Is it worthwhile doing an MBA in UPES Dehradun?
Every B-school has its unique strengths and so does UPES Dehradun which is famous for its domain-specific MBA. If you are willing to pursue an MBA in oil and gas, power management, or energy trading, choosing UPES Dehradun will be the right decision. It offers a plethora of opportunities in these domains and the ROI is also great. There are some industry-specific courses too but their placements are just average.
The best part about UPES is the diversity of the crowd. You will get the chance to interact with people from various backgrounds such as law, management, engineering, and design thus enhancing the learning experience manifolds.
Ultimately, I will suggest you go for UPES Dehradun only if you are planning to pursue a domain-specific MBA, else you can go for better B Schools.
What happened on your first day at IIT?
I am an alumnus of IIT Ropar. I reached my classroom 15 minutes early, filled with enthusiasm for learning from some of the best professors in India.
All my enthusiasm and spirit died when I noticed how the professor was least interested in us. He simply neglected our presence, plugged his pen drive into his laptop, and started reading the presentation. I had hoped for a more interactive and passionate environment. This bitter experience was not limited to just one teacher, all the other professors were equally disinterested in interacting with their students and teaching them something new.
Not just IIT Ropar, this is the story of every college and every IIT. With time, the passion for engineering starts to die and the students learn to somehow survive each semester. Some students feel that their coaching teachers were far more enthusiastic than their professors.
This was my bitter experience during my first day at IIT which I decided to share with you.
What is an IIM interview like? If you have had an IIM interview, what is your profile, i.e. academic record, CAT percentile, etc.?
There are lots of students who appear for IIM interview and clear it with full confidence and potential. Here is one such example of a student who got admitted to IIM Ahmedabad. Below is her profile for your reference.

The interview goes for around 15 to 20 minutes and there are generally 2 interviewers to take your interview. Firstly, they ask you about yourself and try to know about your visions, perceptions, experience, and so on. They mainly ask you general questions related to your academics as well as your surrounding to analyze your presence of mind and knowledge regarding any specific subject.
They are interested to know about your capabilities, strengths, weaknesses, and where your opinions stand. Students are asked about the most recent hotly debated topics or issues to understand their grip over current affairs.
IIMs seek out positive people who are eager to learn and have a basic understanding of any situation. It is not necessary to be a master of everything, superb academics and extracurriculars in order to succeed, though grades are important. You simply need to demonstrate your ability to think to the interviewer.
Why is Amity University Gurugram the preferred choice amongst the students and parents?
Amity University Gurugram provides students with proper education combined with industrial training making them accustomed to the work culture.
- They have a well maintained infrastructure updated with all the modern facilities and equipment. Be it a lab, sport centre, gym or swimming pool.
- The whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled and has spacious amphitheater styled air-conditioned classrooms, world-class Library, multiple auditoriums with a commercial complex for residents.
- The option of Study Abroad gives students an opportunity to complete a part of their course in a foreign country, which is great for global exposure.
- They have several centers of excellence for BRICS studies, Ocean Atmospheric Science and Technology, Robotics, Stem Cell Research, Innovation in education and many more.
- They also offer facilities like Robotics, Moot courts, Centers of Excellence, Amity Innovation Incubator and Entrepreneurship cell.
- The university also has collaborations with many national and international universities.
- There are also a number of clubs, led by students, that are active at the campus.
- These clubs work towards youth empowerment, social awareness and development of skills such as music, performing arts, Dramatics, Fine Arts, etc.
- Placement opportunities at Amity University Haryana are really great. Byju’s, TCS, Wipro, ITC, Amazon, etc. are some of the major recruiters.
Amity University Gurugram is a great place for academic and holistic development, so choosing this will be really worthy.
Why do students leave BHU?
Although BHU has the best faculty and management, many students tend to leave BHU after a few days. They feel isolated and homesick. Also, the teachers have a lot of political influence. The administration does not let you take a stand for yourself. A lot of inter students riots take place here.
