I have quite a few friends at VJIT Mumbai, so I can speak for the institute. After IITs, it is quite reputed among students. People from outside of Maharashtra may not be aware of VJIT but inside the state being a student of VJIT is a matter of pride.
If we make a comparison of engineering colleges nationwide, it will be IITs from tier-1, followed by few NITs, and after that colleges such as VJIT for the following tier.
VJIT is an old institute with a huge brand value. Many reputed MNCs visit the campus for the placement drive. It is less recognized but ‘underrated’ is probably is the wrong word to describe it.
The following factors are the reasons who most people are not familiar with the institute.
So, VJIT may not have national recognition but it is quite reputed inside Maharashtra.
As I have studied at VJTI, I can confirm that opting for MTech CSE from here will be a wise choice. The college has a long reputation for excellence in engineering courses with a focus on practical learning. The college possesses experienced faculty members with degrees from institutes like IITs providing students with guidance and valuable mentorship.
MTech graduates generally find placement in core sectors as well as in domains like consulting, IT and research. The college has a strong industry connection and a brand name that attracts many companies for placement. The placement cell also assists MTech students in securing opportunities in top companies.
For admission to MTech CSE, you are required to possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university and a valid score in the GATE exam.
While both are very good engineering colleges from Mumbai, according to me VJTI’s superiority lies in its strong industry connections, esteemed faculty and brand name. Its curriculum ensures that students are exposed to the latest developments and practical skills. VJTI also has a strong alumni network working in top companies that further enhance its reputation. Every year, many companies visit the VJTI campus and provide good packages. For 2024, A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now with more expected to grab good offers as the campus drive continues.
Apart from placements, VJTI also offers better ROI and start-up support to students who aspire to entrepreneurial ventures. KJ Somiaya also charges much higher for its courses while VJTI being an autonomous government institute has an economic fee structure. It fosters a culture of academic excellence and innovation. VJTI faculties are also much more capable than KJ Somaiya’s, guiding students and at the same time engaging in research.
VJTI is a high ranking Mumbai college, offering excellent textile engineering course, among several other essential programs. The UG and diploma program contains 60 seats, whereas the postgraduate program admits 9 students each year. The college maintains a steller Return on Investment ratio of 2:1 and 6:1 for UG and PG pass-outs respectively.

There are plenty of things to consider before you should apply to any college, and all of the major points are majorly check-marked by VJTI college. Through proper training, adequate practical exposure, and theoretical knowledge, VJTI makes a case for being one of the best educational institutes out there. In an exciting and upcoming industry like Textile, a VJTI degree can help you open many professional doors.
Overall, I would suggest you to go with VJTI as it offers quality education at an affordable rate from dedicated faculties. VJTI also has a strong record of placements as it calls top companies for computer engineering students every year.
I would suggest you go with VJTI CS as it will be a better choice in the long run. Computer science is in demand with the number of job openings increasing every day in the country. VJTI’s computer science program is famous in the country and is known for its curriculum with a dedicated emphasis on practical learning. The college has a dedicated faculty pool and most of them are also engaged in research. VJTI's location also benefits it to a thriving industry ecosystem, providing students with ample opportunities for research, internships and industry collaborations.
Placement is another factor in which VJTI is better according to me. In 2024, A total of 401 BTech students were placed with the highest package secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA. The average package for the BTech Computer Science branch was INR 20 LPA.
NIT Goa, VJTI Mumbai, and COEP Mumbai are well-known engineering colleges. The choice depends upon you. The following are the points to be considered.
All these colleges are at a similar level. So, you should choose according to your convenience. If you don’t live at any of these locations then your preference order should be COEP/ VJTI > NIT Goa. VJIT has a great placement record. The average CTC offered by the institute is 7 LPA.
Having to know some people from both these institutions, I can say that both of these colleges are specialized in two different fields. Let me share some facts about both these colleges I gathered by interacting with them.
Categories | Project Management at NITIE | Project Management at VJTI |
Course Fee | 12.53 lakh | 1.65 lakh |
Highest CTC | 22 LPA | - |
Average CTC | 14 LPA | 5.5-6 LPA |
Recruiting Companies | Deloitte, Dabur, KPMG, Marico, etc. | Bank of America, Barclays, Capgemini, Crisil, etc. |
Hence, there is no comparison between VJTI and NITIE. But one of my friends has recommended NITIE as in many aspects it manages to be better than VJTI.
As a BTech graduate from VJTI, I would suggest you to go with VJTI for your MTech in CSE.
All these factors make VJTI an ideal choice for pursuing MTech CSE. For admission to MTech CSE, you are required to possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university and a valid score in the GATE exam.
