Major exams are held twice a semester, while minor ones are conducted inbetween the mid-semester and end-semester exams. The course curriculum can feel pretty out-of-date t times but there are important topics for our field in the curriculum.

So I want to become engineer that's why I choose this course. The curriculum helps us for real world applications by practising in the laboratory. There are three examinations - 1) Mid Semester (30 marks) 2) Minor (10 marks) 3) End semester (50 marks) Internal marks - 10

The course curriculum is quite fulfilling and up-to-date with the contemporary industrial standards. However, there can be some improvements in the approach of teaching, like there should be a more practical approach for imparting of knowledge. Exams consist of Mid Semester(30 marks), Minor Test(10 marks), and End Semester(50 marks) examinations. Rest 10 marks is given on the basis of Attendance and/or Assignment and/or class test(s).

as our college is of national importance then our syllabus is totally based on the central government issued type. as we all know our education system lacks on practical based education the same situation is of nits but then also research oriented things are good in nit silchar. college should promote more on project and researches.

So i opted mechanical engineering for B.Tech. I am really into machines and car stuff since childhood. It really helps in the real world dealing in machine stuff. The teachers teaching is friendly and easy to understand. The exams are not that difficult, i would rate that moderate.

In first year course cirriculum is same for all the branches , in first year all the subject are simmilar to the Jee syallbus. In second Year some of the student's branch get updated from their first year score. After that every student are alloted subjects according to their branches. In third year student focuses on the internships and project to improve their practical knowlwdge . Exam held within a week no prepratory holiday is provided , the exam week is so hectic .

To be very honest more than 80% students chooses Mechanical/Civil because they dont get CS/ECE for lower ranks. Same goes for me. But I would say mechanical dept is one of the best and biggest dept in college . Also it gives you many opportunities if u truly aspire to be mechanical engineer

The research environment here at NIT Silchar is pretty good specially in the field of Mechanical engineering,it along with the emphasis on making us learn the new emerging technologies other than the conventional syllabus was what made me choose this department. We have 2 major exams in a semester(2 semester in a year) and 2 Minor exam with difficulty level at par or even better than real world problems we encounter making us develop our thinking skills and grisp on subject thoroughly The faculty our good and experience having multiple awards under their belt some even coming in world's top 2% scientist

The course curriculum of this college is too good and helpful for the Engineering students. The faculty members of our college are also highly qualified and experienced in their particular field of work.

I chose this course because I was interested in Mechanical Engineering and considering my all-India rank it was easy to get. I skipped getting admitted to NIT Durgapur and chose NIT Silchar, which was a wise decision. Faculty student ratio is 1:6. Faculty are very knowledgeable, some faculty had done their higher studies abroad and doing full time teaching job in college. There would be mid sem exam and end sem exam for each semester. Each semester is for 6 months so the mid term would commence in three months and end semester by the end of the six month. Difficulty level of exams I would say was moderate.
Most students, freshly out of school, try to choose an Engineering branch for themselves. You might be someone who has a deep passion for either Mechanical or CSE. In that case, I would advise you to follow your heart.
But if you think not opting for CSE is a bad decision, just ask yourself why you would consider CSE. Is it because you did some coding in your school days and wish to enter into that field, or simply because CSE is popular. Don’t be in the illusion of liking a branch just because everyone is recommending it. Also, don’t go for any branch solely because it has better placements than the other. As long as you enjoy a particular field, you will get good offers.
Mechanical is a good branch at NIT Silchar. Moreover, as research has become increasingly interdisciplinary in nature, various departments collaborate with one another these days. Even Mechanical has a good involvement of CSE- Robotics, CFD, etc. all involve high level coding and the knowledge of Data Structures. Because today most campuses witness IT placements more than core profiles, I would highly recommend you consult the alumni of Mechanical to figure out what placements are like in ground reality.
These are the 2022 placement stats for both the branches at NIT Silchar-
Also, NIT Silchar offers a branch change after the 2nd semester. This is based on your performance in the first two semesters. In case you feel dissatisfied with your choice, you can opt for branch change as well.
For your first year (whichever branch you choose) maintain good grades, talk to your seniors and explore your stream.
IIIT Guwahati is a relatively new institute so its placement might not be at par with NITSilchar. Here is a brief comparison of the placement statistics of both institutes

Moreover, the academic environment is much better at NIT Silchar than at IIIT Guwahati. As for the location, NIT Silchar is gradually overcoming all connectivity issues and the situation is only going to get better.
Ultimately, the final choice depends on your preferences. If you are inclined towards Mechanical, choose NIT Silchar but if you want to pursue a career in CS, definitely go for IIIT Guwahati.
Having some friends studying in these institutes, I can say that as per what they mentioned, NIT Patna arrives with a better placement rate than the other two counterparts.

But, apart from the factors mentioned above, NIT Silchar is several steps ahead because it has established one of the best campuses, unlike many. That is the only brownie point NIT Silchar enjoys. It is best if you still research vividly about the prospects implanted in either institutes, and see what suits you best.
