Remarks :

As a pass out, all I can say is my 4 year in my UG college was nothing compared to my 2 year stay in NIT Rourkela. I made memories I will never forget, made friends for life, learnt from these genius professors and passed those goddamn exams! If you ask me to give ratings to this college, I will give 10 stars for the memories. Academics was strict as hell, we get lesser time for fun. But that made those fun times, precious.

Entrance Preview :

I got good GATE score which is why I chose to pursue my M. Tech. Although it was the nearest NIT to my home, I would always preferred NIT Rourkela over other NITs. Because of it's huge infrastructure and intra college co-curricular activities. No, there was no interview process for masters.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course was good but the subjects I would prefer in my Masters in Civil Engineering, were "missing" in this college. They truly focus on practical learning. The thing that made NIT Rourkela different from other Tech colleges is their initiatives for Research work from Undergraduate level itself. Seminar and technical writing was a must for every student.

Internships Opportunities :

Yes, they provide internship to other colleges students. During summer holidays, interns from different parts of India come here for their internship. As Rourkela steel plant is in the city, they collaboration with NIT-R to provide their world-class training in mechanical engineering. Average stipend differ from 5k to 12k depending upon the supervisors and department.

Placement Experience :

Almost 80% UG students got placed in their final year. And as for PG students, more than 50% of us got placed in good esteemed companies. For placement they have a different building named TIFR building. Students were trained before appearing in a placement. Companies like IBM, CTS, Tech Mahindra, Microsoft, L&T, Simplex, Mercedes, Mahindra, and many more visit our campus annually. Packages differ within a range of 3.8 lacs to 32 lacs. Compared to other streams, civil engineering have lesser companies visiting for placements. As a whole , placements were good.

College Events :

If you are into events and fests, NIT-R is your "paradise". Starting from Ethnical Fest, Innovasion, Celebrity night, International Student Meet and many other cultural, sports and technical events, NITR students enjoy their weekends celebrating these fests with joy and relinquish their tired mind. College authority with student unions conduct all these events smoothly. Students from different local, national and international colleges come, participate and enjoy their stay in our college.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Compared to other NITs, fee structure was relatively high in here. For each semester, we have to pay nearly 70k in Masters. In total, for the 2 year course We had to pay nearly 3 lakh. The thunderstruck of high fee structure was relieved as we get 12k as scholarship money each month.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Yes, for us GATE qualified PG students, we get 12k each month as our scholarship. Other scholarship includes alumni scholarships, special scholarship from different companies and government. Yes, the college help their student in getting loan. Never faced such case, but quite sure they do.

Campus Life :

Although academics will take majority of your time, you will easily find students doing extracurricular activities in the campus. We have more than 15 clubs in the campus. Art, music, swimming, sports(any), technical, drama, dance you name it. Anything you want to do you will find a club and a huge group of students sharing your common extracurricum. We have a high budget for each club, a student activity centre for gatherings and a fixed goal to explore our inner talents in these clubs.

Hostel Facilities :

Yes I was residing in a hostel. The hostel accommodation in NIT Rourkela is the best you can get in India. Comparable to IIT Kgp, in here we have 8 boys hostel, 2 girls hostel and 1 married hostel. As a PG student, we got single rooms in our final year. Rooms were in A1 condition with good hygiene and maintenance. All rooms were accessible to college LAN network and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms we're cleaned every week. Along with UG, PG and PhD are also accommodated in these hostels. We had to pay 20k for each semester. Food was worse except Sundays.

Alumni/Alumna :

As a PG student, interaction with alumni was not that much good. Alumni network focuses on UG students much more than PGs. Yes college do provide a platform for student-alumni interaction. Annually a event is organized by the college for this. Yes, alumni do contribute in development of our college. You see, our alumni are in big multinational companies and with the help of them, these MNCs do visit our campus for placement. Also, they financially contribute to our college in the form of special scholarships and funds.

Exam Structure :

Frequent Class tests followed by mid-sem will make even the laziest student to study for hours. Attendence and participation in lab are a must. You can learn a hell lot of things from there. But yes the routine of a NIT Rourkela student will make you tired at the end of the day. We have classes from early morning 8am to 5pm in the evening with a lunch break of 90 minutes. Every day.

Faculty :

Faculties were highly qualified and experienced. Nearly every faculty have a doctorate from IITs and NITs with huge experience. Although some of them are not student friendly but a majority of them cares for what their students are getting from their lessons. Standard of teaching is very high. Attendence in classes area must. Stringent actions are taken for low attendence. If you can befriend a professor life in here will be a cakewalk.

Placement Experience:

Though placements are guaranteed and are provided, but the placements do not match career goals for every student. After this degree I plan to take course to expand my programming knowledge and learn and grow More.

Placement Experience:

The college has a good placement record, but it only has an 80-95% placement rate. Because the members of the college placement cell are quite expert and have very good industrial exposure, they invite good companies for the placement drive, and the placement cell also assists us during the college placement round. The college's highest placement offer is 12 Nalco, MCL, RSPL, CTTCA, and the median income offer is around 7.50 LPA.

Entrance Preview:

GATE and JEE (Mains and Advanced) were the two exams given by me. I scored well in both of them and got selected at two IITs, out of which I selected this one. I submitted my academic transcripts (class 12th scorecard, graduation degree, JEE, and GATE score), financial documents, and identity proof for verification.

Remarks:

Based on my Gate score, I opted this college. Since my requirement was a core branch and my future objective was to pursue a PhD so I went for this college where we had the flexibility to work on our domain with regular stipend from AICTE for Gate qualified students.

Admission:

No we were selected on th basis of our Gate score and academic credentials. Someone who doesn't have a valid Gate score could get admission without stipend provided that they have a sound academic career.

Placement Experience:

The average placement here is decent but the highest package always amazes us. This time it was 21 LPA which is pretty good. Students are eligible for campus placements from 7th semester. Talking about the companies, you won't get to see companies like Google and Microsoft but companies like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Cognizant and Capgemini do visit the campus and offer pretty good packages.
