Which institute should I join for an MTech in computer science, ISI Kolkata or one of the IITs?

AG
Anuraag Gupta Posted On : July 8th, 2022
Studied at Indian Statistical Institute

IITs offer better placements for MTech in Computer Science. ISI Kolkata offers fewer core Computer Science job profiles. Most opportunities offered at the institute are for M.Stat and MSQE students. But if you want a career as a Data Scientist, it will be a better choice. ISI Kolkata placements are the best in the country for analytics. However, the recruiting companies usually prefer M.Stat/MSQE students over M.Tech.

According to the recent placement highlights M.Tech CS students of ISI usually receive a median CTC of around INR 18.6 LPA.

In terms of research too, join ISI Kolkata, if you want to work on something related to analytics or big data, etc. If you want a traditional career path in CS, then IITs will be better.

How is Systems Engineering at IIT BHU? How are the placements? What is IIT BHU like for MTech students?

SS
Sukhmani Singh Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi

System engineering is an interdisciplinary course that can be pursued by EE/EC/IN students who have valid a GATE score. EC/IN students may face problems as major course content is related to electrical engineering like electrical drive, power drive, operation & control, so electrical engineering students find it easy as compared to EC/IN students.

The total no.of seats are 9 and a maximum of 40% seats can be filled by a particular branch (from EE, EC, IN).

Now coming to placement, it totally depends on the student, as there is no specific company for system engineering but students will get the opportunity to sit in for the companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Oracle, Sap Labs, Qualcomm, Intel, Eaton, Kla Tencor, TCS, Cognizant, Bosch, General Electric, Mercedes Benz, Math works, Tata Motors, Texas Instruments, Cisco, Honeywell, JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Relaxo, Kotak Mahindra Bank and many more. There are also lectureship jobs from universities & coaching institutions. One student can apply for a max of 60 companies. There is also one student one job rule according to that if a student gets a job offer in one company then he will not be eligible to sit for another company similarly if someone gets an internship in one company then they will not eligible for other companies.

In IIT BHU, the M.Tech fee is 2 lakhs/annum. Most students prepare for govt.sector jobs as they get sufficient time to do so as the schedule is not hectic.

M.Tech Extractive Metallurgy, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2019)

To prepare for the written test and the personal interview for MTech in Climate Science and Technology at IIT Bhubaneswar you should clear your basics in the subject as questions asked in the test are from the undergraduate syllabus and it also follows the syllabus for GATE.

As soon as you get your call letter from IIT Bhubaneswar, book your hostel accommodation. You should reach the destination prior to the day of the written test and get settled properly. After reaching there, you should study for that subject only for which you have been called for. As it is an IIT, the question can range from the basics to deep into the subject so focus on your core subjects properly.

The results of the written test will be declared within the next 1 hour of the written exam and if you pass the written test you will be shortlisted for the personal interview. The interview may be scheduled on the same day or the day after.

The interview is mainly technical and will test your basics concepts and knowledge. You should try to give accurate and to the point answers and if you are a dropout then you should have a valid reason for that. The interview mainly takes around 15 minutes and a minimum of 3 interviewers will be present.

If you get selected, the authorities will let you know via email.
