Why MBA from DMS IIT Delhi

I had more than two years of experience in the BFSI domain before joining DMS, IIT Delhi for pursuing MBA. During this stint, what fascinated me most was how small decisions driven by me at micro level could impact banking models having multi billion exposure. However, one thing I noticed was business prowess, project management capabilities and erudition and maturity to devise business strategies was key to the success of any project. 

This led to my decision to pursue MBA to understand the businesses at macro level and yet keeping the micro details intact. I personally believe that an MBA is a formal education which is necessary to understand the business of any company in the larger scheme of things.

Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi started its two-year MBA programme in 1997. Since there’s been no looking back. Currently, it is ranked 5th amongst the top B-schools list as per NIRF ranking 2023 by the Government of India. Also it is ranked 4th amongst Indian management colleges in Global QS ranking. The institute’s high rank is a testament of not only excellent placements but top-notch faculty and contributions in research fields by faculties. It is ranked number one in research amongst all B schools, thanks to the IIT ecosystem. One of the major USP of this college is being part of IIT Delhi ecosystem which not only facilitates world-class infrastructure but also an extensive alumni network. DMS, IIT Delhi also facilitates the Global Field Study (GFS) programme which gives international exposure to the entire batch and it’s one of a kind.

There are 20 hostels on campus, out of which 5 are exclusively girls, and 15 are exclusively boys’ hostels. All the Girls hostels and half of the boys hostels are fully air conditioned. The mess food is decent. Hostel provides a great opportunity to socialize with people from different courses as well as makes you know a lot about your own self in the whole process of sharing and adjusting your room with someone else. You tend to spend less time in your hostels owing to the continuous classes/assignments you have in a day, mostly you come to the hostel only for sleeping or studying. Hostel also has scope for indoor sports like table tennis, snookers, Gym facility, etc.

Placements at IIT Delhi MBA

Placements have always been awesome and DMS, IIT Delhi attracts all major corporate brands for summer internships and final placements for coveted roles of investment banking, VC and PE in finance, strategy consulting, analytics and BFSI, Sales and marketing, Operations and Supply chain. Our institute also hosts major case competitions of FMCG, consulting and finance giants and students have made a mark in national level competitions, thanks to the competitive and conducive environment. Life at DMS IIT Delhi

Pursuing MBA was a major life decision for me leaving a high paying job in an MNC and deciding to pursue higher study involved a lot of consultation as it is not just a two year thing but it will always remain as an identity to oneself in the entire corporate journey.

But there’s been no regret since the day I have joined DMS, IIT Delhi. It has been an enriching experience to manage multiple things, be it academics, case competitions and preparing for summer internships. 

Apart from focusing on these things, it is also necessary to make connections because one of the reasons to pursue MBA is networking and having connections with such crème-la- crème in institutes like DMS helps in broadening horizons about one’s life goals as well. MBA life is hectic but also prepares you to face the corporate world and teaches you to adapt fast and turn vulnerabilities to strengths.
