Candidate must have passed in an engineering degree with 50% marks in a relevant field to apply for the M.Tech course. The tuition fee for M.Tech range from INR 4 lakhs to INR 5.60 lakhs at PES University. Candidates can submit their PGCET or GATE scores to secure admission to the M.Tech course. Which is better, ME at IIT Dharwad or IIT Tirupati?

SK
Suyash Kumar Posted On : January 17th, 2024
Lives in Tirupati

Both these colleges have their own pros and cons.

Here are some important points for you to consider-

  1. The Andhra Pradesh government is taking initiatives to make Tirupati an educational hub. IIIT Tirupati and IISER Tirupati are located close to the IIT Tirupati campus. This makes up for a very rich environment.

But then, even IIT Dharwad is located close to Karnatak University, Karnatak College, University of Agricultural Sciences, SDMCET, and IIIT Dharwad is soon to be established nearby.

  2. IIT Tirupati has very lenient branch change rules. You can opt for branch change after the 1st semester itself. I don’t know about the branch change rules of IIT Dharwad.
  3. IIT Tirupati operates from its transit campus which is a part of its permanent campus. Though the permanent campus is under construction, the transit campus has all the infrastructural facilities.
  4. IIT Dharwad has been operating from its permanent campus since 12th March 2023. The campus was inaugurated by the Hon. Prime Minister himself.

  5. The closing rank of IIT Tirupati is the lowest among all 3rd gen IITs, so it houses quite competent students.

  6. Tirupati is a clean tourist spot, so in terms of location, IIT Tirupati clearly wins.

Based on these points, I would suggest you choose IIT Tirupati over IIT Dharwad. But you should first consult some seniors from the Mechanical department of both these colleges to know about the academics and faculty at each.

Will IIT Tirupati be a good option for an M.Tech in CSE or should I go for IIT spot rounds?

AS
Aishwarya Shastri Posted On : January 11th, 2024
Lives in Hyderabad

Congrats on getting an IIT for your M.Tech CSE.

As for IIT Tirupati, even though it started its M.Tech intake only a few years ago, it offers decent placements for M.Tech CSE. During 2022, the M.Tech CSE branch of IIT Tirupati recorded an average package of 16 LPA. Moreover, all 8 registered students were successfully placed from the campus. IIT Tirupati carries the prestigious ‘IIT tag’ which will be beneficial for your placement. But most importantly, your skillset will get you placed.

If your rank is not that good and you aren’t sure about IIT Tirupati, you can try for IIT Dhanbad, BHU or Guwahati in the spot rounds. You can even try for admission into a good NIT.

What should one choose between Mtech in ISI kolkata for the Quality,Reliability and Operation Research program, or MS from IISc in SERC (Super Computer Education Research Centre)?

PP

I can never stop suggesting people join ISI Kolkata by any means. It’s a magical place for math lovers and has given birth to many world-renowned Mathematicians. Even the offered SERC at IISc cannot be compared to ISI.

Whenever you are choosing a college or even a branch, the best way to determine the best option is to check the faculty profiles. People who choose colleges solely on the basis of placements realize the true scenario to be way different than expected and end up regretting their decision. So, don’t aim for becoming successful only, rather become talented and skilled enough that success seeks you on its own. Stop focusing on placements, focus on other major things, and good placements will be well on your way!
