Political science has good scope in future. It helps in understanding society, governance, etc. It should be quite practical not just theory based. It gets boring if we only study thoery. Sessional exams are there in 1 semester along with semester exam.

There is not any scholarship as such in my course but courses fees is so minimal that you not need one. There were some scholarships but only for BPL card holding students. If you get hostel in the campus only then it is very much affordable you need to pay only 50rs per meal for food with no limitations on quantity

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course is very much corresponding with the syllabus of UPSC optionals but if you are trying to make something for yourself in academics you need to go beyond the limit of syllabus in university because it has not been updated for long time

In my course BA POLITICAL SCIENCE HONS. there are three core subjects. That is : Political theory, Understanding "Political", Colonialism and Nationalism in India. Along with these core subjects we have AEC, GE, SEC & VAC. Means total seven subjects we have to study. Proper faculty is assigned for seperate subjects and proper classes are going on. All faculties are easily approachable, they have made their separate whatsapp group, they all are honest towards their work.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Ya course curriculum now has changed. New courses has been added. Like we have Values added course. In this they are offering a wide variety of value adding course. Like I've opted Fit India. This is very interesting as well as useful course. We study about the fitness of a being. We study about yoga, diet and all.

Campus Life:

There were two fresers held for us one for the entire arts department and one for just the political science department. Except that there seems to be not much talk of any other festivals. The library is quite vast with extremely helpful books to help you through your studies The classrooms are pretty traditional just a chalkboard and teacher and rickety benches which might break with thw slightest push. There is not much sports played on campus we don't have a playground. There is a activity room with a tablr tennis board but it's rarely open I have not seen any student run social group or clubs yet everyone seems to just come to attend lectures and leave not much more activity than that

Faculty:

The faculties are veryyy approachable. There was not one person atleast in my department of political science that i found i couldn't approach or were rude. Other students from journalism and english have alsoo said the same. The exams are in February as I've heard from seniors There a project and viva before that which are not easy but not that hard either. It's moderate level and for the final exam as I've said syllabus is barely complete as most days classes are skipped by the teachers. Therefore the huge amt of syllabus will be a burden on the final days before exam which in turn will make the exam quite tough

After getting my name listed on the merit list of Seth Anandram Jaipuria college, I opted for admission through the school WBCAP portal, through which I had applied for admission. I had to pay a sum of ?3,370 as the first semester fees. My total course fees costs ?31,920 which I had to pay through breakdown for each semester. I am also awaiting to get a scholarship and I'm unable to apply the swami Vivekananda scholarship, which I actually need so that I can run my personal expenses and pay the tuition fees. Till date I do not know that if there is any kind of priveledges for category reserved students. There might be some perks and privileges but yet I have not been informed about it.

Faculty:

Political science department of BA honours is one of the best faculty of the college, which I'm studying. The professors belongs from the JNU and JU. They are very helpful and strict in accordance to students. I also like the history department. I hate a lady teacher of English department because of her behaviour. There are many students who have changed their minor subject for this reason, even I have also asked our HOD that is it possible to change the subject at this time. Semester wise exams and externals do visit for viva and projects.

Campus Life:

My experience with campus life has been vibrant, full of growth, and well-balanced between academics and extracurricular activities. Here's an overview: Social Aspects & Club Involvement: Our campus fosters a dynamic social life, encouraging interaction through various student-run groups and clubs. Library Resources: The library is well-stocked with a diverse collection of books, journals, and online resources. Students have access to both academic textbooks and research journals, making it easier to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in their field. Classroom Infrastructure: Classrooms are equipped with smartboards and projectors, enhancing learning through interactive presentations. The technological setup ensures a more engaging experience and helps in practical learning. Sports & Extracurriculars: There is a wide range of extracurricular activities. Sports like football, basketball, and table tennis are encouraged, and facilities such as courts, grounds, and gym equipment are readily available. Extracurricular activities are varied, from literary events to dance and art competitions. Student Groups & Impact: Student-run social groups play a major role in enhancing the overall campus experience. They bring students together, offer platforms for expression, and build a sense of community, helping everyone stay connected and motivated.

