Dr.Deepa Katiyal is the HOD at Shri Vaishnav Institute of Management. She holds M.A. (Eng.), M.B.A.(HR) and Ph.D degrees. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience in various prestigious institutes in Indore. She was a member of the Board of Studies of Management; Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore and the Inspection Committee of DAVV, Indore. She was the Coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Shri Vaishnav Institute of Management. She is Ph.D. supervisor and guides students at DAVV University. She has published more than eighty research papers in different National and International Journals including 12 in UGC CARE Journals and thirty UGC Approved Journals. She has also presented her research papers at several conferences for the Best Paper category and has won it. She has attended and organized many Conferences, seminars and workshops related to Entrepreneurship, HR and Management. She has taken expert lectures on Personality Development, Management and Entrepreneurship in various institutes, corporations and universities. She has been called as Chief Guest, Session Chair and Judge by various organizations. She has been a member of the syllabus Revision Committee for MBA and BBA of DAVV University and also of IMS DAVV University.

Her specialization in teaching and research is Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Organisational Behaviour, Communication Skills and Personality Development.

Tell us about your experience in the Education Industry.

I have more than 20 years of experience in different renowned Institutions of Indore. I was a member of the Board of Studies of Management; Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore. I have published more than eighty research papers in different National and International Journals including 12 in UGC CARE Journals and thirty UGC Approved Journals. My specialization in teaching and research are Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior, Communication Skills and Personality Development.


What do you see as the greatest strength of your college?

Our Institute has a 37-year-old legacy initiated with the effort of meeting social responsibility by the Vaishnav Group of Trusts. With an aim of imparting quality education and contributing to the nation’s development by developing skilled youth. Our Institute focuses on a student-centric approach to teaching, critical thinking, and sustainability programs. Our main focus is on applied learning, research motivation, learned and experienced faculty, a strong alumni network and upskilling of students and faculty members.


How do you bring in a practical and industry-oriented approach towards subjects?

To include a practical and industry-oriented approach in the subject learning, the institute continuously makes efforts through industrial visits, internships, industry expert sessions, industry-institute interface cell (IIIC) activities, workshops organized by corporations like Infosys, TCS, etc and activities organized under MoUs signed with various industries and organizations.

What extracurricular activities are organized in your college to enhance the skills of students?

Various activities are organized for the skill enhancement of students like educational programs, curriculum-based seminars, competitions (White Collar Competition) and workshops, MOOC courses, dance, singing, antakshari, face painting, fireless cooking, office table decoration, and web designing competitions.

Participation in college events like Synergy, Prabandhotsav and celebration of various occasions. We are showcasing societal issues through Nukkad natak, Rallies, Flash mobs and volunteering in Government Programs like Smart city projects, Traffic awareness campaigns, Blood donation camps and National level cricket matches.


Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and aspiring students?

Career planning is very important for the youth for the nation’s development. To excel in a career today’s generation needs to concentrate on enhancing their skills as the competition is very high. They should be cautious in choosing the skills that enhance their personality as a professional in the future. To groom themselves they need to look around for various sources available to learn the required skills. Also, they should toil for strengthening their moral and human values.


What are some of the biggest challenges you see for higher education in general?

With time the generations are getting more educated and aware through education but still higher education faces some challenges that include employability, focus on Applied learning, infrastructure that aligns with digitalization, research and innovation, faculty upskilling and assessment challenges.
