Professor to student is quite low for reaserach work. All the professors are quite qualified and every teacher has studied from tier-1 college and experience of over 10+ years. Interaction with teacher is very easy they are easily accessible but you just need to match the timing.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

It is already a govt funded university. You can also guide young student in campus for there entrance exams by providing them foods. All the sports court are presented in the campus. Film , art everything is there in campus.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The quality of teaching is very good and teachers are highly qualified. Labs are equipped with high-tech machinery and are very useful for research on any topic according to the choice of the students. in the last or second year, every student has to opt for a guide for their one-year master's project. Exams are half yearly and conducted on a semester basis and from time to time assignments, projects and power points are given to the students which are very useful for them. Exams are difficult to pass for those who do not study. Studious candidates can get more than 9 SGPA if they study properly because questions are asked on a concept basis.

Campus Life:

The annual fest is conducted thrice or four times a year. Students enjoy PANTHEON conducted in the month of September, BIT ANNUAL FEST in the month of February and many more. The central library is there with thousands of books and a computer room for online study. A hostel sports competition is held every year.

Campus Life:

College life is good but too engaging. If one has to enjoy his/her life in the campus, he/she definitely can. There arebtimely tests and events being organized like Cultural Meet, Riviera, Prayukti etc. There's a big library here with all the relevant books. Classrooms are spacious enough. Inter-sports activities are also there. There are too many students club here, like ME Club, Nivedita etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I've chosen this course because I want to pursue PhD. For MTech program, faculties are not the best, but can be managed with if studied sincerely. Faculty to student ratio is 1:7 I would say. Faculties are qualified... Although few of them are PhD, rest all have cleared MTech only. Term exams are not too hard to pass.

This is the best part of all. You cannot expect a better campus than this. Other IITs also got a nice infrastructure but as they are between the metropolitan cities they lack the space to expand. But IITK is 15 kms from Kanpur City and they have ample amount of space available. The campus is a lush green with nice architectural buildings open and green spaces. A lot of peacocks can be seen here and there.

Admission:

There was a written test of basic maths and mechanical engineering questions. The syllabus covered was GATE syllabus and basic of aptitude. A good understanding of concepts is more than sufficient to crack the exam. The final admission was based on the combined performance in GATE and the written exam.

There is the biggest fest of north India called Confluence which has a lot of technical events, co-curricular events, gala nights and performances by leading celebrities in the field of comedy, dance, music, and acting. It is conducted in November and December generally. Also, there is two sports fest one for athletic and the other for activities like swimming, cricket, football, basketball, badminton and TT etc. Many classrooms are having ACs and coolers inbuilt. A lot of effort is given to sports and recreation activities. Apart from that round the year, cocurricular activities like dance, drama, music, poster, wall painting, photography, online gaming, speech, debate nukkad Natak69 etc. are organised by the student clubs for the college time to time and on events and festivals. There are a lot of clubs like literature, Hindi, photography, art and culture, technical clubs that students will enjoy during their stay in college. All are recognized by the college administration.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because of the specialization of IP in its mechanical department. The faculty-to-student ratio is 1:17 for MTech. All the faculties are PhD holders and at positions of asst. associate and professor post. Few ad-hoc PhD holder faculties are also appointed to help in the teaching. The teaching is very detailed and faculties often use a projector room or conference room for the teaching. Industrial visits are made to research labs and industries nearby like Karnal, Chandigarh, Delhi for the students. The exams are timely taken and the syllabus is decided by the faculty. The questions are framed by the faculty and checked by him/her only. However, the question type varies every time and faculty adhere to the pattern of the question paper decided by the dept but he can modify it according to the course need.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well the college prospectus mentioned up to 6 streams in mechanical engineering MTech. But only automation engineering stream was available actually. Also the subjects I was made to study or I would rather say was forced to study by the college were not at all MTech level subjects. And the syllabus too of these majority of the subjects was same as that of B.Tech . Although the college had well experienced and qualified professors, they were in some way very arrogant in their behavior and nature. Also they never ever promoted or even answered majority of the doubts of the students.

Campus Life:

The campus is only of 15 to 1 acres which is very less for a university that is government ruled regulated and approved. No other branch or degree students talked to each other. Other than when there were cricket matches or student dharnas/ protests.

Ques. Is it good to take ISM Dhanbad, M.Tech (mechanical) if I am getting in NIT Surathkal M.Tech (mechanical)? Which is better in terms of placements? Does ISM Dhanbad have the placements for M.Tech (ME)?

