Remarks :

I was very happy with the overall experience and would recommend everyone interested in design to go study there.

Entrance Preview :

I appeared for CEED to get into IDC. I had done my bachelors in Design from Symbiosis and hence was looking out for opportunities in India for Masters.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is great and extensive. It's very project focused and so you receive a lot of hands-on experience. Most projects are in groups. The curriculum is very flexible too. They allow you pick electives of your choice.Since students come from diverse backgrounds, there is good diversity for everyone.Overall, I had a lot of fun.

Internships Opportunities :

Getting internships is not a challenge. The college doesn't provide it though. There are alot of industry tie ups and in-house projects which some students opt in for. The stipend for internship varies from Rs 8000 to Rs 35000.

Placement Experience :

Placements are good as there is a high demand for designers in the market. During my time, alot of service companies like TCS, Infosys etc came to campus for placement. However, the trend has changed to Product companies now. The minimum package you can expect is around 8L per annum and the maximum goes upto 24L for a fresher.

College Events :

As we were part of IIT bombay, we participated in all events organised by IIT. There were alot of intra and inter college competitions like singling, dancing, dramatics, elocution, painting etc. We had a sports day too with events like carrom, cricket, football, athletics etc. Mood indigo and Techfest being the annual popular ones.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure was nominal. The yearly tution fee was about 24,000 a year. This would get compensated especially if you received a TA ship which was about 8000 a month. It was like you were paid to study at IIT. But that amount was good enough to manage all your monthly expenses.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I got the TAship in college. That helped me manage all my expenses. The TAship is based on your rand during the entrance test.

Campus Life :

Campus life was focused around the hostels. Everyone from the same batch stayed on the same floor and so it was fun. Our bathrooms and the mess area was common. So you kept bumping into each other all the time.In IDC, the gender ratio was almost 50:50. However, it was 90:10 in other departments.

Hostel Facilities :

I was in hostel 10. Ours was the first batch to get the new rooms in the hostel. So our rooms very really good and the toilets clean too. We had everything new for us in the hostel. The food was good too. We would be served non veg once a week. There was a food committe in every hostel too that took care of all complaints.

Alumni/Alumna :

Yes, the alumni is very closed knit. As we were a batch of 15 students passing out every year. You almost knew everyone 2 batches ahead and behind of you.

Exam Structure :

Our schedule was very hectic with alot of focus on attendance. We never had exams. Only assignments. However, assignments were given on a weekly basis. Each module ran across 2 weeks. So there was alot happening and alot to learn. The last year had 2 projects. 1 students did in house where as the other was preferably done in the industry.

Admission :

You give an entrance. Once selected, they call you for an interview round. before that, there is a design test. The interview is an informal discussion where the panel reviews your work, they try understanding your inclination towards design and aptitude.

Faculty :

The faculty were good and very academic focused. A lot of emphasis was given on methodology and process. All professors don't have too much industrial experience, so there is a lacking where latest trends in interaction are concerned. However most of the professors are PhD holders and have published alot of papers at International conferences.
