Remarks :
The college is very academic and research focussed and because of this the academic life in the college suffers at times because of this the college has a very good course structure and opportunities for those who can take advantage of it and is among the top colleges in country when it comes to computer science.
Entrance Preview :
JEE Mains 273, JEE Advanced 173, BITSAT 350 i was really interested in computer science and decided to study computer science as a major in my college and IIIT Hyderabad offered one of the best computer science oriented programs in the country.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course is focussed on Computer Science and the curriculum is structured around it .Unlike other colleges where computer science courses contain useless courses like engineering drawing and chemistry IIIT has structured its course around computer science as a major and its applications is different areas allowing students to get an insight in the research perspectives of the branch which are absent in most of the colleges in India including the top level IIT's.
Internships Opportunities :
Many companies come to the college for internships and including the much awaited Google MTV and Facebook Seattle. Many Indian companies also visit the campus including Flipkart, Google India, Facebook India, Amazon, Cisco etc the offshore companies offered stipends in the much higher ranges of about 2-5 Lac per month whereas the domestic companies offered stipends of about 26k-90k per month.
Placement Experience :
The college sees 100% placement in both computer Science and Electronics and Communication engineering the two major branches in the college the highest onshore package offered was 25 Lac and and an average salary of 15 Lac for Computer Science also this does not include about 15-20 people offered offshore placements in Google MTV and other Google offices at about 1.5 Cr per annum an Various Facebook and Amazon offices at 1.5 Cr per annum.
College Events :
The college has two major cultural events the freshers for the new coming freshers to participate in and get introduced to the college life felicity is the main college cultural fest and involves the whole college celebrating and having fun at various events. The college also has an intra college music festival called november Jam and a sports day. The college hosts the technical fest with felicity which includes codecraft a competitive programming contest and Gordian knot a mathematics oriented contes.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee is pretty feasible where most colleges are charging 2 to 2.5 Lacs per semester IIIT only charges about 1.25 Lac per semester including tuition and mess fee. The college hardly has any other expenses they charge from students and the charges for the books are returned to students at the end of their college education.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The college in collaboration with telangana state government offers scholarship to students whose families having net income less than 1 lakh per annum.
Campus Life :
The college has a very low female to male ratio of about 1:5 the college hosts a multitude of clubs but leaves it up to the students to take part and carry them forward. The college has had no instances of racial or ethnic discrimination in my time in the college and is very tolerant of all people and their beliefs and nature.
Hostel Facilities :
The students are given sharing rooms for the first 2 years and the rooms are pretty spacious and comfortable the rooms don't have air conditioning and don' t require any such facility for most of the year as Hyderabad has cool and humid weather most of the year. The college has four messes to choose from offering different types of food all of which are hygenic and edible.
Alumni/Alumna :
The seniors are a helpful bunch of people who stand as idols for the juniors guiding them on how to progress and helping them accomplish their goals. The college is relatively small in size and is a tightly knit community and because of this the alumni network is small and spread far apart but they are helpful whenever possible.
Exam Structure :
Each semester involves 3 exams 2 mid semester exams and 1 final which are separated by a month.First year is pretty hectic with a lot of labs and classes everyday from 8:30am to 5pm but the 2nd and 3rd year are pretty relaxed and allow students to focus on their personal goals.
Faculty :
The faculty of the college is adept in their subjects and the college boasts of most of the faculty having obtained their PHD from ivy league colleges. The professors are masters at their craft and promote students to pursue their subjects further if they wish to do so in research perspectives.
