Remarks :
The college has good reputation in terms of academic standards and placements. But it needs to improve in other areas as well like extra curricular business and industrial exposure for students etc.
Entrance Preview :
I took Gate 2013 air 2000,IIIT-H PGEE exam I opted for the college because I knew it had great fame in terms of academic environment, coding culture, excellent placements and high cutoff marks for entrance. Out of 20,000 people who wrote its entrance exam around 300 were selected for M.Tech program in different streams.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Course curriculum is research as well as industry oriented. The institute has many research departments like CSTAR,CVIT etc. Each research department provides department related courses. Also there are many technology industry oriented courses as well which are taught by some of industry veterans who are visiting faculty. For e.g Machine learning taught by a scientist from Google,Distributed systems taught by a lead engineer from MapR,Web mining taught by researcher from Microsoft etc. Some of good research related courses are Information retrieval,Cloud computing,Principles of information security,Data mining,Advanced Database systems,Quantum computing,Internals of application servers etc.
Internships Opportunities :
The college doesn't approve of 6 months winter internship but it allows students to do summer internship at companies or other universities. The college doesn't provide assistance in getting internships at companies but professors can give recommendation to do summer projects at abroad universities. If students can't get internship they still can do summer project under guidance of professors.
Placement Experience :
The placements are good. For 2015 average CTC for B.Tech CS was 15 and M.Tech CS was 12 lpa excluding off shore offers.
College Events :
The institute has yearly cultural techno management fest called Felicity. The fest is decent but not very grand like ones at IITs. Also not many celebrities come to it. Students organize contests like painting, dance, singing, rock band, techno, gaming etc. Overall the fest is like average college not much to expect.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fees is a little on higher side compared to other private colleges. The fees for M.Tech was around 1.8 lac per year which included hostel, mess, tution fees misc. Most of the fees is tuition fees which is required to support ongoing research and salary of faculty.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The college doesn't provide any loan facility directly. Although some students can take load at some interest from alumni.
Campus Life :
Campus life is totally academic oriented. Sometimes it feels little dull. Sometimes cultural events happen at campus like Classical music or dance night,Stage plays,Art exhibition etc. There is a music room, football ground, basketball court, cricket ground, badminton and TT court in campus. First year B.Tech students have morning PTs compulsory. Also there are yoga sessions and human value classes as part of curriculum for B.Techs. Gender ration is good. Girl to Boy ratio is around 1:3. There is also yearly R&D showcase which is flagship event of college where research progress is exhibited for outside public. There are contests organized by companies like Microsoft,Directi etc from time to time.
Alumni/Alumna :
The college has a alumni group and maintains record of all alumni of the institute, There is alumni meet at different cities from time to time. The alumni help in informing about new job opportunities referring and assisting students for job openings. The seniors are helpful and some of them become teaching assistants of courses. They take tutorials, collect assignments, mediate between professors and students etc.
Exam Structure :
The exams are in format of two mid-sem and one end semester exam. Labs were conducted every week but it was optional to sit in the lab. The lab task could be completed at room also but had to be submitted the same day. Most of the courses had big weightage of hands on project work. The work had to be presented in final term and the grades were made from class test, assignments, attendance ,exams and project work. The daily routine was very hectic with lot of assignments, project work etc. Only the students who enjoyed studying and could cope with work load could manage their activities.
