Remarks :
All in all. management is a mixed breed here. In some cases they'll go over the edge to help you out and in others they might get on your nerves really bad. Haven't really had a experience in which I had to go thourough a lot of trouble yet. So, for me the management gets a plus point.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The curriculum for the course I've optedfor is quite simple. We design and make ships. So, they teach you all the things there is to know about that in the BTech programme. For research purposes you need to enroll in Mtech or PhD in the same department. I won't say that the placement in my industry is exactly booming. But, most of the students who wish to pursuit career in the core field get placed, thanks to the college and alumni network.
Placement Experience :
Wehave a wide range of companies visiting our campus for both placements and insternships. All the pre final year student can apply for internship thourough the CDC(Career Development Center) and final year students for placements. CDC is it the body responsible for taking into account the total number of placements and internships in an academic year. We have a compulsory internship in the prefinal year which holds some credit in the performance card. Our institute helps students develop their technical and soft skills to make sure he or she is able the to clear the interview with making the interviewer speechless(I know I exaggerated). But, management does put effort in getting you placed in a company of your choice. All you need to do is give your best.
College Events :
Being a college in West Bengal, people here are really excited about Durga Puja. Apart from that we celebrate Diwali with an event called illumination. In which all the students from a hostel put in their efforts to make a scenery on a bamboo net(chatai) with diyas. We also have rangoli competitions on the same day. Some students are really talented in that. If someone is reading this, I would like you to visit the campus once for a Diwali outing, you won't regret it. Rest I've mentioned in the campus life section below.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Being a government college, the fee burden is quite less. With annual fees of 1.7 lacs(Tuition and hostel with mess charges) it is probably the cheapest in the country. During seat acceptance you need to deposit some amount which is later adjusted in the college fees. You get complete insight on the fee breakdown.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I didn't go for and loan or scholarship. But, one can easily get a student loan from the banks which visit the campus during admissions. The procudure is quite simple and one can get debriefed on the spot easily. For scholarship programs, we have lot of them. All you need to do is fulfill the criteria for the desired scholarship and just submit the documents.
Campus Life :
The campus life is really diverse. From academics to social and cultural events, students can indulge themselves in various events. We have techno-management fest Kshitij, Social and cultural fest Spring fest, Global entrepreneurship Summit, Alumni meets and other events as well. All these activities are managed and organised by the 3rd year students, from the ground up to the top. The gender ratio is one thing that lets you down, we have aa drastic difference in number of girls and boys, on an average the gender ratio is around 1:10(1 girl for 10 boys, duh.). We also have inter hall competitions for sports, tech, and social and cultural, involving exciting events like, product designing, musical events, athletics, water polo etc. Our halls compete for the General Championship trophy in every fields. We also have different societies for students with different interests. We have debating society, robotics society, musical society and others too. Just name it and we have it. We recently started anime and game development societies as well. To keep this short, I'd like to quote one of my senior, "IIT Kgp is a blessing in disguise".
Hostel Facilities :
Yes. We have ample of hostels with sufficient accomodation for all students, ug, pg, PhD. And as I said the unter hall competitions have a different aura all together. Sorry for keeping it too short, my phone's about to die.
Alumni/Alumna :
Yeah, the alumni and senior students are really helpfull. While alumnis can help you thourough the development of your respective halls and getting you an internship/placements. Seniors help you out with the academics, teachers' feedback, extra curricular activities and other things.
Admission :
Everyone knows about the overhyped JEE mains and JEE Advanced for pursuing engineering in India from a government college. And if you don't, in simple language, around 10lac students appear for the exam every year and 1% out of them get selected in the collegesall over the nation. The mains paper is held in the month of December and April (The one in December was announced recently), and the advance paper is held in the month of May. Once you clear both of the exams, you need to fill the college and course preference list, and once you are alloted the seat, you need to visit the nearest IIT(if you got an IIT) or NIT(If you got a seat in any NIT) and accept the seat by getting the documents verified. After this all you need to do is get your bags packed and book your tickets to start your college life.
Faculty :
Over the past thouree years, I've come across various labs, subjects and faculty. On an average a student of any year has 25 hours of classes in a week. It is a mix of 3-6 subjest and 1-3 labs. Depending on the year and course. My course is completely industry driven, the professors are enthusiastic about the subject and provide an in-depth knowledge about the specific course. We have faculties who are 30-45 yo as of now. All of them have really good qualifications. And, they are really helpful as you well. One can also contact them for different projects if he or she is interested in one.
