My college- BITS

Remarks :

First I took an exam namely bitsat, every year cutoffs are released for each program offered here. According to cutoffs, we can prioritize the campus and branch which we can select in the following iterations. There were 6 iterations at my time but in this pandemic, there were 9 iterations (maybe more). Application form and all the details are available on their official Web site. There are fees benefits for the reservation category but cutoffs are the same for everyone. This is a very accurate procedure and this procedure should be implemented in government colleges too. Reservation criteria are just given too weightage.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Well everybody wants cs. But I got electronic and instrumentation. Eee, ece, and eni all have same subjects till 2nd year. Then it becomes more branch-specific. Faculty to Student Ratio was not good in my opinion in the online mode. Well, that applies to fairly every college. But the offline mode is a fair ratio mainly 1:80 approx. The faculty was nicely qualified. Teaching methods vary from teacher to teacher. But most of them had nice methods. Not going to lie but there are exams every month. Not like midterms but quizzes/assignments etc, only the 1st month of a semester is somewhat free then or becomes hectic. Term exams in the online mode were difficult although solvable some subjects had questions related to each other if you didn't know one question then you are done.

Internships Opportunities :

I am a 2nd-year student. Placements are mainly based on CG. So yes get good CG. Don't think that campus life. There are several self initiatives opened. students of this Campus have started.

Placement Experience :

From the 3rd year onwards placements start. Companies visited were Microsoft, Google, IBM, etc. The highest package was 1 cr approx and the average was around 15 to 20 lakhs about 40 percent of people only who get placements.

Fees and Financial Aid :

I am currently a 2nd-year student. Cost to study is high as compared to government colleges abkit double the price. Financial assistance was provided by the campus in terms of student loans. Internships etc start from the onset of the 3rd year.

Campus Life :

Life at the campus is what you would expect it to be fun, adventurous, exciting, etc. Annual fests are conducted every year namely waves which happen mostly in November. Most textbooks are available in Library in addition to any reference books, thesis materials, novels, etc. There is a sports facility where all the major sports are played. There are many clubs namely art, music, dance, etc. The arts club is named art and deco by students.

Hostel Facilities :

Facilities in the room include a desk( fairly long) chair, 3 plug points, a lan point, windows, balcony, cupboard, and bed. The meal is sometimes good but according to its local( literally) taste it doesn't suit me. I was an online student so hostel accommodation wasn't a big issue. It is affordable.

Placement Experience:

The placement at my college are decent. Students from Computer and IT department easily get placed at a company. The companies that frequently visit Goa engineering college are persistent, one shield, Infosys, tcs , Wipro etc . Each year there are around 300 offers received in the entire college. The highest package a student has got is 15lakhs per annum from TurtleShell. The average package is 6 LPA. Around 50% od the students get placed. I wish to work at a product based tech company after my graduation.

Placement Experience:

Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.

Remarks:

The college as a whole has good faculty, infrastructure and good placements. It can be one of the best colleges one could get (if not an IIT). The only negative (not exactly) remark would be the fee structure of the college