Faculty:

The faculty of political science department is quite nice and they are approachable too. There are few teachers whose teaching style is amazing like- Mrs Ambar Ahmed and prof. Chetna Sharma, Ajay sir for economics, etc. I really love their teaching style. We don't left with any doubt after their lecture and if it is the teachers are so nice that they help to make our doubt clear in the class itself. One my teacher, I want want to mention his name.but my experience with him not good. His teachings style is also not upto mark. And sometimes unnecessarily he roast anyone. Talking about exams so, there are 2 semesters in every year in which there are 10 questions and you have to attend any 5, each carrying 18 marks.Questions are open to end, if you have studied well you will definitely get good marks.

Each department has a minimum faculty of 6, and most students in each department are around 40-50 each semester. The faculties are very approachable. I really like sir zotea and sir tka both from the political science department and sir johny from department of psychology. They take classes lightly without sacrificing the importance of the class, they know how to give lectures that are not boring. Currently i dont have any faculties that is dislike. There are 2 exams and 1 university exam each semester. The first 2 test are held by the college they are called Continuous Assessment Tests(CAT), we have 2 CAT before the final MZU examination. All the exams are fairly easy and fairly difficult, most students clear the CAT but a few students around 50 usually fail to clear the MZU examination

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

We paid around rs6000 including admission fee, development fee, lab fee, bus fee, college tshirt fee, magazine fee etc for one semester, so we pay around rs12000 anually. The fees for arts stream is all the same except for geography and psychology who got practical, they paid an extra 500 for the practical fees. The fees for arts and science stream are also the same, but fees for management is a little bit higher as they pay around rs10000 per semester. About scholarships there is Ishan uday scholarship where students get rs80000 per one installment, tribal scholarship which day scholars get around 18000 and around 21000 for hostellers. There are also some scholarship available only for science and engineering students.

I chose political science as a subject it will help in preparing for various competitive examination such upsc and other state pcs level examination and it will strengthen my knowledge of politics and will raise awerness regarding the constitution of India and other countries which will help me in getting into various world government institutions such as imf wto human rights clubs international amnesty and ngos . The areas of improvement it requires is traditionally required topic should be cut out and scope for apprenticeship should be implemented, political tour should be given to students in order to expedite exposure for their knowledge of the subject real life application should be encouraged. The exams are held annually during 1st year we have two papers as honours and two subjects as subsidiary and two papers as composition which is compulsory

Faculty:

There used to be very less ratio of girls as compared to boys due to following reasons It was a man oriented college in early days The campus was full of hooligans The hostel was clogged with hooligans making it unsafe for women to study , even students who already graduated used to stay in the hostel and vandalised the whole campus.but scenario is improving day by day the ratio of girls is increasing since covid and removal of the entrance system for admission the faculties members are also cooperative the faculties members I like are Dr Varsha Shekher associate professor, Dr Munna professor and dr jai prakash having great knowledge of the subject

As for the fee structure, I am a 1st year student, so I had paid ?17000 at first after getting ramanujan college, delhi university in the first round. But recently, they made us pay ?820 as the examination form filling fee for the 2st semester exams that are to be held in december-january. Apart from that, I opted for B.A. Political science (H) and I am really loving this college and experience so far. I also belong to the OBC category which might have given me an extra benefit in terms of how much fee I have to pay or regarding my selection.

Internships Opportunities:

I haven't been part of any internships so unfortunately I cannot answer this question. But I have to say, that we do have a placement cell in our college which helps students seeking jobs, they have sent many messages to many of my fellow batchmates who have joined it regarding internship opportunities, both online and offline.

Ques. Which is better for UPSC CSE PREPARATION BA or BA Hons in political science from DU?

● Top Answer By Yuvraj Dua on 07 Oct 22

Ans. BA and BA Honors are both excellent choices for UPSC CSE. It will aid you in your preparation for the Prelims and Main exams. In BA course, you must study three different subjects, such as political science, history, and geography, which means that 50% of the syllabus has already been covered, and if you choose Political Science as an optional subject, another 40% has already been covered. So taking a BA course will improve your chances.  Now, moving on to the BA (Hons), you will study political science in depth, which will help you in the Mains because, as we all know, the difficulty level of optional is higher than the Bachelor level but lower than the Master's level, so it will benefit you greatly. However, because you will only be studying two subjects in your bachelor's programme, you will have to study the third subject on your own. Thus, you should pursue a BA General course. However, as everyone knows, UPSC is all about extreme hard work, luck, proper planning, guidance, and several other factors. Make your own decision and put in your best effort.Read more

Ques. Is selective IGNOU BA and MA political science sufficient for political science optional in UPSC?

