Admission through NEET PG. Got in through Karanataka State Quota GM. Only 10 seats in Karnataka. After reservation, only 3 to 4 seats for GM in MMC for MS General Surgery. The admission process is smooth in MMC. The administration section is helpful in the processing of the Seat. More details are to be put up on the official website.
Course Curriculum Overview
MS General Surgery in MMC was supposed to be the best in Karnataka. But overall, it's not comparable to any top colleges of India. Pros : 1. High OPD patient load. Variety of cases seen. 2. Inpatient load is also good. From 50 to 100 cases on an average per week in any unit. 3. Good OT setup and availability of Laparoscopy. 4. Due to PGs in almost all departments, any emergency was attended to faster and was available for on-call consultation. 5. PGs can attend Regular CMEs conducted in and around Mysore. Cons : 1. Academics is decent at best. Regular classes were canceled for almost the entire 2 yrs. 2. No Regular tests or term exams were conducted nor was there any special interest in research. 4. Surgical hands-on training is given only in the last part of the final year if senior staff allow it. 5. No Laparoscopic training was given. Only handling of instruments is learned. 6. Infrastructure and facilities are limited. 7. Thesis and Exam preparation only in the last 3 to 4 months.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee structure: Rs. 1,30,000 per year is the fee paid to the administration. No special scholarship was provided for GM. 2 months of rotational training in Super specialty depth in NIMHANS, Bhagavan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, and KIDWAI Cancer Institute. Fees for that will be approximately Rs. 5000 excluding the stay and other costs in Bangalore. Department funds and other costs: Rs. 2000 approx per year. Cost of Books and other study material: Rs. 10,000. Stipend (recently hiked) : Rs.45,000/- for the first yr Rs. 50,000/- for the second yr Rs. 55,000/- for the third yr But stipend is usually delayed by 1 month by the administration. No other Internships were provided.
Campus Life
Life at Campus : Annual UG Fest conducted. No canteen or and food court available exclusively for Doctors. The campus is old. No infrastructural improvements. Opds and casualty are very old and not well maintained. Library - PG library is well equipped with books. But the digital library is not updated. The reading hall is not well maintained. Sports and other activities in the govt maintained ground. No separate ground is available. No other sports facilities exclusively. Mysore is a nice place to stay and to visit nearby tourist attractions.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility provided for PGs by Govt : Very old Hostel.TYPICAL OLD GOVT HOSTEL.Not maintained well. Twin sharing or 3 sharing and single rooms available. The walls are not well maintained. Cot, desk and cupboard are given. But none of them in good condition. Water sepage through walls seen regularly. No Regular cleaning and maintenance are done by the Hostel workers. Some rooms have seen collapsing parts of the roof. Need to either repair the rooms or upgrade the hotel. Toilets have the worst maintenance. Hot water available. Trees grown inside Hostel and corridors are spacious. Common TV room present. But no subscription to channels most of the time. The dining hall can accommodate only 20 members. The food is decent. Unlimited meals. But the taste is just decent. Mess workers are very arrogant and uncooperative. Cost of mess and Hostel maintenance up to Rs. 4,500 per month. Parking area - adequate parking space for vehicles. But the approach road Is still a mud road and not well maintained.
