Prita's Review On Industrial Design Centre, Indian Institute Of Technology - [IDC], Mumbai

Remarks :

There are a lot of facilities available for the student's overall growth. Students are required to take up an extracurricular activity in the first year of college as a part of the curriculum. Students can also do minor courses in a department of their choice, having met certain criteria.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course structure is well planned. However the execution is not guaranteed. It depends on the prof what he wants to teach and hence each batch will have different experience in each course. As for the exams, most of the design courses don't have exams but students are graded for assignments and projects.

Placement Experience :

I do not have experience of it, or have knowledge about it. There are semester exchange programmes. This takes place in the 4th year. Students are required to do summer internships as a part of their curriculum.

College Events :

IDC is part of IIT Bombay and it has fests lile Mood Indigo which is said to be Asia's largest, techfest, abhyuday, aavhan, esummit, and other smaller events that keep happening. Hostel have their own fests.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

It is on the expensive side but considering the facilities provided, it is justified. It is also already subsidized by the government. It is Rs. 1,15,000 for a semester without mess charges for a general category student

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Their is a scholarship system. The students can apply for scholarship and they need to pay it back when they start earning which will in turn will be used for the education of the current students.

Campus Life :

A lot of workshops, programs are organised throughout the year. Festivals are celebrated, there are sports events organised by different departments as well as different department trips. Students from any department can join.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel is relatively new and so is pretty good as per hostel standards. The mess food is also decent. The hostel has a gym and dance room. There is also a canteen that functions from 12 noon to 3pm and 6:30 pm to 3:00 am.

Alumni/Alumna :

The senior students are really helpful while living on campus as they have already encountered and dealt with the problems that exist for us. So it really helps if you talk to your seniors of you're stuck somewhere.

Admission :

Had an entrance exam UCEED which is of 300 marks. It has 3 sections. They are mcq type questions. It is conducted in January and results come out in February- March. This is when we get to know our rank. Once you have the score card, one needs to apply on the uceed portal with the necessary documents and details. After the application is done, 3 allotment lists are released. If you get allotted a college in the first list but want a better college then you have the option to float or accept the college you got allotted. Some supplementary lists are also released in case of vacant seats

Faculty :

The faculty is very good and expert on their field. It depends on how much the student wans to benefit from it. Learning happens by getting feedback on your work. All the faculty is willing to help the students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

They start with very beginner thing so you get to learn right form the start. The connection in between is very understanding. There's nothing as such to improve everything is being set properly according to the industry. They also prepares you for the real world by giving some collaborative class room projects. The exams are being taken in 3 parts midterms, end terms and final juries. The duration between them is fair as well.

Placement Experience:

The placements are great. We are located in a corporate area which makes companies very accessible to the students of our college. We have companies like gucci, google, mondelez, dr. reddys and many more such companies coming to our college not just for placements but also for internships.

Placement Experience:

Students are required to undergo observerships and apprenticeships from the first year itself. Many companies arrive on campus every summer to conduct these hires, such as Deloitte, Landor, Tata, Kohler, Havells, Adobe, Google, etc. The recorded overall placement success rate was 92%. The highest recorded international package stood at 1.2 CR per annum, offered by Google. The average package was recorded at 11 LPA. Students are required to undergo a capstone project in their final year.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The workshops, quality of machines, worspace, makers lab and the material handling influenced me to choose this course.I was interested in design from childhood but the college helped me providing a direction to my vision.I don't suggest any improvements, frequency and timing of exams along with our difficulty level is the best.

Placement Experience:

avg package of 3l/yr is offered for campus placements. i do not wish for any campus placements as they are not apt for me and the college basically lies about its achievements. he departmen does not know of any companies that visit the college for placements so this is a big red flag for me. i plan to get a masters degree after my graduation from SIDT. The faculty have no connections with people outside of their bubble which is even more difficult as he students who looks up at them can be severly disappointed. The website mentioned 95% placements, which in my opinion are all lies. Kindly enquire about all of this before admitting in this institute as the websites and socials can be extremely misleading.

Placement Experience:

We will only know about the campus placements and packages offered this year as this is the first time a batch is graduating from this campus. The average package as we've heard is 8 lakhs per annum. The Pune campus is older and it's said to have good placements as well so the same is expected here as well.

Placement Experience:

The placements are decent. As mentioned, they bring in corporate companies rather than design studios, so it is a given that you get a good salary. The placements department coordinates through email and you have to do tasks and interviews until finally get the job. A lot of students apply on their own too though.
