- One of the thing that I liked was Club/Society Culture at NIT Rourkela, there are several societies here at NIT Rourkela where one can get Involved for their Professional development.
- The Campus of NIT Rourkela is one of the most among all NITs. The campus is so vast that one can't roam around without a cycle.
Dislikes
- One of the things that I disliked is that if you are coming from a city background, you will not feel good in Rourkela. Rourkela is not so developed city where you can find several Clubs and Malls.
- The teaching methodology of the Professors is not good too. Same as other Nits and IITs you will get only the old Syllabus.
Course Curriculum Overview :
My branch is Chemical Engineering it is relevant in all industries wherever one can go from Paper Industries to Chip Production. That is the reason why I chose this course. In my opinion, the course prepares you well for real-world Problems. I think they should include modern Technologies like Carbon Capture and Hydrogen Economy. The Exams here at NIT Rourkela are not no difficult I would say and also they are pretty Easy.
Internships Opportunities :
There were several companies comes to our campus for hiring and they hires for intern in their 3rd Years. Generally , Software comes more than that of core companies. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Wells Fargo also comes to our campus for interns.
Placement Experience :
Talking about the placements of my college, they are pretty good. In 2023 the average package for chemical engineering was around 12.9 LPA,which is comparable to other Top NITs. Generally, companies start coming for the placements after the start of the 4th year. Last time there were around 1300 offers were given to 1075 students and 200 companies visited. The highest Package was 1.2 Crore. For our branch, 97 % of students got placed last year.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The Fees vary in the summer and autumn semesters. Tuition fees are 63000 Rs excluding Hostel and Mess Fees. The fee becomes around 1Lakh 3k Rs after including the Hostel and Mess Fee. So, in all a total of Rs 2 Lakh we had to pay as fees, which includes Everything. The Caution fee is rs 5000 per semester, Registration fees, admission fees, and development fees all together go around 10000 Rs. For reservation Categories like SC, and ST there are no Tuition Fees, all other fees are the same. Financial Aid is provided to those who have valid Income Certificates according to their Income Group.
Campus Life :
There are 2 major fest in our college. The technical fest innovision and the cultural fest Nitrutsav and they generally happens in November and February. If we about our Library it is pretty good, and contains all the required academic books but not non-academic books.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel Facility here at NIT Rourkela is not so good. There are almost 13 hostels are there in NIT Rourkela , but all them are old except Vs and Sd hostels. The mess food is also not good at all but its very affordable for someone from a poor background.
Admission :
I actually got this college via my JEE Rank, I didn't know about my college so much before Counselling. Among all the NITs, my college is one of the best in terms of Placements, Club Culture, and Environment. I also applied to NIT Trichy but didn't get it. Generally, If someone wants to get into NIT Rourkela they need to sit in Jee exam, and if they get a decent rank then after counseling they can come here.
Faculty :
The faculty-to-ratio is pretty good, It's around 1:20. Every student can interact with their professors pretty easily. But not all Professors are good, some are very chill others are strict. Some of the faculties that I like are Praddep Sir and Avanti Mam. I like Pradeep Sir because of his teaching method, He teaches very well. Also, I don't like some faculties Like Hari Mohan Jena, cause he is too strict. In General will be there in a semester and they are pretty easy, also some of my friends study one night before the exam and they pass. Almost No one fails. Talking about the curriculum, it is not so relevant.