● Top Answer By Sharmila Ganguli on 31 Oct 20

Ans. M.Tech Mechanical is a preferred stream but its success is directly proportional to the level of placements offered by colleges in comparison to the fees or investment made. The number of students enrolled is less compared to B.Tech making it a less lucrative option for campus placements. The detailed analysis is as follows. Eligibility: The basic criterion stands at graduation with a minimum score of 50%. The common examination accepted is GATE. Fees: NIT Surathkal has a fee structure of Rs. 1.85 Lakhs ISM Dhanbad offers the course is Rs. 1.05 Lakhs. ISM has fewer fees as compared to NIT Surathkal. Placement Details: The prime-most details to be focused upon are the average and highest placement scenario of both the colleges in general. College Placement NIT Surathkal Average-Rs.11.90 LPA, Highest-Rs. 18.75 LPA ISM Dhanbad Highest-Rs. 12.50 LPA 79% placements in NIT Surathkal M.Tech as opposed to 50% in ISM. Major Recruiters are Teradata, Cisco, Dell EMC, Riverbed Technology, and Huawei Technologies. ISM M.Tech is not preferable for mechanical, it’s a sure shot option in case of CSE or Mineral engineering. The only reason to prefer ISM is the IIT factor attached to it which makes it more appealing in terms of faculty and culture. The choice can be made both on the basis of placements and college ranking with respect to the course offered. The packages offered in the Mechanical stream in NIT Surathkal are quite good as compared to those in ISM Dhanbad. NIT Surathkal also holds a reputation in the institutional list with respect to its 7th position in the list of NIT.Read more

Ques. What are placement opportunities for students pursuing an M.Tech in mechanical engineering from IISC, Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Mayank Trivedi on 14 Jul 23

Ans. Well honestly, once you are in the grasp of the IISc magic, you will forget about placements, and your hunger for higher studies and research will grow instead. The intense workload and the dynamic research environment will bring you close to some of the geniuses who may be pursuing a Ph.D., UG, or master's. Interacting with them will make you realize that higher studies are a better option. Some who go for jobs anyway, come back to get a PhD sometime later. This is what the IISc effect is after all. As for the IISC placements for MTech Mechanical Engineering, students receive a minimum of 8 LPA packages with no limit on top packages varying from 15-25 LPA CTC. The major recruiters include companies like TATA motors, TATA steel, TCS research, Mahindra motors, Philips, Airbus, General Electric, Rolls Royce, TATA advanced system, PTC, L&T, and other design, manufacturing, and petroleum companies. The best part is that students of this branch can sit for placements in companies of Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, and Material Engineering as well.  In all placements at IISc won't be an issue for either branch yet I will say again, judging a research-oriented institute like IISc on the basis of placements is not justified. Read more

Ques. How are the placements for M Tech Mechanical students in IIT Kanpur?

● Top Answer By Vijay Sarnaik on 25 Apr 23

Ans. You will find both core and non-core opportunities in all departments at IIT Kanpur. Mostly Analytic roles are offered to students of all departments. These roles and packages depend on your own caliber and not on the branch you belong to. Core roles are also offered to Mechanical Engineering students at IIT Kanpur. These roles are given on the basis of your academic performance and your knowledge base pertaining to the specific branch. But it’s important to know that core roles offered are very fewer in number than non-core jobs. It’s recommended that you prepare for both. Ques. How is the M.Tech in welding technology at NIT Trichy in terms of placements?

● Top Answer By Siddharth Mukharjee on 15 Sept 21

Ans. Welding technology has the distinct advantage of having some organizations who come to NIT Trichy solely to hire welding masters. In core welding firms, more than 50% placement is guaranteed. During the placement process, many software and mechanical firms visit the campus.  According to the recent placement highlights, the placement average for Welding Technology was around 60%. The placement average is less this year due to the ongoing pandemic.  The average CTC offered in the placement is 7-9 LPA.  The major recruiting companies that visit the campus are Tata Steel, Caterpillar, Lincoln, etc. NDT companies also recruit from Welding. If you have the required skills you can also sit for software and data science roles.  Almost 60% of the branch get placed in Mechanical core while the remaining 40% get placed in sectors like software, marketing, etc. If you have good CGPA and decent communication skills then getting into core sectors from Welding Engineering at NIT Trichy will not be that difficult.Read more

Ques. How should I prepare for MS Mechanical test at IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Tushar Banerjee on 29 Mar 23

Ans. The written test for MS Mechanical has 3 major topics to choose from: Design; Thermal; and Manufacturing. The section you chose has to be necessarily the same for both written and interview. There are a total of 12 questions in the written test - 10 questions from chosen section and 2 questions from Maths. Every question carries equal marks (2 marks). Usually, 8 questions are numerical based while the rest 4 are theoretical. Numerical questions were based on engineering topics like SOM, Tom, and Mechanics while theoretical questions were highly conceptual. One has to answer around 8-9 questions to get shortlisted for the interview  Once the shortlisted candidates' list is released, you are required to go for document verification. You will be informed of your interview date as well. You might be asked to bring a copy of your first-year project along with you and will be asked questions related to it.  Once summoned, you will be asked to select 3 different projects out of 3 different specializations. (Thermal/design/manufacturing) for the MS course. You will be asked basic questions from the topic you have prepared beforehand and sometimes additional mathematics questions are also asked.  Overall, the interview is not as difficult as it seems and enough preparation will get you through.Read more
