The Overall life and Experience at BITS Pilani Goa Campus

Dislikes

  • The fees is a bit high which makes it unaffordable to some groups of people
  • No AC in hostels except common room so some people get a bit uncomfortable in the hostels

Course Curriculum Overview :

1. The curriculum helped me to understand what I want to pursue in the future which made me choose this course which was in my understanding. 2. The curriculum and faculty make you ready for any academic challenge in the future which is the best part. The placement unit also playes a crucial role in this. 3. The exams start after a few weeks on campus and then are continued till compres The most common order is -> quizzes - midsems - quizzes - compres(there might be some assignments in between) Difficulty- quizzes < midsems < compres

Internships Opportunities :

There are three internship opportunities provided by the college namely PS1, SIP and PS2 where PS1 is compulsory for all students. PS1 is done during your second year summer break is a 5 credit course(unpaid). SIP is program where students give exams and interviews and then work in the summer internship (paid). PS2 is another intership you do in 4th year which is paid but you have an option to go for a thesis that sem(20 credits). Projects are given through professors working on their own projects where you have to work under a professor's mentorship.

Placement Experience :

The students become eligible from 4th year to sit for placements(except if you get an SIP and a PPO after that). Every company in India which hires students from colleges come to this college except for mass recruiters which the placement unit avoids to bring. The number of offers made last year was around a 1500. The highest package was 80LPA and the average being 24LPA The percentage of students getting placed is around 90% because a lot of students go for further studies I plan to work for 3-4 years to gain some experience and then go for a MBA afterwards in Germany

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Semester wise tuition fees - 250000 Yearwise - 500000 Hostel fee per semester - 24000 Mess fees - 12000 Electricity and miscellaneous - 12000 Complete course fees - 2300000(including PS1 fees) Scholarships - (everything on tuition fees and semester based) 1. Merit based - Top 1% -> 100% Top 2% -> 40% 2. Merit Cum Need based - Top 3% -> 80% Top 6% -> 40% Top 12% -> 25% Top 6% -> 15%

Campus Life :

So there are mainly three fests in BITS Goa namely WAVES, QUARK and SPREE which are the cultural, technical and sports fests. Waves is held in November, Quark in Feb and Spree in March. Every book related to the course is present in the library along with different journals, novels and comics. Every classroom has AC with a blackboard and projector system which is recored during lectures. The is a designated building called SAC which has different types of indoor sports and games along with the gym and all the outdoor playgrounds are built around that for convenience. The are different departments and clubs ranging from technical to cultural. The departments manage the complete fests which are completely student run whereas clubs are a place where students work together a common interest. Clubs like Dance, Fashion club, Music, plus different technical clubs.

Hostel Facilities :

The rooms are very basic with a cupboard, white board, bed and study table. Common rooms has AC. Mess has three meals a day which is a pretty decent quality compared to other colleges. The menu is different for every day and it gets updated according to student demand and availability. You just need to pay the hostel fee and choose your room through a portal based on first come first serve basis

Admission :

1. I qualified for IPMAT which gave an opportunity to go to IIM Rohtak but I choose BITS because of a personal bias towards engineering and Innovation. Also I wanted to explore more opportunities which I didn't know of which BITS had to offer rather than just going for Finance. 2. The admission process is based on a exam called BITSAT ONLY. Here cutoffs are based on the marks you scored without any type of percentile system. So you are only responsible for if you get admission or not. The lowest cutoff in my year was 170 to get admission in BITS Goa.

Faculty :

1. The faculty is very approachable to students even after class and then chamber hours given to students 2. Every faculty teaches around a 100 students in one class on average 3. Abhijeet Pethe sir is one of my favourite in the electronics department because he has high own way of filling the gap between faculty and students 4. The exam sytem is based on relative grading system which involves quizzes, assignments, midsems and Compres where midsems and compres hold the most weightage. Quizzes are relatively easier than midsems and compres because of reduced syllabus 5. All the courses are made based on the lastest industry demand which keeps the students upto date

Placement Experience:

The placements are decent but not this year, due to recession it's tougher, I don't plan on getting a job immediately after college, I think I'll go for mastets and then get a job after that. It'll be better post masters.

Admission:

I Cleared JEE mains based on st category. You need to apply for the college online The admission starts in July. This course has a large number of jobs and is becoming more important in future. The institute is easier to access from my house, it is also a national level college.

Placement Experience:

The college is newly formed hence the companies that visit the campus is less and those who visited are very average companies.
