Fees at my time was around 8K rupees per month. Registration fees, admission fees etc was negligible and process was clear and short. BA courses with no specialization had a lesser fee structure. These were the fee structure while taking the admission in 2019.

Campus Life:

Social aspect was good on some campus, not that great at others. It depends heavily on the campus structure as well. Campus with common areas and green spaces, encouraged a better social life, participation in different clubs was encouraged.

Lashkara is the main fest of our college which happens in Feb-March, singers are mostly punjabi as it is a Sikh minority college, the event is really good and is much exciting. There are around 30 societies in the college which are skill based, which try to enhance your skills, and these societies are run by students under the guidance of a teacher as convenor. There are many sports and extra curricular activities as well. Many sports events and tournaments are held every year.

For the year 2024, I have paid 24180/- as my annual fees which is higher than last year since DU has increased the fees structure, my college also provides scholarships on the basis of economic conditions of the students (my friend got a concession of around 7000-8000 last year). This is the total fees, there are no other charges except the DU examination fees (which is given each semester).

The history department is made up of two batches. History Regular ( Theory ) and History Vocational Archeology and Museology. Regular students come under aided, therefore they have to pay only a certain amount of money that wouldn't exceed 20,000. The Vocational students have to pay 42,000 for the first semester during enrollment since it is a vocational course and it comes under the management. The fees are paid semester wise. For each semester the amount varies. For example I had to pay 15,000 in the second semester and 35,000 for the third semester.

Campus Life:

There are several clubs like theatre no 59 for people interested in drama, Inkwell for people who are keen in writing. Srucb society and wild life conservation clubs takes care of the college floral and fauna along with NSS and NCC. Each department has their own cultural event along with inter and intra sports day. Every year college auditions would be conducted for selecting the team to represent college for each event.

Campus Life:

The overall experience was average. The best part were the academics and societies focusing on the curriculum and different extra curriculars to choose from. The library was accessible at all times with an easy to use library card. The canteen had options from snacks to healthy meals for students and we had a mother dairy parlour and nescafe. The annual festivals and others festivities were not focused on much. They were held and organised very poorly. This was the most uninteresting part of my college life. As for infrastructure, there was lack of space for students to hangout and the classroom availability was scarce with faulty benches and fans.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions:

The annual fees for my college was 8000 rs. for BA programme in University of Delhi. The fees varied through different colleges. The registeration fees for per subject was 100 rs. to attend the exams for few courses. The Semester examination fees was 100 rs. for each theoretical subject and 150 rs. for practical subject exams. Different colleges provide fee concession based on your yearly performance and financial difficulties through a letter request.

At the time of registration portal through NCWEB I paid ?100/- in which you have to registered at the site for your confirmation of addmission and have to fill a form. So I registered myself at the portal in August 2022. After that the NCWEB board issue cut-off list in 5-6 phases for various colleges. I got addmission in 1st cutoff list in Miranda house because I secured excellent marks in 12th standard and also I belonged SC category. After that the process begin I fill the main form regarding my subjects(that I want to study in graduation) and pay the amount of ?3365/- as course fee. Now from the 1st semester to till all semesters I have to pay ?1410/- per semester as examination form fee. Apart from that there is a separate fee criteria for whole year that I paid ?3702/- in 2nd year. A nominal amount of ?325/- I paid for college management expenses via online portal. There is no requirement of tution so I studied by myself. There is no difference between fee structure for the students belonged to the reserved categories because when I asked for the fee concession in college, they said no. Also there is no any scholarship or financial aid available for us.So the fee structure is same for all. Thankyou

Course Curriculum Overview:

The exam curriculum is easy to understand. Students have to choose 2 major subject which they will study till the graduation in each semester. I chose History and political as my major subject. Also we have to choose a minor from the above two subjects so I chose History as my minor subject. There are skill and practical based subjects that we have to study are Skill enhancement course and second is Value addition course . We can chose the different subjects regarding these courses. I think there is a need to shorten the syllabus or reduce the number of subjects in the curriculum because It's hard for students to cover 6 or 7 subjects during the exam times. We didn't get any study material regarding our syllabus so we have to search by ourselves for the same. Also there are difficieny of faculties in my college as sometimes a teacher had to teach 2 or 3 subjects which they even didn't know. Teachers are regular so they teach as per the given schedule. Our exams held in the evening shift from 2:30pm to 5:00 pm. I am comfortable with the timings because it's give me sufficient time to revise the syllabus.

