Remarks :
Overall the experience was good. And it met the criteria to earn the degree
Course Curriculum Overview :
When we studied, the concept of campus placements was not popular. Students were given more of theoretical knowledge than industrial experience. Hardly there were any industrial visits. Being in the civil engineering domain, only in the final we got to visit some sites for surveying and construction related work.
Placement Experience :
Back in 1985 there was hardly any concept of campus placements. All the placements happened only outside the campus by following a process of application, written test and interview.
College Events :
Tec fest was a very popular cultural event in our college conducted annually. There used to be talent competition, and other entertainment events like dancing singing playing instruments etc. Also there used to be an annual sports meet It had all varieties of sports events.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Back in those days, the concept of paying and securing admission was not heard of. These type.of professional courses were meant only for students who used to be way above average. We used to pay a fee of around 1200 rs for a semester. As a student, I never had access to any financial accounts and we never expected any kind of transparency from the college.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I never got any scholarships. The college gave scholarships only for the economically poor students.
Campus Life :
Without any advanced technologies we really had a great fun on campus. Gender wise there were always men at least 2 times more than female. It also depends on the specialization. Like in civil there were several girls but in Mechanical there was only 1 girl. Not too many workshops. The basic requirement needed to get the degree was offered.
Hostel Facilities :
No I was a day student but I have visited the girls hostel rooms. It was only a sharing accommodation and there was no option of individual rooms. There used to be 3 girls sharing in a 400 sqft room.
Alumni/Alumna :
Now we have our batch WhatsApp group and we often discuss about various issues and topics. We really enjoy chatting.
Admission :
One of the reputed colleges in Tamilnadu. Reputed for civil engg. I scored 94 % in aggregate and 199 out of 200 in Math. Interviewed by a board of members and got selected. I opted for this course because Engineering was one.of most sought after courses.
Faculty :
Every semester we used to have 6 theory subjects and 2 laboratory classes. None of the lectures was having any industrial work experience. We had highly qualified lectures but without any considerable work experience. The lecturers only had presented some thesis papers at the maximum.
