Well, placement wise since past 3 years the I.T. batch had got the highest packages. Apart from that I.T. doesn't just mainly focuses of coding but also what goes around it. The hardware, software etc. and many more. It also includes the marketing aspect of it also. In today's world companies just don't want pure coding but also the overall package. So I definitely think that I.T. provides that overall comprehensiveness along with coding and everything. While commending the good aspects I would also like to point out that if the teachers can be a bit more thorough with the topics and not brush it off quickly just to finish the syllabus would be nice.

The course curriculum is well designed to grab job opportunities according to the running requirements. The level of exam is moderate all the questions are from the notes which professors taught in the class. The course curriculum should be little bit improve according to the need of the students and industry requirement rather than stick to the old school ideology

Course curriculum is well structured for the students in such a way that students can't feel burden in any semester. They even schedule the classes of Quants, Logical Reasoning, Verabal Ability and Data Interpretation in every semester.

as i am always want to go to the it field, so it is my preferable course to make my carrier. the number of faculty member and the students are quite good. but we face some serious Deficulty in our coding class. as the number of teacher are not so good. every teacher are qualified p.hd in various university like iit kgp, and other foreign university like Oxford. there are 3 exam in a semester 2 mid sem and one end sem and the end sem is the semester exam. yes it's difficult to pass if someone don't read properly.

My reason for choosing IT was that it had a good placement record, on par with its CSE branch. Course curriculum was okay even the faculty helped at times . Student ratio was also okay. Exams were conducted on time.

I want to choose computer science and engineering but my rank was 2213 that's why I couldn't get it even after 3 rounds. I got information technology. The class size is 150. The ratio of boys and girls is 5ratio 3.

I like Computer Science but got Information technology it's almost the same nothing different even the same subjects throughout 4 years, all faculty were helpful except HODs, all teachers are qualified and able to teach students, there were 2 mid-semester and on final sem exams and it was easy to get a pass with 5-6 days of revision of courses.
Due to the craze of cse and IT, I am pursuing this branch. personally, I suggest if you are not from a very renowned college then try to grab the main branch like cse, it, ece. The faculty is very supportive and qualified. The exam is conducted on time as one sem of 6 months consists of two small exams + one final exam. difficult level is not so high if you study honestly. definitely you will get a good score. even study 1-2 weeks before the exam.
You would be under great faculties after the 2nd year of your college under the IT department. If you interact with your teachers well, I assure you that they will look after you and make you overcome your weaknesses. They are more enthusiastic about improving the students through various brainstorming sessions within the course.
Yes, you can get IEM Kolkata with a rank of 6k. In 2021, the closing cutoff for the IT branch was 2483-8457.
IEM Kolkata is an average college. The academics and facilities offered aren’t good for IT. Alumni of the institute who are well-established in the IT sector received the opportunities based on their talent and expertise. If you have other better options, you should choose them over IEM.
As per the recent placement highlights, IEM Kolkata average CTC was INR 5-6 LPA. While the highest CTC offered to the student of this branch was INR 42 LPA.
IEM Kolkata IT will be comparably better. Although IEM has pretty strict rules in place, it offers better opportunities in terms of academics and placements. According to the stats of recent IEM placements, each year around 90% of students get placed each year from IT. The highest CTC for the branch is INR 40 LPA.
Heritage Institute of Technology is a good option, if you want to pursue research or MS, further.
Here is some information to assist you in choice-making-
Snapdeal, Amazon, Google, etc. visit IIEST Shibpur and offer equal placement opportunities to both IT and CSE students. My roommate from IT got into Snapdeal through campus placement.
IEM isn’t a well-known college. It is a local college unlike IIEST, which is an institute of national importance. The campus size of IEM is very small. Big companies don’t usually visit small colleges like IEM.
The college tag has a value of its own. Besides, the opportunities and exposure offered by IIEST are immense.
Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at IIEST Shibpur.
In terms of college, IEM and HIT both provide similar career opportunities in the IT sector. Major recruiters like TCS, Infosys, CTS, Capgemini from the IT sector visit both the institutes.
If you had to pick between the two engineering fields, you should always go with CS. If you select CS, you will be able to apply for a variety of government/public sector positions (ISRO, BARC, IOCL) after completing your B.tech. Only CS guys are qualified to apply for the majority of these government jobs.
Parameters | IEM | Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata |
Tuition fees (B.Tech) | 5.88 lakhs | 3.93 lakhs |
Average CTC | INR 5-6 LPA | INR 3.75 LPA |
Highest CTC | 72 LPA | 16 LPA |
As you will get similar opportunities you can choose either. Also, outside of WB, no one cares if you're from IEM or HIT. Unless you're from JU, everything is the same.