Some publish houses and private research scholars on history gave us internships. Also some content writing opportunities were available to students of our college from ed-tech sites. The fees structure may vary accordingly the course you opt for further studies . There are some scholarships provided accounting to the university such as for the students in extra curricular or sports or any quota except SC ST OBC quota the students are given more preference for college adoption

The faculty -to-student ratio again varies from department to department. Well in our history department we have a great faculty, since our tic is leaving and with few professors doing transfer, can't say about it now . Though our classes has been regular , with the same faculty. Our TIC has been my favourite faculty she gave such strong sense of empowerment, looking at her one could say yes this is what a professor should look like or teach like....well there was no faculty to hate , we may complain about this or that though but they took their profession very seriously. There are two exams in an yearly ( 2 semester= 1 year ) happening in months of dec-jan & may-jun . If you have studied even few weeks before exam and went to class regularly you could easily ace the exams. There weren't many students you failed , you can count them on one hand , and they were only who didn't came to college regularly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well even with courses being regular, one need to work on their own , cause professors give us hints we follow. The way they make us write an answer is very great for research works though they never really explained how to do that in detail. It would have been better if they could help us from ground level instead of treating us an research student who according to them knows everything. Well vac sec are a break from the main and ge papers but when you have to do all the assignments together it's a headache.

I pay around? 13250 as a total fees for my course ,it increases on a yearly basis around 10 to 20% it is the overall fees including tution fee, lab fee, development fee, admission fee, etc.I belong from general category and fees is less for economic challenged students in my college and is relatively 10 to 20 perscent also less for other category students belonging to SC and OBC category. There are few scholarships for some economic challenged students having overall family income less than 5 lakhs ,but they have to score good cgpa to avail this scholarship.

Faculty:

Our college faculty is good , maximum teachers are highly expienced and knowledgeable . Student teacher ratio is also good ,it is 1teacher :15 students ratio in general . Our faculty is always available for students try to solve students problem. My favorite faculty is my geography teacher Miss Padma Maam , she solves all our queries , And I dont like the approach of my history teacher regarding teaching students, she just dictate the notes in the class

The yearly fees which is paid during admission itself is 18015. However it may vary from courses which I'm not sure about The tuition fees is a very affordable one and is quite reasonable according to the course that's offered Moreover I am not sure about the reserved categories admission fees but it's lower than general. In addition the students can apply to various scholarships which ranges from 10k to 25k

Faculty:

The faculty members of my college are very cooperative and educated. They are very enthusiastic about education and tries to provide the best to the students. Moreover the faculty to student ratio is also good DU has a final end sem exam which is of moderate level for average students. If you're dedicated towards your studies they would be easy for you. Ultimately it depends on the student

Ques. What are the criteria for getting into Presidency University, Kolkata, in History (Hons.)?

● Top Answer By Abhilash Roy on 23 Jun 21

Ans. If Presidency University Kolkata is your dream college then you must have a solid academic record. Your board exam marks matter a lot. But entrance exam scores will be highly emphasized. You will be asked about the recent developments in the field along with the questions related to class 11th and 12th. Go through R.G Collingwood, Ideas of history, and Glean information from graduate-level books like R.S Sharma, Sumit Sarkar, and Shekar Banerjee. Having knowledge of post-modern theories like subaltern, queer theory, and genocide concepts will come in handy. Be up-to-date with all these concepts. Another key factor here is your English language skills. You are supposed to write the paper in English. Be careful of what you write and try to make it as thoughtful and transparent as possible. Try to be on point and avoid making convoluted sentences. If you check all the above-mentioned factors, it's almost certain that you will get into Presidency University Kolkata.Read more

Ques. Which college should I choose for History (hons) Dyal Singh College or Delhi College of Arts and Commerce?

● Top Answer By Swati Arora, on 25 Nov 21

Ans. It is suggested that you go for Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC) rather than Dyal Singh College (DSC). Here are some reasons why: If you want a college with better infrastructure and canteen opt for DSC.  On the other hand DCAC provides excellent Extra-curricular activities, societies, clubs, placements and overall exposure. The faculty of both the colleges are good. DSC is better in B.A subjects but not economics. DCAC has better connectivity. It is near to metro stations on the yellow line and pink line. Whereas DSC is only close to JLN stadium metro station on the violet line. Neither of the two colleges offer hostel facilities.  But it is easier to find accommodation near DCAC than to DSC. Accommodation near DCAC is also affordable. Therefore overall DCAC is a much better choice. But in the end it depends on individual preference. Try visiting both the colleges, explore, talk to the alumni or faculty members, if possible and then take the decision.Read more

Ques. How much percentage do I need to acquire to get an admission in Lady Brabourne College or Bethune College in Kolkata for History honours?

● Top Answer By Adrita Bose on 28 Dec 21

Ans. It will depend on the cut-off marks as set up by the college. It differs from year to year. If you score above 85 your chances of getting selected in the first round will be easier.  Later it will gradually drop down to 75-80. This will also vary among students of reserved and unreserved categories. Students belonging to reserved categories might require a lower score like 70-75, which can drop down to 60-65, depending on the course and the college’s set cut off.Read more
