Remarks :
For Aerospace Engineering(BTech.) in IIT Bombay, JEE Advanced Rank Cutoff for General category was around 2000. The admission process was quite smooth, a form was floated by the institute to let us know the technical requirements(laptop, net connectivity, etc.) and student mentors were assigned to all Freshers in the first week itself to provide a smooth transition to college life (albeit online).
Course Curriculum Overview :
I was quite fascinated by Aerospace since my school days and chose this course as this field is experiencing a major upheaval presently. There are many courses offered in this department and 1-2 professors for each course regarding the faculty. All the professors are highly qualified and have completed masters or are engaged in research in their respective fields. Due to the online semester, there is a high frequency of short quizzes or assignments conducted regularly for almost every course in addition to the mid-semester and end semester examinations. I'd say getting an 8 pointer in a course is considered around average(maybe a bit above).
Internships Opportunities :
I don't think I am the best person to talk about this since I'm still in 2nd year but as far as I know, internships are offered mostly in 3rd year under the PT cell. For research internships, the selected interns are required to work full time for around 4-6 months on a project and receive a fixed stipend. Internships are offered in various areas ranging from web dev to ML/DL/AI to finance and management.
Placement Experience :
Placements have always been quite impressive here with many major companies, including Honeywell, Airbus, Unilever, TATA, Accenture, Microsoft, etc., approaching the institute. For BTech, students become available for placements from their 7th semester. For the academic year 2020-21, a total of 492 students got placed with a placement percentage of around 92.13%. The average CTC offered was around 20LPA
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I don't see any significant hike in the fee. The fee structure may vary depending on the program (BTech/MTech/BDes, etc.). It's advised to check on the IITB website for the exact structure per semester. The institute provides scholarships to students whose family income is below a certain amount(again, details on website) and for academic proficiency throughout the course of the program.
Campus Life :
Campus life is something everyone looks forward to. Mood Indigo, one of Asia's largest fests, is the annual fest of IIT Bombay which usually happens in the month of December, and the TechFest in January. We have a really good library with an extensive range of books on a vast number of topics along with an e-library facility too for online reading. There are various student councils(Sports council, Tech council, Cultural council to name a few) comprising of different clubs run by students for conducting events and workshops pertaining to their club. I have been working in the Sports council for a few months now. Apart from this, the institute sends teams to participate in Inter IIT meets, Udghosh, Aavhan and many such sports gatherings. GCs are a major part of hostel culture which happen annually.
