COEP Pune is a reputed technological institute and offers decent academics and placement opportunities to the students. As far as teaching goes, you can expect to have 50-50 experience. Some of the faculties are excellent and have in-depth knowledge about their subjects, while others are not so much. COEP has a good infrastructure. The departmental labs are well-equipped.
The institute has a good placement record. The highlights of recent COEP placements show the median CTC to be around INR 5 LPA. VISA, eBay, Barclays, Oracle, etc. are among the major recruiters to visit the campus placement.
COEP’s Techfest - Mindspark is the largest techfest in Maharashtra after IITB’s techfest.
This college is one of the best engineering colleges in Maharashtra but not good enough to be one of the best in the country. As far as the college is concerned, it is the 3rd oldest college in Asia and its buildings reflect that. However, on the inside, they are very well redesigned and well equipped.
Overall, the campus has an area of 36 acres which is obviously smaller than other IITs and NITs that have 100-acre campuses. The college definitely has its own hostel but it is not big enough to house all students.
Being autonomous, it definitely updates its curriculum regularly with industry requirements and has also won quite a few accolades for the same. As far as the crowd is concerned, you will see that most of the students are Maharashtrians coming from different parts of the state but it is a healthy mix of athletes, studious individuals, and people with different talents.

If you are keen on joining clubs, there are many like Robotics, Satellite, Drama, Writing and Radio. These are mainly spearheaded by students and you can join any of them based on your interest. There are also a number of fests like Tech fests, Sports fests, and other cultural festivals and all of them are quite popular.
Labs are also fully functional and will usually cater to all your needs. Most instruments are functional, but you might find one or two that are bumpy here and there. The college has recruiting companies like HSBC, Qouvantis, and Mahindra to visit the college. However, with COVID 19, the situation might be a little different.
While BVP is not in the top engineering colleges of India, it is decent enough for the opportunities it offers. You can apply here if you are looking to do so.
The College of Engineering Pune is among the best institutes in Pune. The architecture dates back to 1854. The campus was planned by British-American architect and planner Christopher Charles Benninger. The architecture is such that you will feel like you are in Hogwarts, especially in the main building on the south campus.

Campus Life-
Student Activities- VNIT excels in expectations than COEP & VJTI with myriad festivals, clubs, and extra-curricular.
Research after Bachelors’- Lots of VNIT students get themselves into research work after their graduation. However, there is no available information for VJTI and COEP.
Considering all the aspects listed above, VNIT seems a better choice for mechanical engineering than COEP Pune and VJTI Mumbai.
Among the aforementioned institutes, NSUT, DTU, and IIIT Delhi are tier-1 Engineering colleges while COEP, RVCE, and BMS are Tier-2 colleges. Here is a general comparison between the two groups of people institutes
First Group
Second group
Hope the comparison was clear and will help you in making your decision.
DTU should be your priority. It is one of the oldest Indian Engineering institutions. It has a brand name and a good reputation. It has better placements, campus, college life, location, etc. than COEP. Only NIT Trichy and NIT Warangal are on par with DTU. Mechanical is a renowned branch at DTU. The Mechanical department has many innovations to its credit. For example, the first Biodiesel Lab in India.
I know someone who did his B.Tech Mechanical from COEP. He chose COEP over a top NIT. According to him, it was not a wise decision for his career. Teaching is done mostly in Marathi at COEP. Some of the faculty members are underqualified and not up to the mark. This made him lose interest in learning and resulted in poor personality development.
At NITs, you study with people from across India and this offers exposure to different cultures. The NIT brand also has its added advantages. NITs have a standard grading system known in the industry. When you graduate from COEP and go to, say IIMs, the grading system at COEP causes a lot of hassle. COEP does not offer cross-culture exposure. Though the labs at COEP are big, the equipment is outdated and non-functional.
A benefit is that COEP is located in Pune which is an automotive hub. Therefore, Mechanical students get to connect with the automotive industry. Pune automotive industry has a large number of COEP alumni. All this allows you to do a lot of live industry projects while on campus.
Overall, choose DTU and if you do not get admission into it, go for lower NITs.
College of Engineering, Pune provides various disciplines under B.Tech. The total seat for B.Tech at COEP is 630. The candidates with the required cutoff in MHT-CET are eligible for admission in the program. The cutoff for admission tothe COEP courses varies. Thecandidates are shortlistedfor admission based on their academic performance.
Minimum Educational Qualification
10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English witha minimum of 55% marks in aggregate from a recognized board. For the reserved category, the aggregate is 50%.

For future reference, you should keep the print out of the application form and fee receipt.
Here are some things you should consider while making a choice-
COEP does not stand at par with the other two colleges. You’ll have to choose between NITK and VNIT Nagpur. You must choose between the two based on the branch of your interest.
Both NIT Kurukshetra and COEP are good colleges. As a student of COEP Pune, I can tell you about my college in detail-
Weaknesses-
Strengths-
brands like Amazon USA, Google, Facebook, Tesla Motors, etc.
Thus, COEP is a good college. According to me, after your graduation from either of these, you should go for a PG.
COEP is better among these. It is one of the oldest and most well-reputed technological institutes in the country. COEP placements are excellent. The median CTC for the institute is around INR 5 LPA. During the recent placement, students received the highest CTC of around INR 7.1 LPA.
COEP fees are more affordable. The course fee for a B.Tech is around INR 1.62 Lakhs. So, the ROI is good.
