BITS Goa : A Goa you never knew existed

Remarks :

The admission process was very straight forward. The admission is through the exam BITSAT which provides admission to three campuses of the BITS university which are Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad. While filling the exam form you also have to provide your preferences for the programs at BITS. You are then given admission to the program based on your prefrences and marks scored in BITSAT.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course was my sencond option after cse because of interest in automobile. after the first year because of common courses the faculty to student ratio improves by a lot. the faculty is extremely qualified and are really good, some are strict as is expected but all in all they genuienly try to help students out. Exams were divided into mid tems after two months and comprehensives which happen at the end of the semester. Theres no pass/fail criterion but relative grading and its hard to get good grades because of extreme competetion

Internships Opportunities :

There are a lot of ways in which the college helps in getting internships. After the second year companies come for summer placements like microsoft, google, and many other big companies. Theres also two compulsary internships called PS1 (2 months) and PS2 (6 months) which are provided by the college itself based upon your cgpa and prefrence. For projects apart from the once you get in th interships (which are industry specific) you can always approach a professor and ask for a academic project or a design project.

Placement Experience :

You become eligible for placements after clearing all your compulsory courses in the 4th year. The list of companies are a lot and can be accessed via the college website. Highest package in 2021 passing out batch was 50Lakhs. Profiles offered were in the tech, finance, non-tech and core-engineering. From the students who choose to sit for placements 90% of them get placed.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Since i joined BITS theres has been a steady 3-5% hike in the fee structure. Per semester you'll have to pay about 2Lakhs. There are a lot of scholarships the most popular onces are Merit scholarship and Merit-Cum-Need scholarship. The college does help in getting financial assistance to deserving and needy and students. Theres a very good placement unit which provide a lot of opportunities according to the needs of recruiting company.

Campus Life :

The fests and activities at BITS Goa are amazing and are spread out such that we get to experiences throughout the year. The main fests are Waves (cultural fest), Quark (Technical Fest) and Spree (Sports Fest), not to mention that all the 3 fest are some of the leading fests in their repective areas. Classrooms are spacious with a wide blackboard, projector, AC and obviously desks and chairs. We have a beautiful campus with a lot of space to excercise. We al so have a SAC (Student Activity Center) which has a yoga room, carron room, billiards table, TT room, Squash court, Basketball court, Tennis Court, Cricket and Football ground. We have all kind of clubs and departments in the college to name a few robotics, aero, coding, app making, lot of sports clubs, AI/ML club, and every and any club you can think of. And if you dont have a particular club you can start your own.

Hostel Facilities :

I was in a newly constructed hostel and there are a lot of new hostels coming up. The new rooms are pretty spacious and comes with a mirror, bed(no mattress), table, chair and a cuboard. Each floor has 4 common bathrooms, which are tended to every day and are pretty clean. Everyone has to live inside the campus.

Placement Experience:

Final students are eligible for placements. Companies such as turtle mint, findem, Nokia, IFB, Samsung, Adani power, HDFC Bank, Tesco, Upskill, ONGC, Jio, and many more. Last year almost everyone got placed. Average package is 10 LPA. This year though placements were not as expected because of economic depression. Even after the placements, lay offs have become common. Hence to cope up with the competition we need to keep upskilling.
