IIT Mandi

My sister is an alumnus of IIT Mandi and her experience at IIT Mandi is what motivated me to write this answer.

  • IIT Nandi faculty is highly cooperative and you can approach the teachers almost any time of the day
  • Good projects are awarded to the students of IIT Mandi. This is a source of inspiration as you feel proud of contributing somehow.
  • IIT Mandi has been chosen as a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) among a few other IITs, under the Startup India campaign. This has strengthened the entrepreneurship culture at the institute.
  • The batch size of IIT Mandi is quite small in comparison to other engineering colleges. This provides more chances to participate and take up responsible roles.
  • Sports facilities at IIT Mandi include a functional cricket ground, football field, basketball court, and tennis court. Additionally, there is an indoor badminton court, a table tennis room, and a decent gym. IIT Mandi has a well-equipped mechanical lab that receives new inventory and machinery from time to time.
  • 24/7 Wi-Fi facilities

Cons

  • Owing to its remote location, IIT Mandi fails to retain good academic talent and maintains a consistent good curriculum.
  • Being new and also because of its location, IIT Mandi is still not recognized m by many companies for on-campus placements.

All in all, IIT Mandi has a very happening campus life that will leave you with millions of memories.

B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi

IIT Mandi offers an enjoyable college experience. The campus is small and beautiful. The north campus and south campus are separated by a mountain. If you like being in nature, you will certainly enjoy your time here.

The faculties are well-experienced and helpful. You can approach them, regarding any of your problems. The lab facilities and infrastructure and good enough to back up the course projects.

Under the Startup India campaign, IIT Mandi has been selected as one of the Technology Business Incubators. To encourage good startup ideas, the institute has set up initiatives such as Catalyst. This helps budding entrepreneurs with securing funds, offering in-house consultancy services, and giving access to necessary resources.

Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (2019)

My sister is a student of IIT Mandi. So, I can tell you about her experience of attending the institute.

  • Mandi is exceptionally beautiful. The first time we saw the campus, we were in awe. The construction of the campus is almost done. The speed of construction is quite impressive, considering the fact that it is such a remote place. The campus is separated into North Campus and South Campus by a mountain. It doesn’t get any cooler. The institute is taking the initiative to connect the two campuses. By bus, it only takes 5-10 minutes to reach one campus to another.
  • The actual city is somewhat 1 hour away from the campus. From where you will have to collect most of your supplies. There are two canteens and a cafe/restaurant of sorts inside the campus. If you get bored visiting the same spots, you can go to ‘The Treat’ which is a 5-10 mins walk from the campus gate. There is a stationery shop on campus, which will save you the trouble of traveling one hour for a pen or pencil.
  • The first thing that happens in the college is the Orientation week, where you get a brief idea of your journey in the institute and the campus. There are sports trials for different sports followed by the commencement of classes.
  • Classes are good, the faculty is a mix of experienced and intermediate types of professors. There are various club activities on campus.
  • Then the conventional engineering starts, quizzes, mid semesters, assignments, and end semesters which normally happens in November. November then has fests that are prepared during vacations like IIT Tech-Meet, which is a tech-fest hosted by IIT Mandi.
  • The courses are tough, especially in the end semester. You need to work hard to do well in academics. You will get very little sleep in your 4th year.

You have a mixed feeling staying in IIT Mandi. You will meet good people, make a few friends for life, and a lot more. Overall you can expect a life-changing experience.
