Playbook of IIT Bombay

Remarks :

IIT Bombay takes admissions directly through JEE Advanced. Allocation of Branch solely depends on rank in JEE Advanced. Each branch has a different closing rank each year but mostly, the closing ranks for a particular course remain mostly the same every year. The branch allocation process is also known as counselling. The Counselling window allows students to fill their preference of branch and college as well.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum for Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay is very holistic but lacks the necessary industry exposure for the students. The faculty is good however, the course is generally run in 2 different sections of around 60 students each. Curriculum, exam syllabus, faculty, exam difficulty and even the grading schemes are all different for both the sections

Internships Opportunities :

Internship process for studenst is similar to that of placements. All the students in pre-final year are eligible for internships during the summer breaks of their pre-final year. Internship opportunities are provided to the students in all roles (tech, consulting and finance). Employers offer a handsome stipend for interns and also provide them with an opportunity to continue their employment after the internship as a full time employee.

Placement Experience :

All final year students are eligible for placements. Companies from all the domains (tech, consulting, finance) visit the campus for placements for domestic and international placements. Packages for students can vary from 8 Lacs p.a. to 1 CR p.a. While some of the students don't appear for placements, due to plans of higher studies or pre-placement offers from their summer internships, most of the students who do get offers.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The total cost of study for a student, for the undergraduate course, could be anywhere between 8-10 Lacs, including hostel accommodation and mess. However, for SC/ST students, this cost can come down to less than 50k for the whole course duration, because of financial assistance provided to them on campus. Several need and merit based scholarships exist for students.

Campus Life :

Mood Indigo and Techfest are some of the largest college fests in India and are completely managed by student bodies. There are ample opportunities for extra-curricular activities for students. There are also a lot of clubs and student communities for various activities ranging from art to tech to social welfare

Hostel Facilities :

Hostels are provided to every student on campus which costs around 20k per semester including food. Since the campus and the hostels are old, they are small and not yet equipped with a lot of modern amenities. However, a lot of hostels are currently undergoing renovation and getting upgraded. Food is provided by private mess service providers and of decent quality.
