I am from a commerce background so I opted for BCom llb. Law teachers are great and very good in their command. Exams are held in December and May in between MSTs and presentations. Moot court competitions and various other competitions are held in the department which is a great way to enhance knowledge.
The career development cell of UILS deals with placement offers and internships. The aim of the career development cell of the university has always been to provide a conducive environment for the all-round professional growth of students by providing them with the best internship opportunities, skill development sessions and placement opportunities with consultancy firms, renowned law firms and litigation chambers based in Delhi and Chandigarh. In the year 2020, CDC was successful in securing internships at tier-2 law firms and assistantships under the professors from prestigious institutions like Oxford, Cambridge, City University of Hong Kong and Jindal Global University. But many people believe that the placement cell is not very active here. Most of the students in UILS prefers for litigation and for civil services, rather than opting for different firms. The college is very clear on its agendas and does not fool the students but still some students doubt it. Don't know why?
Often it is seen that making a decision while selecting an appropriate college is a difficult choice. A college is judged on various parameters such as infrastructure, faculty, placements, exposure to the industry, fees structure, etc. The institute is good as it has a reasonable fee structure, exposure in terms of the internships, moots, MUNs, etc. organised here from time to time. That's why I opted for UILS. The teachers are well-qualified and provide good knowledge to the students. Except for a few teachers, all teachers are good. The curriculum gives a really good insight and knowledge. Exams are held twice a year as each year comprises two semesters and the exams are easy.
From 9th semester students are eligible for campus placements as such companies do not come very often but on your CV a government University like PU provides a serious advantage over other private colleges as heard from seniors lowest package is 4 lakhs and highest is 10 lakhs there is no fixed percentage of students getting placements are most of them who get apply privately to law firms my plan is to go in corporate law in an mnc firm.
I chose for law i.e., B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) 5 Years Integrated Course in Panjab University. This department is named as University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) at Panjab University. The faculty members are super friendly, especially with the newcomers. They try to resolve every issue faced by students at their level. The average teacher student ratio is 1:60 as there are 360 seats for candidates applying for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and they are divided into two main streams, separate for Arts and Commerce students, then again got divided into sections. The medium of teaching is English. The term exams are held after every 5-6 months of period and are really not that hard but you have to struggle for good markings, obviously.
Students become eligible for placement after the 8th semester. A lot of law firms visit here to hire the students at a good package. About 70% of the students get hired every year. My plans are to give the civil services exams after my degree.
The course is designed keeping bar council of India recommendations. It is divided into 10 semesters and usually one sem if of six months. I was interested in the law from the beginning, I founded law as a basis of life and I had a deep fascination with law. The faculty is highly trained and most of the associate professors have 20-25 years of experience in their hands and the student-professor ratio is good we have 6 sem each for one subject and they are helpful towards students. The majority of faculty are Ph.D. holders and have brilliant teaching starting from zero levels which are understandable to all. They emphasize more on practical learning rather than on theory. The terms year exams were as per the university schedule and they were not difficult to pass for one who has covered basics.
I chose this course because Panjab University is a highly prestigious university and it is one of the top universities of India. In every batch of B.A LLB (Hons) there are 180 students. Faculty members in our Department are good. They provide holistic development and are always available. Most of them are qualified PhD and provide knowledge of concepts and motivates to explore more. Mostly they teach on the projector and provides practical knowledge. There are many female faculty members.
Vast Career opportunities, good faculty, the kind of environment you are exposed to and the opportunities you get, Also, the number of competitions organised.Focus not only on academics but holistic development
Its major postive point is that it is a part of the traditional University i.e. Panjab University, and it exposes the students to other departments of studies, it also a huge library that enhances the researching skills of a student, and the overall environment of the whole campus is quite academic as well as cultural, so it develops the personality bof students in every way.
