TNEA Latest Notifications
The Directorate of Technical Education will commence the TNEA 2024 Counseling from July 22 – 23, 2024. The TNEA Counselling is open to candidates whose names were listed on the TNEA 2024 Rank List. The registration window for TNEA 2024 has been closed on 11th June. The last date for document submission is 12th June. The authority has released the 10-digit TNEA Random Number on 12th June at tneaonline.org.
- There will be no examination through TNEA. You will get admitted for BE/B.Tech courses only through Counseling.
- Admission will be based on your obtained marks in class 12 in PCM combination. Your total marks in PCM will be reduced to 200 (Maths-100, Physics-50, Chemistry-50)
- During the release of the TNEA Rank List your total marks out of 200 will be considered.
After the release of the rank List you can access the cutoff through the official website. The official date of counselling for this academic year is not out yet. Interested candidates will be notified through the official portal about the TNEA Counselling date.
Analysing the past year’s data, you can assume that the TNEA Counselling for 2024 will start around the fourth week of August.

How to Check TNEA Random Number
TNEA Random number is a 10 digit number which is randomly generated for the candidates to resolve ties in TNEA Rank Card. According to the counselling schedule, the rank card will be out on 10th July. To check random number you have to follow the steps below:
- Visit The official website tneaonline.org login portal.
- Enter your registration ID or Email ID
- Now ‘sign in’ to your account
- Upon signing in , TNEA Random Number will appear before your screen.

TNEA Rank List 2024 Selection Criteria
The selection process through TNEA Rank List 2024 will include the steps below:
- Step 1: For the selection, candidates who score out of 200 in the PCM combination will be taken into consideration.
- Step 2: The marks obtained by the students in the PCM combination from different boards will be equated with the obtaining marks in the same subjects from the Tamilnadu State board using normalisation.

TNEA 2024 Merit List
TNEA 2024 Merit List will be prepared based on the total marks obtained out of 200. After normalisation the qualified candidates from different boards will be placed in the common merit list. The authority releases both the overall rank and community rank on the official website.

Know the TNEA Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for TNEA are as follows:
Nativity
- You must have studied in Tamil Nadu from class VIII to class XII.
- You must be a Tamil Nadu native if you have completed your class VIII to class XII in some other region/ outside Tamil Nadu. You need to submit an original nativity certificate in electronic form / digitally signed e-certificate.
- If your parents are central government employees in Tamil Nadu from the last five years then you are eligible for TNEA.
- If your parents are All India Service Tamil Nadu Cadre Officers, you are eligible and need self-declaration from the parent.
Srilankan Tamil Refugee
If you belong to a Sri Lankan Tamil Refugee who has studied in Tamil Nadu, then you are also eligible for TNEA However you need to produce the following certificate:
- Certificate of Identity from Head Quarters Tahsildar.
- Original Passport, Visa and letter registered with the police station are needed for candidates who have not registered in the refugee camp.
What is the Passing Marks Criteria for TNEA
To qualify for TNEA 2024, candidates need to obtain a minimum mark in HSC. The percentage of that minimum mark is presented below:

TNEA 2024: Syllabus
As there is no qualifying exam for the TNEA exam, there is no syllabus. The authority will consider your high school (class 12 marks) score for the selection process. However, registering for TNEA Counselling is mandatory.

Around 440+ engineering colleges will participate in the counselling process. Once the counselling process starts the admission authority will release the TNEA Cutoff 2024 for 1.5 lakh seats. TNEA Counselling: What is the process?
TNEA counselling has four rounds. They are 1)Choice filling 2)Seat allotment 3)Choice confirmation option practice 4)Reporting and confirmation of seat. Different groups of applicants will be formed for counselling based on the merit list. You have to login into your TNEA portal with User ID and password. Several activities will be performed through the portal during the counselling round.
Six confirmation options will be shown to the candidates during the seat allotment stage. The six confirmation options are:
- Accept and Join: When you are satisfied with the allotted seat.
- Accept and Upward: When you are satisfied with the allotted seat but wish to wait for higher order.
- Decline and Upward: When not satisfied with the seat allotment and wish to wait for higher order.
- Decline and move to the next round: When you are not satisfied with the seat allotment and want to move to the next round.
- Decline and Quit: When you are not satisfied with the seat allotment and do not wish to participate in further rounds.
- Upward and move to the next round : When you are not allotted a seat by all the choices. You can wait for upward movement for the seat allotment. If no seat is allotted during upward movement, you can move to the next round.

194.25 is the final cutoff score for 7.5 quota candidates enrolled in the B.Tech Biotechnology programme through TNEA. For the same programme, the first cutoff score is 199.
