Remarks :

Overall I can say that college is a great place to be. The college has a wide variety of extracurricular activities but it does well to make a student realize his true capabilities and excel in life.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The syllabus covers a wide variety of topics which are very much essential to a standard educational institution. It is well organized into semesters so that the student can balance the pressure. The special papers which I got were really good and one of my papers was Plasma Physics which is a hot topic.

Placement Experience :

Companies which have visited the campus include ICICI bank, Uniqlo, Microsoft etc. These companies select individuals based on their academic records for an interview or written test. After that, it is the student who puts in the effort to secure a job.

College Events :

The annual fest of the college is called Kaalrav and it is one of the biggest cultural events in colleges in North East India. A huge number of Institutions from Sikkim, Siliguri take part in the event. Besides this, the Management and Engineering departments hold their separate fest which is again a treat for the students.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

I studied M.Sc Physics at the college. The tuition fee is around 45k for two semesters which I feel is quite feasible for a private institution. There are no additional fee charges to be incurred. The tuition fee and if applicable the hostel fees is to be paid.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I did not opt for any scholarships but as far as my knowledge goes the college does offer scholarships to meritorious students.

Campus Life :

The gender ratio at SMIT is good. There is a sports complex called Marena which houses a wooden basketball court, a squash court, a restaurant and a swimming pool. Besides these many indoor games such as billiards, table tennis, chess etc are also available. I have enjoyed my life these two years.

Alumni/Alumna :

One of my seniors was very very helpful to me. I had expressed my desire of studying in the USA to him. He helped familiarize me with the pattern of the GRE and TOEFL exam and provided me with his notes. This was an immense help because I got exactly what I needed.

Admission :

I opted for this course because I passionate about the subject. My elder sister studied in this institution and passed out with flying colours. She is now well employed in a multinational company. The college is in a beautiful location amidst mountains and the Teesta river. This makes it an ideal place to study. Besides this expertise faculty are always there to guide you.

Faculty :

Each subject has its own requirement of lectures and the faculty at SMIT is committed to their profession. The teachers are very qualified individuals and echo that in their teaching. There is no gap between the students and teachers they treat us like their family.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since the most important aspect of our course is field Work, what can be better than experiencing field Works in the Himalayas. Himalayas are the best place to apply your theoritical knowledge to the field. Not only field living in Himalayas means every single second you are watching and learning something about Geology. Improvement can be done in increasing the numbers of field works, we go for 14days field training twice in the course.

From the final year, a student becomes eligible for campus placements. Companies like Microsoft, Wipro, byju's and a lot more recruit students for placements. The highest salary package is 900000 per annum whereas the average salary is 600000 per annum. On an average 80-90% students get placements.

The only thing I regret about my university is that it doesn't have a campus of its own. Doing any program in university finds a lack of coordination in the department. University is currently in the rented building spread throughout Gangtok city.
