Remarks :

It is okay. But definitely there is huge scope of improvement. In many of the cases the management and the administration will only be better if the people working at the lower level be more efficient.

Entrance Preview :

I took IIT JEE + had to clear NATA and score the required marks in +2 examinations with Science subjects. I had an interest for studying Architecture. Getting the subject at a prestigious institution like Jadavpur was a great opportunity for me.

Course Curriculum Overview :

For Architectural studies in India in any institution the course structure is according to the Council of Architecture (CoA). Jadavpur University is no exception. The curriculum in my opinion was standard from the academic point of view. The theoretical parts were well taken care of. For the design studios I would say there is scope of improvement. It would have been great if the course could be completed in 4 years like the other engineering courses. At least the academic period should be over by that time and the professional training part can continue for the last year. the curriculum should be revised by removing the subjects that are not necessary any more for the profession and adding subjects keeping in mind the contemporary times. (B.Arch in India is a 5 year course - Thesis and Professional training are two things that makes the course one more year longer than the other engineering courses. In JU 4th year 1st semester i.e. 6 months is assigned for Professional training and 5th year 2nd semester is given for Thesis).

Internships Opportunities :

Yes it does to the Economically deprived students. Jadavpur University is one of the cheapest Universities in the World ( Definitely in Asia - might be the cheapest in Asia). As far i recall the fees was approximately INR 2450 per year.

Placement Experience :

Jadavpur University placements are one of the best in Bengal. Still I believe these is huge scope of improvement and the students deserve better. They definitely have the capability to work for the best companies in the world. Compared to other departments placement options and opportunities are much lesser. The department itself should aspire for better. But as a student I don't think one needs to be scared because the field is such that even without college placements one is able to find work quite easily (the financial part though when compared to the other departments of JU is mostly depressing but it will be sufficient and if one is capable he/she will definitely achieve a lot later in life but the path is generally not very smooth.)

College Events :

SANSKRITI it is the Durga Puja of JU. It is indeed one of the Best Cultural Fests in Bengal and is organised separately by Arts, Engineering and Science students. All are welcome to attend all three of them the festivity of Sanskriti organised by Faculty of Engineering and Technology Students' Union (FETSU) goes almost for ten days. Students' participation and performances are obviously encouraged. A treat for the Music lovers - you name any famous artist or band in India most of them has visited JU Open Air theater or the grounds!! Also there is SRIJAN the tech fest of JU and countless departmental freshers and farewells to crash in. Plus there are Arena cricket and Football matches and Freshers football as well. In addition to this for Architecture students there are study trips and zonasa nasa events to enjoy even more.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is definitely feasible and very nominal as mentioned earlier. It is approximately Rs. 2450 per year. Jadavpur University is one of the cheapest Universities in the World ( Definitely in Asia - might be the cheapest in Asia). Getting higher education from such a premier institution at this price is quite surprising I think.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I did not avail any but I know there are scholarships available for the needy and the deserving that can cover almost all the expenses.

Campus Life :

If we consider the Engineering faculty then the gender ratio will be very poor 95(male) : 5 (female) may be. But for Architecture it is generally 50:50 or 60(M):40(F). For the whole of the university I think it will be close to 60(M):40(F) There are variety of clubs for extracurricular activities e.g. photography, mountaineering, drama etc. and all the students are welcome. There are provisions for doing courses on foreign languages like French, German, Spanish and many more. If one is interested in extracurricular activities JU will not disappoint you most of the student population is Bengali as it is a state university in Bengal but students from all over India are welcome. Students from North East India and nearby states like Bihar, Odissa and Non Bengalees residing in Kolkata are quite frequent in the campus student Politics and Jadavpur University need I say more?? But if one is not interested then no one will force. The students here have a voice and they know how to make it heard.

Hostel Facilities :

I was a day scholar so I do not have much idea about this but the expenses are nominal for sure. Accommodation for girls is not sufficient as per my information. The rooms are to be shared. Sorry it is difficult to write 250 words on something you do not really know about.

Alumni/Alumna :

Be in any part of the world and if you are bound to find another JU student the bond is quite strong all the Departments have there own alumni association which are quite active and well connected. Also the university has its own Alumni Association but as it is not a fully residential university and has such a varied array of subjects it is not that easy to be connected to everyone now with Jadavpur University Alma connect the network is growing larger and stronger.

Exam Structure :

In Jadavpur University everything is quite chilled out!! Semester system is followed. In Architecture regular design submissions will be an addition with semester examinations, class tests and workshops/labs. They can become hectic but also fun many times if you like the subject. But even after all this if one does not manage to get time for relaxation (read LYAD) and to participate in many other activities other than studies then you are not a true Jadavpurian.

Admission :

I went for the Joint Entrance Counselling center. I had to be present there in person (year 2008). My JEE rank, choice of subject and college and availability of seat for that course at that college decided my fate. After I was allotted one seat for JU Architecture I could get the Admission form and other required documents at the kiosk for Jadavpur University which was there at the JEE counselling center. Other forms were later collected from the main campus admin building (Aurobindo Bhavan) or the Department of Architecture. I filled and submitted them as per instructions.

Faculty :

We had eight faculty members (2008-2013). While I am very fond of three of them the others I think should improve their teaching methods. Still whatever I learnt it is only for my teachers and I am grateful to them. We had a huge number of visiting faculty (Professional architects and Professors from other departments of Jadavpur University). Some of them are great and most of them are quite good. I think very few Architectural institutions give this opportunity of learning various subjects from professors/specialists of that particular field and Jadavpur University is one of them.

Placement Experience:

It is one of the only colleges where you get campus placement in architecture as well. The placements are decent with mostly architecture firms hiring but also some central government public sectors also come with higher pay packages. But mostly people do not study architecture thinking about placements, you need to apply outside to companies for better opportunities

Course Curriculum Overview:

couse curriculum could have been more practical based and professional, the syllabus feels more like a school syllabus than a professional study, I believe the syllabus must be revised and changes should be made as architecture itself defines Professionality.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The B.Arch course curriculum at IIT Kharagpur is very vast. Faculty:Student = 1:40 All faculties aka teachers have a very strong concreate knowledge about the subject, and their teaching method is top in the the country. Over a timespan of 4months, that is 1 Semester their are 2 class tests, 1 mid sem exam and finally 1 end sem exam. Its not that hard to pass the exam, all one needs is consistency.

Placement Experience:

Architecture dept. Doesn't give placements opportunities. Most of the students go for higher studies. So most of the companies don't come for placements. As for other engineering courses, the placement is top notch.