● Top Answer By Prithviraj Debbarma on 21 Oct 22

Ans. One of my sister's acquaintances wrote 2016 mains with PSIR optional. She had been working in an IT firm till a month before prelims and had been preparing for a year before.  Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) is quite fast. The study material provided by IGNOU is good for selective reading for specific topics like Justice, Equality, MN Roy, Sri Aurobindo, Theory of international relations etc. But she had an engineering background and revealed that the notes were not of premium quality. Paper 1- Part A Gauba is not bad. But you will need to read the book more than one time to interpret it completely. The information has been divided unevenly within the chapters making it a difficult read. One more good source is Shubra Ranjan's notes. They summarise the points in the UPSC syllabus format. Paper 1- Part B Complete Laxmikant.Read the interpretations given by famous analysts, their viewpoints, case laws and their history and the politics that played behind the evolution of laws and how and why the judiciary evolved. Again for this look into Shubra Ranjan notes. For the remaining topics look into Oxford publications. Paper 2- part A For this part, the best recommendation is Heywood’s global politics. It’s easy to understand and very well written. Combine this with IGNOU notes and you will get good results. You can also go through questions given in Baylis and Smith because sometimes they appear verbatim and quoting the exact same viewpoint can get you some extra points. Paper 2 - Part B Conduct internet research and make your own notes on the topics included in the syllabus. Then go through commentaries on IDSA /IPCS websites. This will give you a better understanding of and current status of relations. Once you are done with all the study materials, focus on developing the vocabulary for PSIR. Make sure your answers are evenly distributed with theories, quotes, facts, years etc. Practice writing answers a lot. Read more

Ques. Which college of DU is better for political science hons: Dyal Singh College or Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College?

● Top Answer By Akriti Banerjee on 15 May 23

Ans. My knowledge is limited to the individual institutes and not their political science departments. In my opinion, Dayal Singh is a better choice than ARSD. here are a few reasons that justify my opinion Dyal Singh College has better infrastructure, a great location, and easy access to the metro station. Whereas. The metro line is still under construction near ARSD College. Both colleges are listed among the top 10 colleges in India.  The crowd quality is similar in both the colleges with Dyal Singh giving a slight edge to ARSD.  Dyal Singh has excellent amenities with a basketball court and spacious ground. Dyal Singh houses a massive library with more than 58,000 books on different disciplines, ranging from rare to the latest. It has a fully air-conditioned reading room with computers Dyal Singh has the facility of UGC-INFLIBNET through which the students can also access e-journals. All these points strongly claim that Dyal Singh is a better choice than ARSD unless you chose ASRD because of personal preferences.Read more

Ques. Which one is better for B.A (Hons.) in political science: Hindu College, University of Delhi, or St. Xavier's Kolkata?

● Top Answer By Arnav Roy on 24 Jul 23

Ans. While my brother was preparing a list of top colleges offering Political Hons, he never came across St. Xavier’s Kolkata while Delhi University and Hindu College specifically topped his list. This in itself proves Hindu College to be better than St. Xavier’s. Additionally, most of the teachers and seniors advised him to choose Hindu.  He was lucky enough to clear the cutoff and join the college. To date, he has no regrets about his decision. The best part of the institute is its superior location in Delhi. The crowd this college welcomes is another reason he was inclined towards it. The seniors are very cooperative and ragging is not tolerated.  The faculty pool comprises professors from top national and international universities. Most of the students pursuing political science either target Civil services or are inclined toward international relations and other political issues. While many may find flaws here because it’s a government college, trust me in the long run it’s your efforts and talents that matter. A college can only provide for you; it is you who has to make the most out of it.Read more

Ques. How better is Shyam Lal College evening for a B.A. Hons in political science?

● Top Answer By Priya Sen, on 03 Nov 21

Ans. One of my friends studied at Shyam Lal College (SLC) Evening. Let me share his views about the college which might give you some information. The overall performance of the faculty is average. Ad-hoc teachers only take regular classes.  The student crowd is not good. Students who are focused on their career are less, therefore have no sense of enthusiasm or competition. The library is not good. Lots of study materials are unavailable. Due to careless teaching and less dedication in studies, the students during the internals are bound to get low scores. No extracurricular activities take place. Societies are for namesake. They exist only on papers. It is suggested that you opt for other colleges because if you are very ambitious, you might get disheartened studying here.Read more