Also, BHU has a sustaining hierarchy and preferential treatment that seeps down to the education part as well. Ex-students become professors without external exposure. So they bring much lesser value in terms of ethics, fair marking, and admission system.
I think these are some minor reasons why students keep leaving BHU after admission.
Should I go to IBS Hyderabad (ICFAI) for an MBA? Why or why not?
IBS Hyderabad isn’t a good option for MBA. The placement record of the institute isn’t good. You won’t get a good ROI. The course fee for an MBA at IBS Hyderabad is INR 16.02 lakhs. While the average CTC offered to the students according to IBS Hyderabad placement highlights for 2022 is INR 7.97 LPA.
The student intake is huge. Batch strength for MBA is 1300. So, students don’t get equal opportunities in terms of academics and placements.
Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs): What are the facilities at an IIT hostel?
Some of my friends are IIT Madras alumni. Here is their insight into the hostel facilities of the institute.
- The hostels have 24 hours internet connection. Internet speed goes up to 100 Mbps. There’s a 1GB per day data usage cap.
- There is an airconditioned tech room that stays open 24 hours a day. The tech rooms have power tools. You can use the tools to get simple carpentry stuff done.
- You will have access to the Center of Innovation, a tech-conductive facility. Among other things, it has a 3D printing machine, a workstation for carrying out powerful stimulations. Most tech junkies on campus usually crowd over there.
- Every hostel usually has a hostel room, a TV room, a computer room, and an indoor games room. All basic amenities are available in the hostels along with washing machines and portable water supply.
- The hostel rooms can feel a bit constricted at times. But every hostel has a huge central ground.
- Power cuts are quite rare. There are also utility support staffs to help you out even during night.
- The HUL snack station stays open from evening to late at night every day. There are also many eateries near the campus.
A unique trait of the IIT Madras campus is its forested area. Although it is outside the boundaries of the hostel zone, you can wander off to this area when you need a Psychological high.
Is 28 too old for IIM?
No, age is not the limit when considering an MBA from IIMs. In fact, the peer group comprises students of diverse age brackets and backgrounds.
One of my friends age 26 recently got admission to IIM Bangalore. He notice most of his batchmates were young and fresh from college but the overall learning experience was very empowering and diverse. While others might question your decision and try to demotivate you, remember only you know your real worth. Don’t let others' opinions weigh you down and give up something you dreamed of.
My cousin completed his engineering, went to MIT, and even has his own start-up, but is currently pursuing PGPM in IIM Bangalore. This clearly proves that there is no right time or age for an MBA. Most importantly, if the admission committee of IIMs deems you suitable for an MBA, then your age should be your last concern.
What is your review of Christ University?
Christ University is one of the most famous private universities in India and is known for its professional courses and career opportunities in terms of placements.
- Campus: Christ University has six campuses. The four campuses of the university are located in Bangalore, Karnataka and the other two are in Delhi NCR and Pune Lavasa. The most famous campus of Christ University is the Bangalore Central Campus.
- Admission Criteria: The university offers admission based on the Christ University Entrance Test to most courses like BBA, BCA, M.Com, M.Tech, etc. Students who will qualify for the entrance exam, have to appear for a micro presentation round
- Fee Structure: The course fee ranges from INR 85,000 to INR 4.65 lakhs per year for Karnataka candidates and the fee for other state students ranges from INR 95,000 to INR 4.75 lakhs yearly.
- Popular Courses: Some of the most opted courses at Christ University Bangalore are B.Tech, M.Tech and MBA.
- Placements: Christ University has a good placement record for all major courses, with a high percentage of students getting placed every year. The average package offered to the students varies from course to course and ranges from INR 4-6 LPA overall.
- Faculty: The faculty of Christ University is an asset to the institution as most of them are recognized degree holders in their domains and students can ask their doubts as many times as they want.
- Social Life: Christ University has students from all over the world. Students at Christ University actively engage in various clubs, events, competitions, national and international workshops and seminars, and performances throughout the academic year.
What are the ranking of the IIITs?
Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIITs) ranks right after IITs and NITs, in terms of popularity.
