IIT Roorkee review

Remarks :

IIT Roorkee is a premier institute. The campus is vast with interesting student life, with popular fests such as Cognizance (technical fest), Thomso (cultural fest), and Sangram(sports fest). The institute sponsors a large number of student clubs including IMG, DSG, IITR Motorsports, ASME, MDG, SHare, and many more. It provides a progressive atmosphere of sports of all kinds, be it basketball, squash, swimming, boxing, etc. It has a strong alumni base with renowned personalities. Admission process, the candidates must have passed class 12 with mathematics, physics, and chemistry, with a minimum of 75 percent. They must clear JEE Mains and JEE advances to apply for B.Tech programs. IIT Roorkee in the middle of a small town is surrounded by beautiful destinations like Rishikesh, Haridwar, Nainital, Srinagar, Delhi, and many more. You can always go on a small vacation with your friends to the nearby hill station. Do refer to these blogs Watch out, IITR News Media Quora.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Initially, I choose Mechanical out of my JEE rank. The professors are overqualified for their jobs. Many of them have studied in elite institutes and are themselves involved in extensive research. They have worked in various universities abroad, and have various research papers in their names. The curriculum is good, though honestly not the best. To assist teaching we have a number of tutorials, practicals, and lab work. Third yearities have an industrial tour. Outside classrooms are various technical campus groups for you to explore. The academic system is a credit-based system towards the ultimate CG calculation. Each semester has a mid-term and end-term exam. Some courses seem irrelevant and some exciting. The courses may or may not be useless but it matters for the CGPA, kind of important for your resume with the semester being online, classes are held in Microsoft Teams. Other platforms like cisco and google meet are also used. You can access our MGCL (library) online too.

Internships Opportunities :

Campus aids you in the third-year first semester, where companies come to hire interns, on-campus interns. It involves rounds of testing, applications, and interviews. Off-campus internships involve students applying on their own, involve mailing. It can be applied any year, any semester. GSoC is quite popular here. Research interns involve you working with a professor on a project.

Placement Experience :

Placement season begins in our final year. The nature of companies coming to IITR is quite diverse. There are software giants like Microsoft, Oracle, Google, Facebook. Banks like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley. Oil and mining companies of Schlumberger, Shell and Rio Tinto, and numerous other firms. This year the total number of job offers were 803 and companies participated 139. Highest international package: 1.5 crores. Highest domestic offer: 80 lakhs. The placement season begins in the months of October, November, and December. Your CG matters and most importantly coding matters in one way or another.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee is almost 2,50,000 per year with all facilities included. All SC/ST and PWD are exempted from paying tuition fees. Students with annual income less than 1Lakh don't have to pay tuition fees and those having income >1 lakh but <5 lakh have to pay 1/3rd of fees. James Thomson Scholarship: if AIR<=300. Campus Life :

The popular fests:(student-run). Thomso: The month of October, it's the annual cultural fest. Celebrities and musicians are invited and concerts are held. Cognizance: Second largest tech fest in Asia organized in IITR in March. Sangram: official sports fest of IITR. Inter IITs: in the month of December 23 IITs gather together to compete. Sports: One can get regular practice by joining NSO, we have a swimming pool, football, hockey. gyms, basketball, tennis, squash courts. The campus houses a three-story library called MGCL. It has more than 3,20,000 documents. Classrooms are digitalized and air-conditioned. The CultSoc consists of the Dramatics Section, Choreography and Dance Section, Music Section, Cinematics, Quizzing, Debating Society, Kshitij Magazine Audio and Light Section, Stand-up Section, UBA, CRY, and more. Other campus groups include SDS Labs, IMG, MDG, PAG, INFOSEC, QAGAAR, DSG, Spic-Macay.IITR Motorsports, Robocon E-Cell, Design Studio, Fine -Arts, and so many more.

Hostel Facilities :

There are two girl's hostels for B.Tech girls, Sarojini and Kasturba Bhawan, Freshers stay in Sarojini. The mess is likeable and desserts are the favorites. There are a fruit stall and a salon inside the hostel. There is a TV room, a small cyber and reading room. A gym, a stationery shop, a day and night canteen, one open when the other is closed, and a laundry room. There is an ungodly fast LAN in every room. An app called Appetiser developed by students hosts the menu weekly and once can always skip meals beforehand and retrieve the cost of the food. The hostel+ mess fees cost approximately 18,000 per semester. The registration is simple, all IITR students are eligible to opt for a hostel room.

Interview Experience :

To get into IIT, you need to appear for the JEE (Main) examination. It is conducted by NTA, twice a year, generally in Jan and April. It's usually MCQS with some numerically based questions. It has three subjects-Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with equal weightage to each subject. You then appear for JEE Advance, given you pass JEE mains. It's a computer-based exam and one can appear only twice. To pass advance, you need to have a minimum of 10% marks in each subject and 35% in aggregate, you will then given an All India Rank. Then you will have to take part in the joint seat allocation process by JoSAA. To be eligible to write these exams is pass class 12th or equivalent examination with at least 75% marks.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Btech is one of the best degree now a days but the specialization which may act a major role in placement is not good enough in college. Exams are not that tough but you have to self study for the placement as the study of college is far different for the placement

Placements here are much better than any other reputed colleges and it provides campus placement with an average of 4 lakhs per annum. It's having a very high rate of placements in here and having a greater opportunity to purse a further masters degree.

Placement Experience:

Students become eligible after the 5th semester to be able to apply for college placements. 5-6 companies visit every year for college placements but most companies don't offer good jobs. Around 75% of the students get placements from college campuses. My plans are to apply to big companies like Google or Amazon via gate exam or MTech.

Remarks:

Extracurricular activities in our college are not too good because there is no badminton court. Only a ground to play football and cricket as well, and a ground for basketball and one for volleyball. Sports events are organised by the students itself and to participate there is the entry fee.
