My Disappointments with College Education

Remarks :

I did not find my college constructive. Most of the time was wasted and energy was spent in tacklimg college politics.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course Curriculum and its purpose is very vague in tech department. I believe there is no in depth knowledge provided in any area in Tech Department. A little bit of marketing, a little bit of technology, it's not helping anyone achieve a mastery. A graduate in FTech cannot compete with an MBa studennt, cannot compete with a Btech Student.

Placement Experience :

Placement because of the brand of NIFT I believe is average. However today I see most of my classmates struggling to make ends meet or have started pursuing MBA or any other post graduate degree because they realised that a job with just an undergrad degree from NIFt will not land them anywhere.

College Events :

There were several events in NIFT. All major festivals were celebrated in the college campus. Apart from that there was the annual college fest called Spectrum. There was Dandia Night too. Apart from that different communities of the college had different programs, literary, cultural or sports etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Fee Structure at NIFt is very expensive. At my time it was roughly 90,000 per semester and increased ten percent every semester. There were a total of 8 semesters. And apart from that the study materials would make even bigger holes in your pocket. The students were strained by the expenses they had to bear.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I did not apply for scholarship. There was student loan available for students but I did not avail it.

Campus Life :

Campus Life was undoubtedly fun. There wasn't much academic pressure on students. So there was good time to explore the city, surroundings which also had a negative impact though. Most of the students indulged in debauchery. Most of them became addicts.

Hostel Facilities :

No. But I had friends in hostels. Hostels had adequate facilities. They were buildings taken on lease by the college till they build their own. They had AC and Non Ac rooms. The prices varied obviously.

Alumni/Alumna :

Not really. The alumni network is real bad. The alumni were visible only when the freshers arrived. They enjoyed ragging but their career path was disappointing and disheartening.

Admission :

Entrance Exam as mentioned. The enrollment forms come out in the month of November. Then we have entrance exams in the month of February. I scored AIR 20. There are two kinds of exams in NIFT, one is for design students and the other for tech. For design students they have three levels of tests. For Tech it's only one.

Faculty :

I found very few faculties who actually had a good command over their respective subjects. The others were just managing somehow. The Mumbai Branch of NIFT was full of inadequate faculty during my years of studying. They lacked in depth knowledge of the subject, they lacked the will to impart knowledge.

Course Curriculum Overview:

They start with very beginner thing so you get to learn right form the start. The connection in between is very understanding. There's nothing as such to improve everything is being set properly according to the industry. They also prepares you for the real world by giving some collaborative class room projects. The exams are being taken in 3 parts midterms, end terms and final juries. The duration between them is fair as well.

The placements are great. We are located in a corporate area which makes companies very accessible to the students of our college. We have companies like gucci, google, mondelez, dr. reddys and many more such companies coming to our college not just for placements but also for internships.

Placement Experience:

Students are required to undergo observerships and apprenticeships from the first year itself. Many companies arrive on campus every summer to conduct these hires, such as Deloitte, Landor, Tata, Kohler, Havells, Adobe, Google, etc. The recorded overall placement success rate was 92%. The highest recorded international package stood at 1.2 CR per annum, offered by Google. The average package was recorded at 11 LPA. Students are required to undergo a capstone project in their final year.

Placement Experience:

We will only know about the campus placements and packages offered this year as this is the first time a batch is graduating from this campus. The average package as we've heard is 8 lakhs per annum. The Pune campus is older and it's said to have good placements as well so the same is expected here as well.

Placement Experience:

The placements are decent. As mentioned, they bring in corporate companies rather than design studios, so it is a given that you get a good salary. The placements department coordinates through email and you have to do tasks and interviews until finally get the job. A lot of students apply on their own too though.

Placement Experience:

Once you passed your 7th semester then you are eligible for campus placement. For campus placement your academic score should be good your attendance should be up to the mark and you have to participate in other social activities. Some government job is also provided for you. There are so many companies who visit NIFT every year companies like Raymond, Siyaram, Arvind mills visit there. Even you can take a job in Amazon, Flipkart, Zabong and on so many digital platforms. Even you can start your own website or if you are rich enough then you can open your own company. Almost 90% of students got campus placement as you are studying in one of the best colleges in India. My plan is to open my own website and work for it.
