- Being such an old institution it is even older than many IITs due to which it has a vast alumni connection with it's alumni working in various major companies throughout the world. The campus life is also interesting new hostels are also being made.
- The placement scenario is also amazing. BIT Sindri is one among the few colleges nowadays where even the core branches get handsome packages. The circuital branches have various on campus opportunities to explore and the course curriculum is strict.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure of the college is quite old. The campus lacks modern architecture and all the buildings seems to be made in the late 90's. Although new hostels and departments are being made but the old building need renovation.
- The number of faculties are also less. The number of professors in each branch is not up to the requirement. Due to which we often have merge with other branches for lectures. The lab equipments present are also not updated with present time.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The current course currciculum is according to the NEP 2021, and it is far different from the course curriculum which was taught earlier. The older version of the syllabus had basic subjects like Physics, Chemistry and Maths in the first semester but the new syllabus has a total of 8 subjects in the first semester including History and some branch related core subjects. So the new currciculum has tried to indulge more and more topics into the course providing the broader knowledge from the spectrum. Although it is great to have a wider knowledge of the subjects but at the same time we should also be focusing more on branch related topics which the curriclum lacks somewhere. The currciculum like other colleges do not actually prepare us for the real world problems. The topics included in the syllabus are far from industry point of view and do not hold any specific relevance to the world. Although the course structure is easy to understand one can easily score good CGPA.
Internships Opportunities :
The internships oppurtunities offered at BIT Sindri is not quite good. Students mostly seek for internships on their own. Internshala offers a lot of opportunities on campus followed by Seimens. There are many industrial areas in the localities where one can try for an internships such as BCCL , CMIR , HURL and many other industrial giants. The students still manage to get internships either through alumni connection or through LinkedIn.
Placement Experience :
The placement scenario of BIT Sindri is good it is one of the few colleges where even the core branches get good placements the students become eligible for placments by their 6th semester. The companies coming for core are Vedanta, Tata Steel ,JSW steel , JSL , JSPl and many more. The average packages offered by Vedanta and Tata Steel is around 13 Lpa and around 6-8 lpa for JSW and remaining companies. For the circuital branches like CSE/IT and ECE a lot of companies come for placements like Samsung, Amazon , TCS Prime, Yamaha ,Hitachi etc. The average packages offered by these companies range from 10 to 16 lpa where as DE Shaw offers the highest pacakge that is around 50 lpa. This was the highest pacakge of the year 2023. The percentage of students getting placed is also greater than 90% in most of the cases. My plan after getting the degree is to get a good placment at MAANGs.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The best thing about BIT Sindri is it's high Return of Investment the amount of packages offered for such a small fees is something out of the world which we do not find easily in other colleges nowadays. Since it is a goverment college most of the funds come from the government and the fees is extremely minimal if we look at the facilities provided. The yearly tuition fees is around Rs. 7200 for boys and Rs. 32 for girls whereas the annual student fund fees is around Rs. 7350 for both boys and girls. The hostel charges + electricity bill is around Rs. 9500 for an year which is also very less as compared to other colleges. Speaking of the hikes there are no such fee hikes seen since the funds are mostly government. The number of scholarships are plenty like Reliance , Seimens , E-Kalyan etc which provide an aid to the fees. The scholars also get campus roles for which they get stipends.
Campus Life :
BIT Sindri has many clubs and societies in the campus. The interest of clubs have a wide range from technical to social to cultural to sports and many more. The clubs organise many events throughout the year in both technical and cultural field. The annual tech fest has the name Sandhaan and has many events under it. On the cultural side there are events such as Frehser of the Year which is a competition specially inclined at the 1st year students. Apart from this there is also an annual celebrity event called BITAANSH. The library of BIT is fully wi-fi building with a wide range of books available for academics. The classrooms at different departments are there with new ones like CSE/IT with modern infrastructure but core branches do not have such new classrooms. The infrastructure is quite old for new but new construction work is going on now and new hostels and departments will me made by next year.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel facilities provided are not quite good currently but new hostels are almost complete were the students are soon going to be shifted. In the first year we have to share a room with 4 mates we get a common toilet, a cupboard, a table , chair and a bed. In the second year also we have to again share the room with 4 boys with the same facilities but in third year onwards we get single rooms. The hostels have solar panels so that power is uninterrupted but wi-fi is not available at the hostel we have to put our own. The fees for hostels is extremely less with Rs. 7500 as annual hostel fees and Ra. 2500 as annual electricity bill. The food comes from a private mess avaialbe in the hostel only where the monthly fees is Rs 3900. The food is good and also have a great variety in them.
Admission :
The only way to enroll into the course is through JEE Mains exam. After getting the rank card of JEE Mains student has to apply in the JCECEB offical website with their details and a fees of Rs. 500. Once they do this they will get a merit list published with their CML (Common Merit List) rank which will be their postition in Jharkhand state. The cutoff will be decided on the basis of this CML rank. The application starts shortly after JEE Advanced examination and there will be three rounds of counselling along with a special round which will be done after 2 months of college. The students do get high reservation benefits specially SCs/STs . The CML rank for taking CSE/IT should be around 80 in General , 200 for OBCs , 500 for SCs and 900 for STs.
Faculty :
BIT Sindri has an excellent team of faculties. All the faculties are well qualified with most of them getting their research degrees from top IITs/NITs. Their approach of teaching is also easy to understand and always comes with deep insights of the topics. We have a healthy teacher- student interaction here in our college. The professors openly invite us to clear doubts whenever possible. The learning experience in acadmeics is really great here at BIT Sindri. The only thing this college lacks in terms of professors is the faculty - to - student ratio. The number of professors currently teaching is quite less than what it should have been. This often results in meging of various branches during a common lecture. This scarcity also reflects in labs where we do not have proper amount of lab attendents which also effects our lab experience. Therefore, we do have a able team of professors but looking at the growing strength of students the number of professors have to be increased.
