Course Curriculum Overview :

My program here in IIT Madras is B.Tech + integrated M.tech (dual degree) in biological engineering. This program offers me a very broad spectra of knowledge on how the vaccines are produced, how the medical devices can be designed using mathematical calculations, hoe does the microscopic world of animals has evolved and even today how it effects our ecosystem. the curriculum makes you equpped with hands-on experience on wet lab equipments, laboratory machines and many more. Also you can develop research in any of your intereste field of bio-technology. There are many labs with world-class machines & equipments inside in there. Areas for improvements can be to include more of today's generation knowledge instead of just giving the old information. Exam pattern & frequency on the proffesor and also the course you have taken. The schedule of exams is published at the start of the semester and is strictly followed by the institute. The exam difficulty level varies from moderate to tough.

Internships Opportunities :

Since I'm in my second year of college I'm yet to get any internship opportunity. But I can give a few insights on that matter. Just like placements students have to register themselves on the portal & then the process of PPTs, written exams and shortlisting starts. Around July companies takes interviews of the shortlisted candidates. Most of the internships are paid with stipend varying from 25000-1500000. Depending on the job role you are applying to you CV should have those points.

Placement Experience :

Placement percentage at IIT Madras is quite good. considering nation's premier institute, top MNCs & other companies come to hire bright students as their efficient employees. Students have to sit for placement in their pre-final semester. PPTs, written exams, and technical rounds happen before the phase-1 when companies come to interview the short-listed students. The student has to first register on the placement & internship portal to get registered for the placement process. According to the report released by the placement portal of IITM for the year 2022-23 no. of companies visited were 480 while the offers made were 1612. The highest package offered was 13163530, while the median stands at 1700000 per annum. considering both the phase-1 & phase-2 of placements around 65% of students were placed while many others opted for higher studies or research programs. My personal plans are to get a job with a decent package.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Tuition fee is different according to the category student belongs to, for general category it is 1 lakh per semester. I haven't seen no such hike in the fees. You can the pay the amount at the start of your semester. Complete cost of education can be approximated as 15 lakhs including tution fees, hostel fees & miscellaneous charges. I haven't taken any scholarship or financial aid but one can get student loan from any nationalised bank of India. You can get stipend if you do TA under any proffesor, also freelancing is the one of the options.

Campus Life :

SAARANG is Asia's biggest student-run festival which is the official cultural festival of IITM and is held in the month of January. Just 1-2 weeks before the technical fest is held called as SHAASTRA. both festivals have a very high footfall during the fests period. The lib here at IITM is one of the biggest librari in the state. it contains of around 2 million books. You can avail the subscription free of cost if you are an IITM student. Weekly magazines, adaily newspapers are there to facilitate the students. Most of the classrooms are equipped with projectors, sound system and air-conditioning. Classrooms are well maintained & kept clean. Also there's no fixed seating arrangement, one can sit wherever he wants to. The institute boasts its sports 7 fitness facilities in the campus. It has an Olympic standard swimming pool, basketball court, volleyball court, one newly built indoor sports complex, and well-equipped GYM. The sports culture is also very pros[erous at the institution.

Hostel Facilities :

Students can get hostel facility for that you need to pay the required fees. The fee is 37k per semester. Overall the hostel life is good But the sanitation & washrooms are on the path of development and there's a lot of room for them to get developed. Monkeys cause a big nuisance when you are in a hostel. In a hostel room, you get one wall-mounted cupboard, one table, one chair, one bed, and a LAN facility in the room. there are two kinds of menus provided one is south & the other is north. The south one is a bit better than the north one. Overall the food quality is okayish.

Admission :

One needs to write first JEE-mains conducted by NTA based on the cutoff you can qualify for JEE-Advanced which is conducted by any host IIT. The cutoff for advanced is dependent on students category. For general category students the cutoff range is around 90-93 %ile. varies with year. JEE mains is ocnducted in 2 sessions. the NTA counts only the best of the two sessions for final cutoff calculation. Based on the percentile scores you can apply for NITs & GFTIs . After JEE-Advanced is over based on your rankings you need to fill the JoSSA seat allocation form which includes all the IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs. The allocation process is carried out in 6 rounds. after every round you get 3 options. FLOAT: you do not accept allocated institute & the program, you continue in the process. SLIDE: you accept the allocated institute but not he program. FREEZE: you accept both allocated institute as well as the program.

Faculty :

The faculty-to-student ratio is quite commendable at IIT Madras and it stands at 1:80. This ratio certainly affects your learning experience as the professor will be attentive towards you. All the 550 faculties here at IITM are highly qualified as well as distinguished by the Indian Government. Many of them are also indulged in industrial consulting where they give the solutions to the problems faced by the companies. Almost each professor has his/her own research lab where he/she does the research. Many of them have citations and research paper written and published. The approach to teachings is subjective to professors but mainly the goal is to implant the idea through problems & syllabus. Professors have major focus on rather than just passing on the information but how to get developments in those sectors. There is faculty assigned for each group of 5-6 students as an advisor for help academics & called by the name as Fac-Ad.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell in our college was trying its best to provide job opportunities for the students but no companies are ready to give the job to students. The placement training was good but the students want more training about what placement is. They only conduct lots of tests and exams and assignments, etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because I had an interest in how the machine works by itself, like censors, how they work, etc. Faculty members in SRM are very friendly and with top qualifications. I can say that the education provided here is very good in quality. exams are held every month and marks are used to give internal marks.

The placements were not that good at my time. although rround 60% of the students were placed but the salary offered used to be low. The salary offered was between 10K to 20K per month. I dont know about now, the packages must have developed withing these years.
