Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose this course because I was interested in Mechanical Engineering and considering my all-India rank it was easy to get. I skipped getting admitted to NIT Durgapur and chose NIT Silchar, which was a wise decision. Faculty student ratio is 1:6. Faculty are very knowledgeable, some faculty had done their higher studies abroad and doing full time teaching job in college. There would be mid sem exam and end sem exam for each semester. Each semester is for 6 months so the mid term would commence in three months and end semester by the end of the six month. Difficulty level of exams I would say was moderate.
Internships Opportunities :
Some companies offering internships - TATA MOTORS, JCB, TCS, INFOSYS, MOTOROLA, JOHN DEERE, DENSO, Stipends are not provided for most of the internship. I did my internship in CMERI Durgapur for 2 months. I was involve in a project which includes working on CAD software like solidworks, unigraphics.
Placement Experience :
Students are eligible for placement starting from the 7th semester. Top IT, core companies, and PSU's offers placement, The highest package I remember was for 15 lpa and the average lpa offered is 3 lacs/annum. Almost every student gets placed and when the total percentage of placement exceeds 85% students can sit for more than one company. My plan was getting into IES and PSU through GATE examination.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
As this is not a private college fees are very nominal. For each even semester the fees was 10 thousand and for each odd semeter it was around 9 thousand. Students belonging to sc community get financial aid from their respective states for around 1 lakh rupees. Placement is very good almost 300%.
Campus Life :
Tech fest named 'Tecnoesis' is held in October and the cultural fest 'Incandescence' is held in April each year. The library is equipped with all relevant books for each stream. Huge spacious classrooms with proper ventilation are present. Gym, basketball court, football ground, lawn tennis court are present in the campus. The internal club for college is also there gymkhana which organises various sports and cultural fest.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel room consists of a single bed, wardrobe, table, ceiling fan, tube light and balcony. First and second-year students have to share their room, for the third and final year single room is provided. Descent meal in mess since mess manager is always a final year student. At the time of registration, you will be asked if you wish to opt for a hostel or not. I opted for a hostel.
Admission :
Getting admission to NIT involves clearing an all India entrance exam 'AIEEE'. This exam will test your knowledge of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics which we study from class 10-12. Registering for the exam requires to register in NTA (National Test Agency). The eligibility criteria depends on percentage of marks in 12 and age limits. There are reservation benefits like if someone is from obc or sc or st the cutoff would be low as compared to a general candidate.
