  • No wi fi in campus or hostle. You can still stall wifi on your own in your hostle room.
  • Labs are outdated. Machines are mostly old and some of them doesn’t work at all.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I choosed this course because i am interested in construction and wanted to learn how the skyscrapers, large bridges and other engineering marvels like the chenab bridges are built especially the structural engineering part of it. Also the scope in government sector is great there are lot of job opportunities. Our curriculum included regular workshops, site visits to nearby sites and interships were must during 2nd and 3rd year summer break. I did my internships from Central Public Works Department in 2nd year and from IRCON international in third year which was a great experience and helped me to learn a lot of practical aspect of construction sector and also given me edge over others in placements. The areas that can be improved in our course is that the labs are needed to be improved new machines are required to give a better practical understanding of concepts within department. The exams are held 3 times each semester 2 mid terms and 1 end semester difficulty is normal.

Internships Opportunities :

Their are many opportunities available for internships. Companies like Tata steel, TSUIL, NHAI visit for internships. They offer trainee roles. They also offer pre placement offers to students. Stipend ranges from ?5000 to ?10000. You can also get internships through our huge alumini network the college was established in 1949 and has a huge network of aluminies. You can contact them through linked in or get in touch through your club or during annual alumini day. I have done my internship from IRCON international. I learnt a lot during my internship. IRCON is an Indian Railways Company which constructs railway tracks and looks after its maintenance. Our project was based in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand. A new railway route was being constructed. I learned a lot about surveying soil stablisation and few more very important things. This internship also helped me in my placements.

Placement Experience :

Final year students i.e. from 7th semester students are eligible for placements. Companies like Tata Steel, L&T , Vedanta limited, TSUIL, TCE, Adani group, Aditya Birla group and many more companies visited the campus for placements. Also Core engineering branch students are also eligible for IT companies like TCS , Accenture, Deloitte etc they also visit campus. Total offers made this year was around 400 Average package is around 6.5 LPA. Highest package is 13.2 LPA by Vedanta for GET role. Around 75% of students were placed. My plans after degree :- I am joining L&T Constructions after my degree. I was offered this role by L&T during my campus placements. My responsibilities will be to assist the senior engineers and learn from them.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Tution fees is divided into 2 parts annual fees (? 7732) and student fund fees (? 4775). For SC and ST the annual fees is ?1957 and for girls it is ?32. Exam fees is ?2000 per semester. The fees are generally not hiked. It didn't increase a single rupee in my 4 years of college life. Hostel charges are around ?7000 per year for room and ? 2500 electricity bill per year summited at once. For mess it is 3900 per month (you don't need to pay mess fees during college vacations i.e. around 3 months.) Financial aid is provided to few students from college known as TFW (Tution Fee Waiver ) scheme to very few students around 10-20 students each year. Few scholarships are available for students like the e-kalyan and others but they are not from college side but still the college helps in getting those scholarships. I am placed in L&T construction for 6 LPA . The job role is Graduate Engineer Trainee. Job responsibility is to assist the senior engineers and learn and gain skills.

Campus Life :

The technical fest takes place each year students of all the clubs and branches show their innovation in these tech fests. The name of tech fest is Tech Mahotsav held each year around February or march. Annual fest does not take place in our college. It used to happen before the Corona virus pandemic. The central library is huge you can find all types of books in the central library. Along with the central library we have many small club libraries. You can become their member by taking thier membership. Classrooms are good we have blackboards along with a large screen for presentation or visual interpretation of concepts. We have a sports club. It is responsible for organising all the sporting events in the campus. We can also take part in intercollege sports events thorugh our sports club. My friend participated in chess tournaments each year. There are many sudent run clubs like eco club that takes care of environment, HNCC for coding enthusiasts etc.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostels are okay probably (3/5). But according to the cost it is (6/5). We only pay around ? 9500 per year for hostel. In first and second year you share room with 3 other roommates from third year you get single rooms. In a room you will get a bed, a table and a chair. You have to bring your matress and all other things. The mess is at the ground floor of each hostel. Meals are okay. You get Non-Veg 5 days a week except for tuesday and thursday. Quality of meal depends upon which hostel you get. Some mess have good taste food. While others are just normal. The menu is decided by the students. Which is approved by the warden then given to the mess incharge. The registration process for the hostel is simple after admission. Students of each branch are offered different hostels. You fill a hostel form pay the fees and you will be allocated a room. Each year you will get different hostel.

Admission :

The admission is based on IIT JEE mains score. After Jee Mains result you need to a fill application form on JCECB website. Application forms are released 1 or 2 weeks after JEE Mains Result. Cost of application form is around ?1000 for general category students and less for reserved categories. After filling the application form we need to wait till the list of students and the seats allocated to them are released. Then you can take admission in the branch that you are allocated or you can try second round. The JEE mains exam is taken for admission is of normal difficulty level but the cutoffs especially for general category students are rising each year so you need to be fast enough to answer as many questions correctly as you can in limited time In college the exams are held thrice each semester. Mid terms and one end semester. Difficulty is moderate. Admission process is good just the staff needs to be more efficient not much improvement needed

Faculty :

The faculty to student ratio is normal. We have around 20 faculty members in our civil engineering department. The faculties are divided into 3 designations:- 1. Professor :- Highly experienced. Middle aged or old faculty member. Mostly PHDs from top 5 IITs. 2. Associate Professor :- Relatively low experienced than professors. Middle aged. Also PHDs from top 5 IITs. 3. Assistant Professor :- Low Experienced young Professors . Currently pursuing or just completed PHD from top 5 IITs. The professors are easy to interact with. I mostly interacted with them everyday. Some associate and assistant professors act like our seniors. Most of them are really helpful and genuinely care for their students ( except few who just think they are doing their government jobs). During the work hours i.e. 9 am to 5 pm Professors are either giving lectures or is present in their respective chambers you can interact with them easily.

After the completion of 3 rd years, students are eligible for placement. About 10 companies came when I was there and they don't have soo many offers. The highest package of 10 lakh waa given to our best student in computer science the average package was 5-6 lakh that's the average package of most colleges here it is the same. The placements of students were quite average about 70 % cause most of the students get diverted. I planned to go in some other field apart from engineering.
