Remarks :
My experience says if one has decided to study Law seriously attending regular classes within Gauhati area, NEF law College is the best option.
Entrance Preview :
After my +2 , I was determined to study 5 years law course under Gauhati University. I appeared for the entrance exam at NERIM Law College and NEF Law College, Guwahati. Though I cleared the entrance exam of both the aforesaid colleges. I finally decided to study at NEF. I think the reasons were: It is a private Institution under GU and it has a very good reputation for its excellence in academic results.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course structure/curriculum is good. I found it comfortable & easy. The subjects are arranged serially and logically by the University. Arts & Law subjects are taught simultaneously till 6 th semester and then Law Subjects til 10 th semester. Practical paper presentation and Moot court problems are also provided during the last two semesters.
Internships Opportunities :
The college encourages to join Internships at Various Commissions like Human Rights, Women Commissions etc. But as per my opinion and experiences, I would suggest going for Advocate chamber and Court of Law Internships. Court Internships are beneficial one rather than wasting time at various Commissions.
Placement Experience :
Few students of First two batches got placed at Quislex, LPO at Hyderabad. But after that, no company came to this institution. The college needs some active placements for its students just like National Law School standards.
College Events :
Several Events were celebrated & organized by our batch. Like Freshers, Farewell, National level Seminars, Quiz Competitions, Debates etc. The college has a lack of good auditorium to celebrate events. Its seminar hall is not enough to accommodate a number of persons.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure is normal. Since I was from 2009 batch, Rs 12,000 Was the per semester fees. But, from the year 2018, the course fee is revised and it is Rs 20000 per semester as per its website. However, along with semester fees, examination fees are also required to be given during form fill up of semester exam.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
One can avail scholarship. I was lucky to get a scholarship of Rs 30,000 for 3 no. of times. However, the scholarship was granted to me was under Minority scholarship scheme.
Campus Life :
The college doesn't have a huge campus like Auditorium, fields, etc. but I didn't find any difficulty throughout my journey. Regarding ratio, the female is higher in number than males. It is pertinent to be noted that, there is no extracurricular activity, sports, etc.
Hostel Facilities :
The college has no hostel of its own. One has to manage hostel or pg of his own as per his convenience. I spent my entire 5 years by staying at Hostels and PG's near Ganeshguri area. One can choose the accommodation of his own, as college doesn't have its own hostel.
Alumni/Alumna :
Since I was from the 3rd batch. So, only 2 batches were seniors, they were active, academic and helpful.
Exam Structure :
2 no. of Sessionals are usually taken by the Institution before appearing the semester exam conducted by GU. One can appear sessional to build up the confidence to excel in semester exam. In fact, Regularly appearing exams helped me a lot to secure 1st class 10th position in the final results of Law.
Admission :
I saw the advertisement of this Institution at THE ASSAM TRIBUNE newsapaper. So, I shortlisted 3 no. of Colleges. NERIM , NEF and JB Law college. Among these I found NEF the best option as per my suitability. I appeared entrance NLET-2009 and was qualified for admission into BA LLB(H) Course. One can visit physically to the office or can also apply through the college website.
Faculty :
The faculty of Pre Law was outstanding and helpful. Special names include Amrita Chetia Mam, Emon Bordoloi Mam, Dilip Raisaly Sir. About, the Law faculty I would I like to mention names of Anurekha Goswami Mam, Akhtara Mam, Manashi Neog Mam. The college needs some more numbers of quality faculties for its betterment.
