Remarks :
I applied for B.A.LL.B (Hons.) in Panjab University as well as in other colleges too like Banaras Hindu University, Kurukshetra University. Due to the Corona pandemic, the University did not take the entrance test last year (2020) and the admission process was done on the basis of merit list i.e., marks obtained in the 12th Class. I also got shortlisted for admission to Kurukshetra University but as per the report of 2019, Panjab University has been ranked in the range of #801-1000 in QS World University Rankings. Hence, I chose Panjab University. Moreover, as per the reports, 1.4% of students completing three-year undergraduate courses at Panjab University were able to find employment through campus placement in 2018-2019. The figure stood at 20.7% for those who completed two-year postgraduate courses.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I chose for law i.e., B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) 5 Years Integrated Course in Panjab University. This department is named as University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) at Panjab University. The faculty members are super friendly, especially with the newcomers. They try to resolve every issue faced by students at their level. The average teacher student ratio is 1:60 as there are 360 seats for candidates applying for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) and they are divided into two main streams, separate for Arts and Commerce students, then again got divided into sections. The medium of teaching is English. The term exams are held after every 5-6 months of period and are really not that hard but you have to struggle for good markings, obviously.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees structure is basically the same for years, it doesn't change every year and currently, it's 1,00,000 INR approximately for B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) excluding the Hostel charges. If we talk about the value of money, I can rate it 3/5. The University also provides a Library facility, so it's okay! The University also provides scholarships for economically weaker sections and for those affected in riots. The fees structure for Scheduled Castes and Tribes is way too less as compared to the General Category students. Scholarships are also provided for students getting really good grades.
Campus Life :
The campus environment is really good. Students and teachers are very supportive and interactive. Fests are organised from time to time as for now Akhada is to be organised in September/ October. Library is one of my favourite places as it has uncountable books with a silent environment, an excellent place to study. A number of clubs are organised for students, by students like MCS and anti-ranging clubs. It organise a number of events like annual sports fest, cultural events, etc.
Other Applied Colleges
Army Institute of Law, Mohali | B.A.LL.B. (Hons.)
Because it's annual fee is more than Panjab University
