Columbia University Placements: Industries, Average Salaries, Top Recruiters & FAQs

Placement:

You can work as a TA or reader with classes and get paid USD 5000-7000 for these positions. Foreign students are only allowed campus jobs and cannot work off campus. Max work hours allowed are 20 hours a week. Positions are quite competitive. Indian students are only allowed to work campus jobs and they must apply through campus recruiting. Pay ranges from 15-25 dollars an hour. 80-90% of graduates find employment after graduation. Average salary ranges from 70k USD to 150k USD depending on how many years of experience you are coming in with. There are a lot of campus recruiting events where all major consulting finance and energy companies come to recruit. The most frequent way of getting jobs after is through recommendations or referrals from friends and faculty .

I applied to 4 colleges in total before I finally got into Columbia University: 2 accepted - Columbia and LSE. 2 rejected - Oxford and Cambridge Columbia stands out for its excellent location and institutional networks with banking and policy sectors in New York and Washington D.C. I intended to find work in NYC after graduation and that was the main reason why I chose Columbia. My intake was in August 2022. The admission process took 3 months from the time of application (February 2022) to the time of decision (May 2022). The admission process required a policy essay and personal statement, a copy of transcripts, and recommendations from professors and colleagues. GRE is optional. Overall admission process was straightforward and smooth.

Placement:

Goldman Sachs and the average median package is $104000 per year the median salary is $90000 per year. Tips to find a job after degree is networking, leverage my professional network including professors peers and alumni. Famous alumni is Langston Hughes ( poet and playwright).

The admission process is based on the application submission first, students submit their application through the common app or coalition app, typically by the January 1st deadline for regular decision. I prepared for the admission, maintaining a high GPA, especially in challenging courses like AP or IB and taking the SAT or ACT. Consultants are Crimson Education.

Placement:

We don’t have placements but we have fieldwork opportunity in the second year which builds after base. Moreover numerous research labs are there to gain experience and the career service is helpful with fairs, networking and building resume

I didn’t get on campus accommodation but that’s pretty good otherwise looking for houses is difficult. Average rent is $1400 per person.

Placement:

Several technology based companies typically recruit from Columbia. However, there are still Consulting, Finance and Product Management companies coming to recruit. Most students received an internship and job offer.

Internship:

I interned at Kearney in Chicago, and was paid ~$14K for a 10 week internship. I had to go through a few rounds of interview to receive the offer.

Placement:

Apple, Google and Amazon are campus partners. There are various startups which attend the career fairs. Placement process happens through career fairs where students are expected to submit their resumes.

Placements are really good. All big four, FAANG, top consulting firms and others are interested in this program's graduates.

My experience at Columbia university has been exceptional so far. Its truly one of the best Ivy League universities in the world. Everything from academics, to faculty to extra curricular activities has been top - notch and worth every penny.

Placement:

Pretty good. Most students get placed, however, high amount of individual effort is required to secure a job/internship. Salary is usually upward of $70k a year.

Placement:

Post-study placement opportunities are decent but students will have to put in the effort themselves to find good jobs. One cannot only rely on career placement officers for finding employment opportunities.
