Remarks :
The college is doing its bit in ensuring proper growth and taking care of the students while providing them with a better lifestyle and keeping them engaged and motivated to fulfill their goals. The management is also good and keeps everything up to date.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The learning is totally industry-centric. There are ample of guest lectures and seminars included in the curriculum. The department of management studies has its own 2-day guest lectures fests 'Inacon' and 'Prabandhan'. There are timely industry visits for the students to experience the in-depth functioning of those industries. The college also motivates students to complete online certifications which proves to be very helpful in securing placements. The students are also made to interact with NIT's strong alumni base so as to get a better knowledge about corporate life. The course curriculum is a perfect blend of theoretical and practical knowledge. It follows a trimester pattern and there is one cycle test and one final test in a trimester along with various assignments and presentations.
Placement Experience :
The placement is pretty good for the department and it keeps on getting better each year. The college also provides more than enough opportunities for internships too. Some of the companies who come for internships also provide stipend and pre- placement offers. I have also secured an internship in 'future group' from the college. There are companies for placements such as Deloitte, Royal Enfield, Oppo, Standard Chartered, South Indian Bank, HDFC bank, Federal Bank,Wipro, Infosys, TCS to name a few. There are ample opportunities for every domain and the profile these companies offer are also decent. The recruitment drive process depends upon the concerned company but the most common method is aptitude test followed by a GD and finally, the personal interview. Almost 95% of students are placed every year. Most of the students who are not placed are those who are not registered for placements or those who opt for higher studies. The college also takes step to groom students for placements with the help of drives like CPC (campus placement coaching).
College Events :
You can see a festival or event being organized in the campus every other week. Some of the well known annual fests are Pragyan, which is ISO certified and Festember. There's also a fest called Nisadya organized and coordinated by the MBA department. Every department has its own fests too in which everyone from NIT is welcome. Many of these fests have a national as well as international participation too. There fests contain everything from food stalls, celebrity DJ nights, Events, Competition, etc, and students from all over the country turn out for these fests. Thus, the crowd is also great.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
58000 per semester has to be paid as course fee for MBA. 8000 extra is to be paid during admissions. The fees can be paid online through SBI e-collect and also can be paid at the counter through cash, cheque and credit/debit cards. The college provides total transparency in the fee breakup. I would say that the fee structure is totally feasible. In fact, it is one of the best MBA in the country in terms of Return on Investment (ROI).
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I have not opted for a loan or scholarship myself but its a very easy and hassle free process to get an education loan in the name of NIT from any bank, anywhere. The campus also has its own SBI branch to make the process much easier by granting on spot education loans. The college itself doesn't give any scholarships but as it is a central institute the scholarships can directly be availed from the central government.
Campus Life :
Campus life is very chilled out. Its an 800-acre lush green campus which hosts every possible facility including a sports complex, gym, swimming pool, central library and libraries in every department, shopping mall, its very own Café Coffee Day and many food stalls within the campus. There are more than enough opportunities for every extracurricular activities one can think of such as sports, debate, quizzes, robotics, programming, etc. The college has its own cricket ground, football ground, lawn tennis lounge, basketball court, hockey turf, badminton court and an indoor sports complex too. Girls to boys gender ratio of the department may be somewhere around 2:3. There is a no tolerance policy in case of any kind of discrimination. It is a fully central government funded institute.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes. There are 21 boys hostels as well as 8 girls hostel in the campus. Regarding MBA, In the first year, students get twin sharing rooms and In the second year, they get single rooms. The rooms are well equipped with every necessary amenity such as wardrobes, table and chair, fans, lights, bed. The cleanliness of the hostels are also up to the mark. Washing machines are also installed in every wing of the hostels. There are 8 mess services in the campus providing quality food. You can register for the mess of your choice such as 'North Indian - Veg', 'South Indian - Non Veg', etc.
Alumni/Alumna :
The department as well as NIT as a whole has a very strong alumni base. The seniors are also very helpful and are available whenever you need any kind of help. When I first joined the college, the seniors welcomed us in a very warm way. It felt like a welcome party in the department.
Admission :
I made up my mind to go for an MBA to groom up my personal and professional skills. I appeared for the Common Admission Test (CAT), 2018 where I scored 82.4 percentile. Then I filled the online application form for NIT, Trichy. The form is our somewhere in the month of January. Then I got a call for GD and PI around March end. I went through the GD and PI process in Delhi. It is conducted in Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Trichy itself. The merit list is generated according to your GD and PI performance and CAT percentile. There are around 120 seats including all the specializations.
Faculty :
There are almost 12 to 15 lecturers in the course. There are lecturers for almost every specialization. Some subjects are taken by guest lecturers who are industry professionals from the related field. The average age of lecturers will be somewhere around 40. The lecturers are all PHDs and many of them have their journals published time to time. They try to provide proper clarity from their end but their accent of English may create a bit of difficulties for the students coming outside of Tamil Nadu, as Tamil is the mother tongue of most of the faculties, they have a bit of Tamil tone in their English.
