Remarks :
Lots of Freedom. Depends on the student to use it wisely. The college does not have intime, hence people can roam around anywhere nearly any time. This increases the safely issue. Also, due to too much feeedom, students end up in substanxe abuse quite often. It is upto the student to wisely go about the utilise the freedom to build good skill sets and interact.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course consist of primarily subjects from architecture like Design,Building Materials, Estimation etc and subjects from other departments like Electrical Services, Stuctural Analysis, Mathematics, Economics etc. The course as a whole has the most workload compared to other engineering courses. With aorund 32 working hours per semester, it gives a true expression of an Architect's Job. The department also offers research programs in which students cam take part and work under professors and scholars. Exams are conducted twice per semester. For students of Architecture, however, submissions happen on a weekly basis.
Placement Experience :
IIT Kharagpur have campus placements which happen around the month of december every year. Students can opt for both core and non core jobs. The Prominent companies which made large number of recruitments at IIT Kharagpur are Google, Flipkart, JP Morgan, Tata Steel, Microsoft, Apple, Intel, Barclays GSC, OYO and Capgemini among others. The course requires a mandatory six month internship in the seventh semeter. This helps the students to get authentic work experience.
College Events :
Spring Fest : Asia's second Largest Cultural Festival. Has huge amount of footfall. Spaned across 4 days, with fest os a culmination of skills and enjoyment. Kshitij : Asia's largest Techno-Management Fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
100000 INR per semester is the fee. Economically week students get MCM Scholarship ( Merit cum mean scholarship) Without loans, the fees are a bit on the expensive side. Apart from this an additional of 35000 INR had to be paid per semester for accomodation and mess charges.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I have not idea about loans but the college gives scholarship on merit cum mean basis. Annual income of less than 5LPA get their tution fee waived off. Every semester a list is made with the selected students who can opt for it.
Campus Life :
The college offers with wide variety of extra curriculars like music, film making, theatre, cooking, literary, Design etc. Gender ration is 100:14 for men :women. Hall days happen every March, where the host hostels/halls host parties for mates from other hall. The only time in the year where girls and enter boys hostel and vice versa. The campus is LGBTQ+ friendly, Ambar, an institution helps to promote awareness. Pride march is also organised every year.
Hostel Facilities :
Yes I have. I stay in a single room which is alloted to boarders on random basis. The rooms are compact and comfortable. Food is great with lot of varieties. All hostels have common rooms which usually has a TV, a TT table and Caron board. Apart from that, some hostels have Badminton court, cricket pitch and football ground too. Hostels also accomodate stationary shops, juice store and night canteen (open till 3AM) for some late night Maggi!
Alumni/Alumna :
Most of the hostels are alumni funded for renevation, hence the campus has a very packed alumni network. Alumni meet is also held every year. Seniora are helpful too. The guide us in every step, be it regarding extra curricular or Academics.
Admission :
I had genuine interest in Architecture, hence I went for it! Architecture in IITs have completely different procedure that joining the same course in other colleges around the country. The step by step instructions are as follows. Clear JEE MAINS PAPER 1 Clear JEE ADVANCED Appear and Pass Architecture Aptitude Test. Admission to the course is based on the JEE advanced all india rank.
Faculty :
IITs are known to have the best faculties in the country. All Faculties have PHD degrees from prestigious institution and have significant amount of working experience. The professors take much interested in teaching. Some are also alumnus of the same college.
