Good place to learn and acquire skills and Fastest growing in the region

Remarks :

The college is a newly established college by the DTE and Maharashtra State Government. Overall, it is a good college looking at the fee structure and the facilities it offers. I can recommend learning in the college. Year by year, the college seems to make exponential progress with the campus infrastructure, the labs and the quality of academics and I the college has potential to compete with best colleges in Maharashtra.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Since Government College of Engineering is a new college started in 2016, it is not autonomous and hence it follows the Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) for the course curriculum and exams. Yes, the distribution of subjects for each semester is research driven and fair and it is very much familiar with the reputed engineering colleges. If followed properly, the course is groomed to provide industry-specific knowledge to the students, that?d be helpful in securing on-campus placements. Also the exam structure is more rational and professional. The students are exposed to the engineering colleges all over the Nagpur and not just within college competition like the other autonomous colleges. GCOEN has 5 branches: Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Several guest lectures, workshops, seminars and industrial visits are conducted and organised throughout the academic year for extra curricular and technical skill imparting.

Placement Experience :

GCOEN has a Training and Placement Cell which is headed by Dr Athaole. In its Pioneer batch, GCOEN witnessed the placement of about 50-60% students from all the branches with the highest package offered being 8 LPA for a CSE student. Average package was 3. 5-4 LPA. Top recruiters being TCS, Capegemini, Infosys, Cognizant. Since the placement drives went south for core branches because mostly IT companies conducted the recruitment drive. The TPO cell of the institute is very helpful under whom 90% of the students completed at least one training or internship from a wide range of industries.

College Events :

Other than academics, the college has various hobby clubs like the music club, dance club, robotics club, photography club, etc. Various cultural activities are organised throughout the year like Garba, Shivjayanti, Ganeshotsav, etc. GCOEN also boasts of National level technical symposium for techfest namely ADHYAYA and an annual cultural fest ORANZ. All the organisation is looked after by the students. Fundings and sponsorships are also gathered by students and all these extra curricular activities are celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. A sports week is also observed in the college with a variety of sports to choose from like Kabaddi, Footsal, Cricket, Badminton, Volleyball, Chess, carrom, etc. Gymkhana is the body accountable for this category.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The factor that impresses me the most is the fee structure of GCOEN. For General category, the fee is approx INR 25000 and for other categories it is INR 12000. You also have to pay additional INR 2500 in the name of exam fees per semester. I am an OBC category student so I end up spending INR 17000 as fees annualy and I get around INR 4000 back into my bank account as scholarship. The fees structure is vaule for money for the engineering they provide. Yes it is under development with respect to infrastructure but it is improving at a great pace. Laboratories are being setup. Could engineering be more affordable in comparison with other regional colleges? No! The mode of payments accepted by the college is strictly POS, UPI or online payment via the college website to promote the cashless scheme. The money we pay is backed by receipts making the process transparent and letting us analyze the fee break down. No hidden charges in any of the department at GCOEN.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I never opted for any type of educational loan but I do fill the scholarship form and avail it annually under the DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) Scheme of Maharashtra Government. The college administration encourages students to apply for scholarship schemes. Yes, to avail the scholarship schemes one needs to clear the eligibility criteria and the eligibility can be checked on the official portal of DBT. Best to my knowledge, all the students except the TWS (Tution Fee Waiver) quota and General category can avail the scholarship.

Campus Life :

In my batch (Electrical Engineering), there is exactly as many number of boys as to girls. I cannot say other about sexual orientation but there is no such discrimination in terms of this parameter. The students are friendly and have a good sense and awareness when it comes to show the tolerance with respect to gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, politics and economic status. There are freshers and farewell parties independently hosted by students where each and every gender shows equal participation and the environment at GCOEN is friendly with students accepting cultural and other diversities.

Alumni/Alumna :

I have had a limited network with seniors, and with the ones I interacted with, I never had any negative experience. They are helpful and polite. They are supportive and worth the interaction. However, everyone in the seniors is entitled to their own behavior so it cannot be generalized. But mostly, they are helpful.

Admission :

After my 10th standard, I got into the science stream due to my interests. I had a keen interest in science since my middle school and so I chose to prepare for JEE alongside HSC with a bifocal course Electronics. Till then it was justified that I shall become an engineer and I studied in accordance with it. After giving the MHT CET and securing 105 marks, I researched a lot about which college to take what course to take and what branch to take and found that with the marks I got and looking all the parameters, GCOE, Nagpur is the ideal college for me. After the CAP rounds, I was allotted the same college, as expected, and the Electrical branch. I chose to Freeze my seat after having a word with my parents and mentors. Factors that led me to choose this college were the economical fee structure (around INR 12000 per year for OBC Category), the location (same as my home town), the presence of budding MIHAN of Nagpur around the campus and most importantly the tag of a Government institute.

Faculty :

GCOEN is a prestigious government institute, most of the professors and assistant professors are PhD holders or the merits from civil services examination. The visiting faculty (mostly teaches the first and second year) maybe graduates and are mostly in the age group 25-35. The senior faculties teach the higher semesters and they seem to have the expertise in their subjects. Yes the college website offers the option to check for the educational qualifications of the faculty and the lecturers seem to hold industry-experience certifications. The HODs of all the departments are appointed from the other old government colleges in Maharashtra so they have the relevant experience. Respected Principal Sir is also great with his qualifications and oratory skills. The average age for the faculty combining the HODs and visiting faculties should be around 35. Despite the fact that everyone is well qualified on paper, the faculties sometimes lack the ability (not the same case for all) to explain students in a easier ways. A point I am trying to make here is not every scholar has got teaching skills to transfer his wisdom to others. So no doubt they are well learned but the concern is same in few cases in the teaching department. Mixed experiences guaranteed.
