Entrance Preview :
IIT-JEE (AIR 5063), BITSAT, AIEEE (AIR 10021), MHT-CET (Mah. Rank 756) I wanted to study in pure sciences, only Physics, and so my choices were Integrated M.Sc. at IIT Roorkee and IIT Kanpur. I was allotted IIT Roorkee and I happily accepted the chance.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course structure is quite good. First-year includes intro courses of all fields, which gives a nice technical background. In the later years, a few courses overlap but that is quite natural in pure sciences. One thing that was lacking was that a few specialization courses in the final year were not available due to the small strength of the class.
Internships Opportunities :
Yes, it does, but it is very, very situational. There is no official open program for internships at IIT Roorkee but there have been cases where people working on relevant projects who contacted a specific professor were allowed for a summer internship.
Placement Experience :
The placement cell is great, very proactive, and very vigilant. It is well managed and quite strict rules are enforced for companies and students alike. Almost all students who sit in placements are placed with some job.
Exam Structure :
Exams are pretty much chilled. Only one midterm. Labs only at end terms except for exclusive lab courses. Mid terms are 2, sometimes 3 if you have a back/extra course in one day, so during the midterms the days and nights are hectic, but in general, exams don't take up much time at all.
Faculty :
The faculty is in general good and helpful. Some of the older professors are old-fashioned (outdated) due to their old age and are unable to capture the class' attention, but most of them are actually very knowledgeable. However nearly every department is hiring younger faculty very aggressively of late, and the old guard is gradually retiring so the situation is improving.
