- Himachal is just few hours from the hostels so we used to enjoy our weekend in Himachal
- Supportive faculties, like there are some faculties which are really supportive and will help you in any situation
Dislikes
- Low quality transportation- The buses hired for transporation doesnt have AC, they are very poor standard buses.
- The distance between College Campus and Hostel is 12km. So travelling is big issue. Poor Campus Infrastructure
Course Curriculum Overview :
The batch size was 284 and the Girls number was around 60. The strength of every course is of 60. The students in my batch were coming from different parts of the country and also they diverse educational background so overall the batch was of mix peoples. As the batch was very diverse so we got learning and networking opportunities. There is Marks for Class Participation as well which ranges from 10% - 15% depending on the faculty. Most of the students used to attend classes just for the attendance,
Internships Opportunities :
Sumer Internship Process starts from August, You can sit in for the SIP. The highest stipend for SIP ranges from Rs.1 to 1.20 Lakhs and lowest is as much as Rs.10,000. More than 150 Companies including startups visit the campus. There were few companies which hired students for unpaid internship. So the banks such as ICIC, Kotak hires in bulk for internship as well as final placement. The Monthly stipend ranges from 60 to 80 thousand. Around 20-30 % People got PPO from their summer internship. So once you got the PPO you can only sit for dream companies Process, these criteria's are set by the Placement Committee and Chairperson of Placecom. Internship scenario is mostly same for every course except HR. Mostly student can sit for any company until and unless company specifies about any particular course.
Placement Experience :
Final Placement also starts from August along with the Summer internships, Usually till February Most of the students get placed, but during our time placements was bit challenging due to market conditions. everyone does not get placed some opt out and those who did not get placed have to search by their own. Few students from my batch are still yet to be placed, Placements committee is bringing companies but those companies are not good or paying much lesser. In my opinion Placement Process should be done by Management or any Agency, Students should not be involved in the Placements role. When students are involved for placements and they have been provided with so much control and power they misuses it. The Placement Committee run by students does not work with transparency lot of misuse of power and control is being done by those students.
Fees and Financial Aid :
The MBA Program is divided into 6 Terms for the 2 years. Term wise Tuition fee :Rs 267000 Term wise Mess fee : Rs 25000 Deposit : 25000 So, the total fee I paid was around Rs 18 Lakhs including the Tuition, Hostel and Mess. - There is a Dean's Scholarship for the selected top students. Around 7-8 students from the batch receives the scholarship the amount of the scholarship is equal to the tuition fee of the year
Campus Life :
The infrastructure was very poor as classes used to happen in a government polytechnic college. As new campus was not ready yet, they have taken a society on a lease. The accommodation in these societies was good but to attend classes we have to travel for around 40Mins one way. The distance between the academic building and the hostel is 12 kms, so lot of time gets wasted in travelling although they provided buses for transportation but these buses are of very low quality. There were no AC in Hostels as well as in Buses, so during the summer season it is very difficult to manage. Amritsar has very extreme weather conditions, The temperature is very high and travelling in that heat to attend classes that too with a Non AC bus was very Challenging. Personal vehicles were allowed in the hostel. There is one Medical room, where doctor visits everyday. The overall campus life was good, but it would have been much better if they had shifted us to new campus. Talking about social aspects every festival was celebrated with very much enthusiasm. Many cultural events, activities take place through out the year. Cultural committee plays a vital role. So nightlife was good, students used roam on the pathways late in the night, there is only one Shop in the Hostel Premises. It is open till midnight. Roaming Outside the hostel premises in the night is not safe, as no street lights there and thefts incidents had happened. The Major fest is Arunya which happens once in a year, many celebrities such as Ankit Tiwari, Kumar Varun performs during the fest. There are Many Clubs and Committees students joins these according to their area of interest. Placement Committee and Industry Interaction Committee is Most important in terms of value addition, As you get a chance to interact with various industries and you have to get them on to the campus so lot of learning and networking chance for students. Student exchange program is also available with kedge university in France. right now this is the only university available for the student exchange program
Hostel Facilities :
Boys and Girls are separate but no restrictions on boys entering girls hostel or vice versa. So right now Management has taken a society on lease as the permanent campus has not been built yet completely. So, they taken 1 Society and 1 Building on lease. 1. Blessings City 2. Metropolis These are the two places which acts as a accommodation for students. Blessings City accommodates around 600 students and Metropolis around 120. Hostel allocation process is you have to draw a cheat based on that you will be given the room. No restrictions on the hostel timings as such. Students can enter or leave the hostel at any time be it day or night. The Mess food is Good but not that much good in taste, The menu changes in 2 Months. The hostel premises is secure by guards and Some Guard Posts are also there. Double sharing option is available in the hostel, few single rooms are also available, but rooms are allotted randomly. Facilities provided in Hostel - Geysar, RO, Washing Machine, Almirah, Study Table, Chair, Bed, Mattress. The quality of all the amenities is good and all works fine. Pool table and Table Tennis is available in Common room. In some rooms washrooms are attached and for some rooms its outside the room. Hostel rooms are cleaned daily 2 People share washroom
Exam Structure :
The admission process is - Once you clear CAT you will receive a Call for GD and PI. IIM Amritsar send calls in around February. CAT is the exam through which you can get into IIM Amritsar. To get an Admission into IIM Amritsar and if you are General Category student it would be better if you have around 95% tile or More.
Admission :
I had applied for all the IIMs, got calls from some new IIMs. There were Multiple reason behind choosing the IIM Amritsar. 1. My best Option among all the call i received 2. Rapidly Growing 3. Decent Placements - The Average Package is around 16 L. 4. Location wise good, Close to Himachal and Delhi as well. 5. Talked to few students who were studying and asked about their feedback.
Faculty :
The course structure was divided into total 6 terms for two years along with the 2 months o summer internship. Exam structure was divided into 2 Parts Mid terms and End Terms, this also depends on the faculty and the subject as few subjects doesn’t had mid-terms. Surprise Quizzes, Assignments, Group Projects, etc all have component wise weightage. The College timing for first year is 9:30 to 3:30, and around 4-6 Classes occurs daily The case-based teaching helps the students to study the actual business. Students gets the clear understanding about the business and their working. Curriculum also involves working on group projects so these projects also help in applying the learning that you have learnt in classrooms. The timely quizzes and assignments also help in revising the concepts and learnings that you have learnt in class. So, the overall curriculum was good. Attendance : 80% Mandatory. Attendance criteria is strictly followed and if your attendance for the semester for any subjects is below 80% then there will be a grade drop accordingly. Yes so many students get grade drops due to not maintaining the attendance. Quizzes used to have negative marking. Component wise weightage: Mid Terms – 20- 35% End Terms – 35 – 40% Quizzes – 10-15% Group Projects – 15- 20% Assignments and Class Participation – 5 - 10 %
Interview Experience :
yes there was a Personal Interview round, for the admission. I gave many mock PIs for the preparation which helps in the final interview. Question were about myself, background, past education, and why this college.
