to be really interesting and thats why I choose to persue it. I wanted to dive deep into the actual concepts and workings of the economy and understand how the world works from an economist's point of view. Sadly the curriculam doesnt bridge the gap between theory and real life. It focuses heavily on textbook and not how the world works.

Completely relevant. As the college is autonomous it has its own syllabus. Which matches with the net gate jam exam syllabus. When someone came our college for seminar they strange that we know this much. Exam are quite difficult in 2 months interval.

The curriculum for the Physical and Inorganic chemistry are upto the mark and I felt improvement in teaching style and curriculum is required for Organic Chemistry part. The difficulty of Internal examination can be improved a bit.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would say the course is good but you have to opt for masters and PhD to get a good placement. After bsc there's not any placement. The curriculum was basically practical and theoretical based. But I think it should be more practical so that we can get a job after doing bsc. The teaching method was good I didn't have any problem with that. As it was under Calcutta University so the exam questions were too difficult, sometimes it came out of our syllabus , i think they should change this a little bit .

Course Curriculum Overview:

The syllabus for BSc. Microbiology Hons. was in line with my interests. Few topics like virology, bacteriology, and diversity of the microbial workd are what drew my attention to pick this course. Although there are some portions which one would consider "boring", but I believe every subject has its interesting as well as boring portions. It's seems fair to judge a subject by seeing if the "boring" portions outweigh the "interesting" parts or not.

Course Curriculum Overview:

In terms of relevance and comprehensiveness of the course curriculum, my rating is solid 4.1 out of 5. Because it offers a variety of courses like compulsory english, environmental science, constitution values of India, Inter Disciplinary Courses where one can opt for a variety of subjects which change along with the course proceeds or semester changes. Not only that two major papers and one minor paper are present throughout the semester. As a student we should be well aware of our country and its law as well as how we can keep our environment healthy followed by sustainable development.
