Remarks :

Being a government-run body the rules and regulations are very strict. Also, a bureaucratic culture is followed in the college with each department having its Head followed by Dean for different things such as Student Affairs, Academic, etc. followed by the Director at the top. The college has a Senate that determines rules and regulations for college admission and other activities.

Entrance Preview :

For Ph.D. admission in SOM (School of Management), there is a research proposal that is required along with a form and profile. Once shortlisted the student appears for a 30-min exam which is on a similar pattern as CAT with questions comprising of logic reasoning, data interpretation, quantitative aptitude, and English.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The Ph.D. course is divided into two parts Course Work Research work. The course work generally runs for two semesters where the minimum credit requirement needs to be completed. Post this Ph.D. registration is completed and research work starts. Credit requirement varies from department to department and is dependent on the eligibility criteria of the student. Students post-Bachelors have higher credit requirements while those with Masters degrees have lesser.

Internships Opportunities :

There is no internship requirement for the Ph.D. course. However, the students are free to take up projects outside campus or consulting assignments if they think it will be manageable.

Placement Experience :

The placement committee works for the Ph.D. placements. Apart from corporate placements where research profiles or policy formulation are offered the committee also brings up an opportunity for teaching. Several students join as Asst Professor in different colleges of repute including some of the newer IIMs and IITs.

College Events :

The college has several events that are conducted throughout the year. IIT organizes India's largest cultural fest Mood Indigo in December. The three-day affair the fest sees a huge number of participants from different parts of India. Apart from Mood Indigo the cultural committee also conducts Kavi Sammelan, Theater Festival, and many more. Likewise, the sports committee organizes. Cyclotron, Chess, Tennis, Cricket, Swimming, Badminton, and many other sports events.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

For Ph.D. there are several categories of students Teaching Assistant Self Finance External. If the student is given the responsibility of assisting a college faculty, she receives a stipend from the government of Rs 30000 per month and above. In this case, the tuition fees are Rs 50000-60000 per year. In case the student doesn't have any assistant responsibility, he, she does not receive any stipend. In this case, the tuition fees are Rs 10000-15000 per year.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Loans are available from all the major banks. However, the Ph.D. students are given a monthly stipend depending on their year of course affiliation, etc. Thus there is generally no requirement for a loan.

Campus Life :

In Ph.D. gender ratio is very healthy. As far as campus life is considered the entire campus is alive 24x7. Several parties are organized including DJ parties etc in all the 16 hostels. The campus is also home to the swimming pool, cricket, football grounds, hockey ground, indoor games, a television in a common room in each hostel.

Hostel Facilities :

IIT campus is home to around 16 hostels. Ph.D. students have the option to opt for on-campus residence or they can make their own arrangements outside the campus. For on-campus residency, the students have to share room twin sharing in the first year of the course. Post completion of 1 year, each Ph.D. student is allotted single rooms. Each hostel has its own mess and a separate canteen along with 4-5 common canteens on the campus. Breakfast is decent however the quality deteriorates for lunch and dinner.

Alumni/Alumna :

The college has an Alumni Relationship Committee which conducts several meetups for the Alumni network. The alumni participate actively in college activities and also help the students with research, consulting assignments, and many more.

Exam Structure :

Exams are conducted only during the course work period. Once the course work is over there are no exams conducted. However, the research scholars are required to present their Annual Progress Seminar a presentation which details the progress of work carried out by the student every year. A minimum of 3 APSes is required before one can submit a Thesis. During coursework, each subject has a quiz, midterm, and end term. The mid-term and end-term examinations can be replaced by assignments or research papers or case presentations. However, this is solely dependent on the subject of faculty.

Faculty :

The faculty of the college are highly qualified. Qualification wise they are all Ph.D. or Post-Doc with over 10-15 research publications to their credit along with several books. The faculty are research-oriented and each of the faculty mentors around 6-8 Ph.D. students on average.
